much appreciated! i could not figure out which of the crank tick marks to line it up with and haynes manual was no help.

zeb's dream garage did it work after putting the time at the last mark. Mine is lined up to middle one and will not start

27 pins between timing marks is another indication. I'm doing mine now and yours is the same. Thank you! 👍

Thanks for the help. I retimed the engine and didn’t know which mark to use, so I just guessed and used the middle mark. I kicked it probably 200 times and could only get a little smoke out of the exhaust pipe. I’ll try again with the correct mark and hopefully the bike starts

cool I line it up with the tick mark the 1 you want to use is thhe 2nd one on the end from the 1st 1 from the middle Behind the one by itself And that's how you time it.

How should the cam lobes be facing ? The intake is slightly lower than the exhaust?

I sware if I look at my Mark's on the crank it says HI so I line it up with the "I" does that sound right

I wanna go buy this 2002 yz450f, it's up for 1500. says it needs the timing adjusted. I think I'ma be able to do that just fine but he said it doesn't run because the timing was so bad. is there any way to be able to tell if it's timing by kicking it over? or if there are any other issues? and do you think it would be worth it?

Dude i dont know where you are...but in my area, a 2002 YZ450 that isn't in correct time is worth about $400. If the bike isn't in time enough to run then you have no idea what shape everything else in inside it. If the timing was installed more than 1 tooth off and someone tried to start the bike it could have really destroyed most of the top end.

@@mxgryan I live in Massachusetts. the bike isn't that bad looking to be honest. it's a super clean looking engine and the plastics aren't too bad. the front forks are rebuilt, new rear tire and rim. fmf exhaust pipe . he says new sprocket and chain but the front sprocket in the photo doesn't look that new but it doesn't look bad. the bike to be honest to look super nice would need new plastics which isn't too bad maybe some new bolts so they look brand new and to be honest it would be pretty mint. also the bike does have like a lot of not stock stuff which prolly doesn't rlly matter but I'm wondering like could I part it out for more than 1500 or at least for 1500? if I somehow can't get it running? what else could be wrong with it if it isn't timing. sorry for the longgg ass paragraph just need help with this. if u wanna chat on like instagram or something so we aren't chatting here reply with ur insta and I'll message you.
