The Japanese character for Kuu can mean both “sky” and “emptiness”. Following the introduction of color into the world through Color, this piece represents the vastness of the open sky.
Fly is the final piece in the trio of Color-Kuu-Fly, and it represents what follows the emptiness of the sky. This song embodies the joy and wonder that comes after the suspense of the introduction to a
new world.
PULSE 2022 was Yamatai's tenth annual Spring concert. Held on April 2nd, 2022 Yamatai performed in Cornell University's famous Bailey Hall for the first time in three years since COVID.

Yamatai is Cornell University’s one and only taiko group. Founded in 2006, Yamatai is energetically developing its individual style as a relatively young taiko team. Our current repertoire consists of pieces written by Bonten (a professional taiko group in Japan), traditional and community taiko pieces, as well as original compositions by Yamatai members and alumni. Through rigorous study and training, Yamatai seeks to explore musical possibilities of taiko drumming in contemporary adaptations while respecting the origins of the traditional art. We are excited to be a part of the growing international taiko community, and to share our passion for taiko with our audience!
