How he isn't a celebrity like Mr Satain makes no sense. Best baseball player in the world, and he also went to fight alien invaders to save earth. Mega chad
Yamcha is such a cool character in DB he would rather die fighting than give up, even with a broken leg he wanted to help. My man is always there to help, dude has reached chad status of character
@@fishboy3612 How was Yamcha a simp? He wasn't simping for anybody lol, he had a fear of women but also wanted to get married, and then Bulma came and simped for Yamcha. Yamcha is canonically a playboy, the whole reason why Bulma left him was because of all the fangirls Yamcha has
@@fishboy3612 But he wasn't. Yamcha never simped for anybody. Simping means obsessing over someone else who does not return their affection. Yamcha never did that. He's just a playboy and Bulma didn't like that. Which is ironic considering the amount of men Bulma has flirted with while she was in a relationship with Yamcha.
Fun Fact: Yamucha is the only character aside from Goku to have his song in the show. He was also the last character to have an insert song in Dragon Ball.
After finally watching original DB, I COMPLETELY agree! A lot of his character progression and moments felt very "protagonist"-like. As though the whole joke of the show is that *he* would have been the main character if not for Goku.
Tintillo Roldan But both their images have been (Frieza not so much) slaughtered, so having them come back as strong characters would be kinda ridiculous.
Define martial artist, when it comes to perfecting and creating new fighting styles then yes I would give it to yamcha and tien. Let's not forget yamhca literally slapped kami with his spirit ball
Yes, they were the "i invent new / stole and adapted a technique!" of the DB. Goku and etc are just learning it in training too much. Well, aside of transformations, which usually come to heritage not martial arts
@@markthemusicman862 martial arts is derived from hand to hand combat, tien and yamcha are known for this and a good example is from the world martial arts tournament, while krillin Is far more powerful than either, he's power comes from ki attacks and passive maneuvers. Tien and yamcha are the closest of hand to hand combat
And how is that in-character? Yamcha had never been protrayed as a player. Bulma, meanwhile... she flirted with a lot of men while with Yamcha. General Blue, Zarbon, she thought about what it would've been like to marry Goku, and finally, she and Vegeta did the deed. Who's more likely to cheat?!?
Yamcha is such an underrated character. He doesn't get that much love. He sure gets a lot of hate because he's weak. But he was awesome at on time. Maybe he might have a comeback in Super. Hopefully he does. Btw, this song is awesome.
+MultiTarded "even Raditz" are you serious? he's way stronger than that. In the saiyan saga, he easily dodged the saibaman and beat him.. until that caught him off gaurd and self-destructed and keep in mind a saibaman is just as strong as Raditz. Later Yamcha trained with King Kai and got much stronger in the Cell Saga, but the others were stronger than him so retired from fighting.
+spacedp Yeah, he's the weakest amongst the fighters in the main character ensemble, but I bet he's leagues stronger than most regular people in their world. He could have taken Satan's place as chief of his fighting school, but maybe he'd get bored or something.
The thing about Yamcha is that, he knows he's not the strongest. Up against opponents like Vegeta, Nappa, or even Cell, he knows he's outclassed. Even still, he gets up, pulls that fighting stance, and starts throwing punches. Does he know he's probably gonna die? Yeah. Does he care? If it means protecting people, not a bit. THAT'S why Yamcha is my favorite character.
@@kitkat7074but Yamcha took Krillin's place against the first saibaman, and it's implied he somehow knew the next person to fight one was risking their life. It was tactical since Krillin had already been wished back once, but it was also a selfless choice, and basically the opposite of cowardly. Granted he shouldn't have let his guard down until he was sure the Saibaman was dead since he basically won that battle, but that's a different issue.
In the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament opening round Yamcha really was equal to Tien (at least in the beginning), and it showed how much he had progressed and developed as a fighter, training under the Turtle Hermit. In Z, in my opinion, he was wrongly used and made look weak and forgettable side character. In the original DB he was a worthy opponent to anyone, and a considerable side character. Yamcha rocks!
to be fair, from Z onwards it was made so only those with alien dna were capable of being strong. not a smart decision, but it's kinda why the humans fell off.
@@MiggyBiggyhow is it bad writing that a warrior race made literally to become stronger is stronger? I am starting to believe that now this "bad writing" expression literally lost its meaning. Especially in the Dragon Ball fandom
Fun fact: The Moro arc in Super's manga made him one of the leaders of the squads that they used to fight Moro, and he got a few kills to brag about too 😉
Xen778 Agree. The earthling may be weak compared to the other races, they are one off the only... How do i say this... nice, cool and peacefull race with the namek. Heck, these two have a loot of similarities. Note that their determination and fighting spirit is just perfect. Yet, they are still left behind for "gOkU" (Even vegeta is starting to get left behind...)
