Nice looking Yamaha. I knew a guy that had a TT500 street licensed. It was a wheelie machine! I started wearing shin protection below my knee guards when not wearing full-on MX boots. Jagged, sharp steel footpegs can be mean.

Very nice .. the 250 4 stroke have come along way since the 1980s

I had a really tidy one of those in about 1983 , I mainly rode it on the street, it was lively power wise , the low seat height made it really manageable, off road especially, and yet still had decent wheel travel, my muffler got damaged and eventually came off and the exhaust note was outrageously loud , and I loved it ,but Im sure not everyone felt that love. Unfortunately the good times came to an end when I was hill climbing it on a gravel hill and the chain got tossed and bunched up at the front sprocket and it cracked the engine case. I'm pretty sure I could fix that now , but not then .A top local motocross racer where I lived actually raced one successfully for a while.

Ride safe Nice boots man ,, On helmets lol I remember riding w. no helmet and Op shorts on and tank and lil dog ran out of a yard under my front wheel and yanked the bike out from underneath me , I jumped up off the bike and didn't hit the ground . Nice boots man and take care of that leg !

Decals never lasted because the plastic fuel tank always leach over time and also discolour. My first bike was an XT250 I bought off my Dad that he bought the year I was born, later traded it on a TT250. Great bike also, it had a YZ250 swingarm which was a common mod. Jeez I went some places on it before trading on a 94 TT-R250 once I left school and made some money.

Nice bike lol, I had a friend who had one , he rode it 15 miles in 28 degree weather to were we lived in the dark , with no gloves, lol he come in the house tripping hollering saying I can't feel my fingers, he put his hands in hot water for awhile, we were young drinking, man he caught hell we were laughing so hard he got pissed, his fingers finally thawed a hour later lol..funny shit , good memories nice bike! 🇺🇲

Just thinking about it , that bike is either a 1980 model, or a 1981 model with 1980 tank decals . The 1981 decals are a different font of "TT" and have stripes underneath.

I worked on the road going versions and found them to be nice bikes with good reliability. However, the oil filter housing is rather vulnerable to drop damage, so I would buy or fabricate a protective bar or shield. I fabricated an aluminium plate with a silicone pad on the inner face next to the oil filter housing. Subsequently, I saw damage to the plate which would have destroyed the oil filter housing! What an absolutely gorgeous bike that is, its the nearest thing to the recent 1980's bikes new in the crate videos.

How much is different between the TT250 and the XT250 mechanically?

That bike didn't look that good in the 80s! I luv the look now! Look at the sprocket on the back..no wander it has some tork!

My first bike was an RT-100. That damn shifter was the worst. Next to the duel rear shocks! I had a buddy who own one of those TT's and 2 MS 175'S they were tanks in the woods unfortunately he lost them all along with a few other bikes in a fire. 😢 But love Kaplan ❤️ love these videos! Long live the Dinosaurs!
