Yamaha SU700 SCSI Modern Storage Upgrade

A brief overview of how I've upgraded my Yamaha SU-700 with a modern storage solution.
I've tried BlueSCSI, SCSI2SD and ZuluSCSI. All of these are working but I prefer BlueSCSI because it's smaller and doesn't require removing the FDD which slows down the boot time,
If you do go with ZuluSCSI, the process to setup is exactly the same as BlueSCSI except the files are named "HD0" where 0 is the SCSI ID.
Something I missed in the video is that any text in the filename after either HD0 or HD00_512 is ignored so you are able to label your disks if you need to.

Did you ever find the cause of the freezing - Hang ups? mine seems to do it only with a 16gb card inserted. 2gb card it runs smooth!

I have the SCI2SD V5 connected externally with an adaptor, I haven't used any utility, I just inserted a micro SD card, formatted it with the SU700 and it works, am I missing something by not imaging it first?

SCSI2SD works differently to BlueSCSI and ZuluSCSI. It uses a proprietary system to store the data. To set the size and number of virtual disks you need to plug it in to a computer via the micro USB port and download the setup tool. It will work if you just plug in and format, but you likely won't have multiple SCSI IDs available.

Thanks for this video, If I understand correctly, once installed the BlueSCSI, you have to open your SU700 to change the SD card? Hence the interest of loading it with sounds in advance.

Not quite. The SU700 formats SCSI drives in a proprietary format so you can't load samples onto an SD card. It's not really the sampler of choice for loading up an SD, that's more the SP404's territory.

@@jfphotoandlife8287 I agree. Effects on the SU700 are much better and the variable bit/sample rate gives heaps of different flavours for sampling. Just not the weapon of choice for loading samples on an SD with PC for playback. The magic happens from sampling into the unit.