Yeah tien was badass in z. With the iconic fight vs cell and my favourite tien scene: when he (completely outmatched) came in to save gohans ass from super buu
"he wanted to finish dragonball when picollo was the "final boss" but the money grabbers asked him to continue more and more so yeah, no much love envolved as initially" This is a lie
Just think about this though....Yamcha can say he beat Goku once. Sure. Not when Goku was at his greatest, but he can definitely say he beat Goku at least once.
Ah, Yamcha... such a great character he could have been... Well liked by the Japanese fanbase (coming 15 in the Top 20 poll beating Tenshihan, Bulma and even Android 17) and the one with the coolest character design before the introduction of the Super Saiyan transformation... It's such a pity Toriyama decided to focus on superhuman-type fights rather than actual character development. It's such bad writing at what Yamcha had become by the Android Saga and personally the thing that I find unforgivable is that he didn't end up with Bulma. Vegeta and Bulma hooking up was just a (easy) plot device to introduce more Saiyans to the party. However, in the whole anime, we never see the 2 of them bonding (Bulma shows some attraction to Vegeta in the anime, but's that all). Heck, Vegeta and Trunks (be it Mirai Trunks or Kid Trunks) have more moments that Bulma and Vegeta. It's really sad that in the end, not only he was relegated as one of the weakest characters but he was just simply a wasted character... Also, let's not forget Dragon Ball was intended pretty much as a action gag manga (hence some of the very funny scenes Yamcha was shown in) before Toriyama decided to do a type of manga (a nekketsu shounen) he was not good at... -_-
Toriyama didn't give up on character development. Many people such as Krillin, Vegeta, Gohan, Master Roshi, and even the pilaf gang still get development in dragon ball super
Jantheking To have to wait for decades in the form of a very lackluster TV anime for characters to have some development... yes Toriyama did give up on character development a long time ago - a very easy example Vegeta himself: the fact that he let Cell achieve his final form just for the sake of his pride and the defeat he faced because of it - the consequence of that should have been a major development in his character to show some humility yet we leave him as a warrior who gives up on fighting at the end to his usual self at the start of Buu... Yes he changed from a ruthless murderer to a protector of the Earth at the end but while it started quite amazing as a reluctant ally to the Z Fighters, his overall change in Buu came out of nowhere since there was no built up to it - he kills a bunch of innocents at the Arena just to fight Goku then decides to protect the Earth? Even if the Dragon Balls are a deus ex machina, that shouldn’t have been an excuse.
Jantheking You mention every other character ”development” in the show except for literally the best one, Piccolo. Vegeta’s development is honestly one of the worst character development out there in all of fiction and he really only gets a pass because dragon ball is pretty old.
Dr.TacoPHD123 Piccolo and Gohan have the best character development of the series (till the end of the Cell Saga at least... ) Recently I was watching Dragon Ball after a really long time and that opening scene of We are Angels really got me - Piccolo should have been a mentor figure (along with Vegeta to some degree) and letting Gohan be the protagonist, but it seems for Toriyama everytime he doesn’t know what to do with his characters, he turns into running gags - Piccolo, Krillin, Gohan, Goku, Vegeta...
+Anthony Mejias I have trouble thinking anyone else getting an image song like this. It's certainly striking, and really pumps you up when he takes on Ten lol
Yamcha was such a great character and a fierce warrior, but in DBZ he only had three "relevant" appearances: when he died to a Saibaiman, when he almost died to Android 19 and later when he fought Ten Shin Han in the Martial Arts tournament. So sad.
Again you're not wrong but it should also be taken into account that Fortuneteller Baba Interfered with the fight first by singing so Yamcha couldn't hear where the invisible man was moving.

I know you're just fucking with me, but the fact that you managed to include a reference to both my favorite video game and favorite anime in one post makes you awesome
blujay1524 Honest answer: because once he introduced aliens, there was only so much you could do before a human was outclassed. In fact, that was the point, that the aliens could so easily outclass the threats that Goku had faced up until that point. Once the Super Saiyan was introduced, any hopes of the DB cast catching up were next to none. But, by that point Toriyama had brought in Vegeta, so at least Goku still had a rival.
