Nice to see this bikes come to market. Comments: Not standard with a dropper? No chain guide. Nice to have in tube battery similar to Turbo Levo. Price is attractive and good deal if the bikes are "Japan quality."
What do you think of their pricing? I wonder if its foolish to split the difference between cheapie bikes(most net only) like Rad, Addmotor, Juiced, and full service high quality bikes like Haibike, Specialized, Riese & Muller. So they lose all the volume low profit value shoppers and the lower volume high profit high end shoppers. Perhaps they are going after Pedego.
Agreed, I just saw the Haibike Urban Plus review on EBR which looks like a direct response to Yamaha. To be honest, the Yamaha MTB looks a little underwhelming, and I would still go with a Haibike on sale. But the urban/city bikes look like winners.
Wonder if Yamaha will eventually follow in Bosch's foot steps and make their own PowerTube so they can design better looking and sleeker bikes. This bike prob performs but they went simple and safe on the design very generic looking. (love the SC music the background lol)
yeah but the battery system doesn't appear to recharge while your on the go, my friend just got this bike two weeks ago and its "ok", its definitely not $3,600 worth "ok", maybe for $1,000 to $1,500 but without a KERS style system (which is entirely possible on this platform) to recharge the battery on braking or even when pedaling, this model falls short of the desired wow factor much like a tesla road car, its good for those few initial take offs but after a few hard runs its time to cool down and recharge, sorry Yamaha but this is not worth the money by a long shot, get a KERS style system onto this bike to really extend ride time, range, and recharge the battery while riding and then you'll be on the right path.
This had nothing to do with Yamaha. I know of several companies that made a bike that "charges itself" and they went out of business due to high overhead and poor sales (ie high development cost and undelivered promises). Fantasize all you want, but practical application of bikes that charge themselves has been disproven in the real market several times.

@@BlueMonkeyBicycles There is no point what so ever of having a battery that runs a motor to give you a little boost until the battery dies and you have to haul all that equipment around to recharge it when you get home or to someplace with an outlet, that's just not smart, a kinetic energy recovery system is the practical solution and a intelligent application of modern technology to improve the experience on such a product. Additionally it is very sad that Yamaha does not even provide a kick stand or some form of keeping this $3,600 bicycle from standing on its own once you get somewhere, like the park, or the store on your way back from your ride to grab a drink, you get a ugly, monstrous contraption that you keep, who the hell knows where to mount it on when you get home or you have to have a Tour de France style team following you around to hold the bike up or mount it to a bike mount on a follow vehicle if you go out, these are simple problems that should have been covered before releasing this bike and other similar ones. What a sham
Only my Haibike like i said its a 2018 model with the Yamaha PW motor its great although would be better if max power was 20 mph rather than the 15 mph.
