I love this bike. So fast , so comfy, suspension 5 star. Maybe bars could be a tad higher, with a bubble black screen these are awesome. I nearly bought an R1. But when I turned up to my mates on one, they asked me what’s that sticking out of my arse. I said its the new R1. Oh....they said. So I bought the Thunderace....never looked back.

Just got one . Incredible . So smooth so agile .very very responsive . Goes as slow or as fast as you want . I was scared it would be too fast for me as it's so smooth you can tinker or take off on a stinker . Up to you . The best bike I have ever been on I'm 57 lol

@@johnnymacf1 I studied up on it m8 . I can't remember . Lol . Usually you can tell if it's been taking care off just by tyres paint electrics then look at suspension . Engine is bullet proof . You will love this bike . Let me know how you get on . Few bad accidents up here still too cold for good tyre grip .

Surprisingly honest appraisal I think, didn't know that Hammond had ever ridden one of these. Compared to modern sports bikes they are VERY comfortable and have enough power to keep up with a good rider on the bars. The engine is a real oil guzzler though and the gearbox shares a second gear jumping issue with the Thundercat if it's been ragged hard over the years. Get a clean example and it'll still impress, if you can handle the weight and don't mind topping up the oil every few hundred miles.

I loved that bike, had one for six years, bought it brand new as a divorce cheer me up present, it did a brilliant job. Pulled like a tractor down low and was mental after 8,000 rpm. So comfy, even the wife wishes I never got rid of it. I have a KTM Superduke R now with its dodgy radiator fixings, headlight that comes on as you pass under the shade of every tree, fuel gauge that goes from full to urgent empty in half a mile and all the nuts and bolts rust within 6 months. I wish Yamaha built KTM's

Thinking of buying one of these for a second bike. My lady doesn't like being on the back of my R1, but she loved my Fzr.

I can think of many bikes just as comfy and just as quick or quicker. a Honda Blackbird is just as comfy and a ZZR 1200 or ZZR 1100 is just as comfy with the power to match it. i love and hate the looks of the thunderace which is my only reason i haven't bought one. i have to say this one in the video looks awesome in these colors though.

I bought a second hand one with 36000 on it.used it 2 years and done the fastest ive ever done on a bike137 mph might not be fast for some but plenty for me.never caused me any problems and the speed was exciting.looking to bye another bike and would concider one.mine was ex police in red and silver and I thought poorly maintained which surprised me. bought without mot and rear tyre was well past it.dont believe because it was explode it was well maintained this wasn't..but bike was ace for sure

I thought the back looked better than a Ducati monster and I got one to upgrade from the moped and found a mind boggling psychotic explosion under me when first twisting up the throttle. Soon though it didn't seem too quick. I got another low mileage one, most expensive one on the market from a dealer which was a bit quicker but not enough and sent it back. Perhaps with a smaller front socket it would make me happier. I've learned that other people's views, especially if you don't know them, have limited value on bikes.

They were produced from '96 to '03. This model belongs to the '98 and up produced bikes. So not that wrong in a sense.

Miss my thunderace but at the same time I don't. Mild steel exhaust and probably the only bike I've owned that actually needs the exup... It's good, if you're willing to service said valve 4 times a year (riding every day)

The Ace was and still is a confused bike. It was lighter and more compact than the FZR1000 it replaced, but had more casual seating and lower spec suspension. It was supposed to be Yamaha's premier bike, but everyone there must have known the R1 was coming and would supplant it.....so why not just make a final, greatest version of the FZR1000 and save the YZF name/top rank for the first gen R1......while simultaneously preparing to launch the first gen FZ1, to do what it appeared the Ace was trying to do?
@maselbac

Or why not just turn a blind eye to what's written on the bike and just ride the thing

@@mktzi7678 youre right it is in fact my opinion. Im sure im not the only one who feels that way. Dont take it personal, these were great running bikes for the time but they were very bulbous compared to the zx9, gsxr1100 and the 929.

@@danielleech9183 my old fzr1000 exup was 134bhp on the Dyno with a dynojet kit and slip on can so I very much doubt the thunderace would only put out 112 bhp at the wheel although I do remember an old test where the early exup was the quickest out of all the exups and thunderace .
