I appreciate the videos, but the most valuable information (to me anyway) was the fact the bearing retainer was left-handed thread but thank you for all the videos I learned a little bit in each one of them. I did mine just a little different, but its finished now and all ready to go! NOTE: I would have torn the retainer all to hell and probably would've busted the housing itself if I hadn't watched the videos. So, thanks again.
Hi, so it seems I am having exactly the same problem with my VStar 650 Classic. My shaft gear oil went missing, leaving nasty streaks on the tire. I took the gear apart to the point where I can peek into the shaft bearing and it looks like some of the balls in there are missing. There is also a lot of metal in the oil residue. Did you ever finish this project or couldn't you get the parts? I am missing the video that calls closure. I could imagine that it is not easy to put the bearing on and that other piece you had to destroy to remove it. Please let me know.
So I just started this project with a buddy of mine we got the reverse thread collar out but what did u use to get the actually bearing and shaft out of the differential I can’t get anything in from the gear side to punch it out is there a specific puller you used?
Hey boss. Great video first of all! Got a question. How do you remove the collar and bearing off the shaft? I ordered a new bearing but the old one will not come off. And how do you re-seat the new bearing and collar?
I believe I cut a piece of copper tubing and put it over th cooler and placed it in a vice as to not mess up the collar. Then tap the shaft w a brass hammer and the a drift to knock it through the bearing and collar. Installing is the bearing should go on and then use a socket to tap the collar back onto the shaft. Hope this helped.
I used a real thin screwdriver and went around the circumference and worked it slowly and it comes up out of the case, just be careful and go slow as you dont want to mar it up.
@@diyschoolofhardknocks2943 man it's easier than I'd of thought, but you are the only one with vids on it. I'd suggest doing a complete breakdown video on it.
That piece you said you needed new bearing I need that whole peice like with the gear on one end and the spline on the other. Where did you find your peice and do you know where I could find mine
Wet oil around the tread of the tire. I cleaned it, and it smelled like gear oil. Took it for anther spin and more oil on sidewalls. I checked the oil and it was Grey metalic looking ...cheers
@@diyschoolofhardknocks2943 Sounds good thanks, just trying to get an idea of how my old bearing is. Theres no linear play, just a tiny bit of lateral play. I have an 1100 which uses an 85ft-lb nut to retain the collar, and requires a specialty tool to prevent the shaft from spinning during removal. The tool itself is $300 😫.
Hi, my vstar is leaking differential oil, I've changed the semiring and the oring, it stopped for awhile but the started leaking again. It was really bad before, I mean a tire coated of oil type bad, now its just like its sweating a bit of oil. But anyway, i'm looking for a fix, tried everything to this point and no permanent fix, any sugestions will help alot. Thanks and sorry for my bad writing, 3 am here.
No problem...the o ring is most likely not the problem there is a seal inward that is similar to a transmission seal that holds back the gear oil. most likely the seal is worn out...easy to change hope this helps.
@@diyschoolofhardknocks2943 hey there, quit quesiton, how did you get the seal out? I've tried all manner of pics and just can't seem to get it to move! Thanks for your time.
My shaft stripped were my drive shaft hooks onto my pionion shaft and goes into the rear hub do you know of anyone who has one as parts if so or any help would be apreciated plz pm me if you know of anything
