Yamaha XJ750 SECA - First Road Test

Taking the Yamaha around the driveway testing out the bike. I was wary at first thinking the bike would be much harder to handle given the weight but it glided along like butter. Just use the same technique for slow speed turns just like I do on my 250cc TBR7. Look where you want to go, the bike will follow.

I love this bike and I have worked on it enough now that I feel a synergy with it and trust it on the road at higher speeds. First time I rode it over 75 mph I couldn’t stop thinking that the wheel was going to fall off or some other mechanical failure that was going to launch me into the air or eat it on the pavement. They are still around and you can get them fairly cheap. I got this one for $600 off Craigslist 🙂✌🏽

Awesome work 👍 good to see it running, I wouldn’t have imagined it’s small, looked average size till I saw you riding it. Cool bud bro 👍

Yeah, feels so small although it doesn’t look that small when I am not sitting on it. I do have really long legs, I am six foot tall but have the legs of someone who is like 6’8” 😁

Good to see you enjoying that beautiful motorcycle. 😊 Been out of it all for being in for annual heart exams. My cardiologist told me yesterday that I'm fine and I've taken great care of myself. Soon I will continue practicing. Keep having fun Brother 👊😉

Thank you Brother! You know if the bike was perfect I wouldn't be happy. I would mess around with it like I do my new dirt bike. Bringing something back to life and making it run again makes it your baby haha ;) Peace and many blessings to you. What is going on with China?!!! Absolutely ridiculous, just don't go there, they want to start a war. I could go on and on... be well Sig Man, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

I learned on a 250cc Chinese dirt bike for a month or so and then onto this XJ750 and never looked back. Technically this is my first bike since I bought it before the 250cc but spent the first two months working on it. SECA is running great now and I have intention of a getting another bike anytime soon. Thanks and watching and commenting Brother, ride free ✌🏽

I have the same bike. I had to put on a fuel petcock and a new fuel line filter. Those lines coming off the petcock get deteriorated over time and probably need to be replaced. The bike runs great now, although trying to move it without help is a hassle for me because I'm only 5'6😅 It also feels very top-heavy. I normally ride a Tw200. Good video👍
@HandyL
@HandyL Год назад
Funny that you mention the petcock and the fuel lines. Bike ran great until the end of last season. Had an issue with the fuses under the seat and replaced with blade fuses and new box. After that, won’t start. Everything was perfect and after replacing fuse box and bike sat for no more than a week it won’t start. This past weekend I took the petcock apart and noticed the big gasket that controls the vacuum flow for RES and ON tore through.

Fun video Handy…..it didn’t look like to was too small….low center of gravity is good, but you definitely have to be comfortable when riding!

What is the fuel efficiency in this bike with tuned carbs ?
@HandyL

I am getting about 40 miles per gallon maybe a little more. The specs on paper say over 50 miles per gallon which I believe is doable with just cruising speeds and being light on the throttle.

I think the size of the bike is fine. It's a good looking bike, too bad you have to do a lot of adjustments on it ... At least your HANDY! Get it? Me, I would be the Awful Kinoffal of the bike world if I rode! 😬 (Not to sure of that "Kinoffal" spelling thought!)

I have since gotten very comfortable on this bike. I am riding on the highway a lot more and have gotten over my fear of riding over 80mph. I noticed that the bike feels much more planted on the road at 90-100 mph and it seems to cut through the wind instead of feeling like the wind is going to blow me off the bike.
@mikeacevedo1676
@mikeacevedo1676 Год назад
You need to Sit back you are too close to tank. Your butt should be almost be at end of seat. You Dont have1/4 faring Get One because at 70 80 + mph the Wìnd wìll hit you in the chest ,Get a Full Screen Brain Bucket it will make the highway riding more aerodynamic If you can get a faring it Handles better at high speeds. Had one 5 yrs put over 77,000 thousand miles on it , great bulletproof Bike You can change Seat also Get a Helmet ! Good Luck keep both wheels down💪🏼Lol watch redlining it will pop up even in third gear. that's a fast machine in its day 12.54 quarter mile Best Handling on curvy roads. Thats an Awesome Machine. 👍🏼
@HandyL
@HandyL Год назад
Thanks for the tip about sitting back more on the seat. I have a full face helmet, just wasn’t wearing it while riding around the driveway. I also put the front fairing back on and you are absolutely correct, what a difference at highway speeds. This is my first bike and I am loving it! Thanks for watching and commenting! 😃✌🏽

All depends. I rode a 250cc for a month before riding this. I can say that I would have had a much more difficult time learning if I started on this bike. Mainly the throttle control.

@@ringolams The power band sneaks up on you when the rpms get up to a certain point. The rpms take off and the bike can feel like it's jumping out from under you, ie, throwing you off.
@HandyL
@HandyL Год назад
@@ringolams I am a beginner rider and don't have much experience at all every bike being a 250cc before the SECA. I don't mean to mislead you, the 750 SECA is by no means uncontrollable. You just have to be aware that the power band past 6000rpms is considerable. I don't typically rev the engine up past this point and most always shift before 6000rpms. I have a few times taken it up to the redline just to see what it's like but only for a brief moment. It's a different animal at the high rpms and this bike can tear it up but I'm a new rider and in my mid forties so I don't push it.
@HandyL
@HandyL Год назад
@@ringolams There is something my instructor said during the MSF course that for me was the best piece of advice for a new rider. 'You ride your motorcycle like you drive your car.' If you are a fast aggressive driver you will be the same on your motorcycle. The amount of risk you take in your car translates directly to how much risk you will take on your bike. Most importantly, how aware you are as a driver will dictate your awareness in traffic. No matter what bike you ride, you are the one who decides if it is safe or not. Every bike has the ability to be unsafe and pushed past a stable and uncontrollable limit. You as the rider have to judge where the point is you are losing control. Ride free, peace my friend 🙂✌

Haaa…. had one of these in 198x till a golf took my right of way. It had a horrible wobble beyond 150kmh, not a very good suspension…
@HandyL
@HandyL Год назад
I read that replacing the bearings in the steering neck race fixes the high speed wobble. I took it to 90-100mph a few weeks ago and had no wobbling.