I hate that the “fans” who claim that Yamcha is a joke. He was pretty cool in Dragon Ball. People forget Yamcha won that fight against the Saibamen and it was the Saibaman that decided to go that far. Not to mention the fact that he fought him too save Krillen knowing he was brought back previously and that Yamcha would be able to come back with the dragon balls. And he was doing what he had too do up until the Cell Saga. The Buu Saga And GT didn’t really use him but better not use him then make him a joke like Super did. Seriously the fact the jokes of Yamcha got into the show. You know it’s a problem when it went that far. Seriously was it team four star that did it or something
actually TFS have him lampshade how overdone the "yamcha is weak" joke is and how he's only human, and if anything Krillin is an idiot for continuing to try.
Boy TFS was NOT the one to make those jokes prominent, those existed way before and will persist after. It's Toriyama deciding to make him the first one to fail so many times that put his failures in infamy. When you consistently as an author make a character job like that, it's no wonder so many fans looked past his positive qualities.
@@savageraccoon163 They had him completely change personalities part way through, along with his voice. At first he was just an overconfident douche, then he switched to being a coward. But frankly I think being a coward fits Yamcha in an abridged setting, considering his involvement in the series by the time of DBZ. They ended up making a version of the character that I liked to see.
This is honestly one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in my life, even if the only words I know are “Yamacha-san” and “Roga Fufu Ken”. It shows the utter greatness that is the best character Yamcha. I would honestly want an episode in the next season of Dragon Ball where they just bring back the bandit outfit, and have him messing with Goku and co. With practical jokes, but it gets to a point where Goku or Vegeta catch onto him and challenge him to a fight and he puts up a decent one. That would make my day and be an awesome Yamcha Episode. I miss the wolf fang fist and the spirit ball.
Yup, he had the coolest attacks he invented ALL ON HIS OWN. And he made them so much quicker than Muten made Kamehameha. If you ask me he should be the real successor to Muten Roshi because of that!
I think the humans were better characters than the Saiyans in terms of personality, but DBZ fans only rate characters based on how badass they are, it seems. Definitely would've loved to see them do more with them. I mean, if nothing else, they coulda given them Super Human forms. DB/Z was already the king of ass-pulls, so you can't tell me it wouldn't make sense, lol.
They had a ton of golden opportunities to let them shine, too. I get that it was basically the rule that Goku had to defeat the arc villain, but all the secondary villains could've easily gone to the humans rather than just letting the Saiyans do literally everything. It isn't like they didn't train, either. Let the guys show their work for fuck's sake.
some Wolf Fang Fist and Sokidan action would have been hype.... I loudly booed in a packed theater when Tien Shinhan said "I though it would be too much for Yamcha and Chiaotzu" the hell AT when did Tien become Yamcha's keeper? I'll write it off they just wanted to show off and establish Jaco to DBZ masses
Yamcha one of my favs he is the most underrated character in the Dragon Ball Series, gets way to much flak by fans. Why because he in thier minds lost to a saibamen who killed itself because Vegeta killed the last one who lost. But it was down Yamacha did win that fight, and remember saibamen were as strong as Radtiz who Goku could not beat with out help. Plus Yamcha fought so Krillin would not go next after Tein. Because he had died once, and he could at that time not be wished back. A noble thing by Yamacha. But the only reason the attacked worked was Yamacha was overconfident leaving himself open. But do we do give flak to Vegeta who does the same thing no. Should we not mock Goku for losing to the low level Radtiz, as its the samething plus Goku did let Radtiz go, like a moron. Akira Toriyama how about a Yamacha movie that redeems him that gives this hero the ending he earned with a wife, and family as that was what he wanted from the start. If you can fix Gohan somewhat you can fix Yamacha too.
@@heroic9631 You got that right Z did him dirty, Super even worse, Then add in DBZ abridgedwhich I like, it takes great joy in mocking him, and assassinated him more. And the abridged series also was lot of new peoples first look at the series. So to them Yamcha is this loser, who lost his girl, to Vegeta. Also sorry this took forever as your reply never showed up, saw when I came to here this song again.
Only reason YamCha died in the Saiyan saga was because he let his guard down. I would be willing to bet that he could fight Nappa at a near even level. And the only reason he was left behind was because he's not a Saiyan.
That would certainly coincide with what is known as the "Worf Effect". Basically, take the strongest guy in the group and have them lose against the new enemy to validate the threat that said enemy poses to the heroes. The only reason why it wasn't Piccolo was because he had a character arc with Gohan that had to play out to the end.
@@JanetStarChild Yamcha was the third weakest person there (Beating Gohan and Chaozu), so he certainly wasn't the strongest guy in the group, and Nappa would've surely beaten the hell out of him, that being said, he was barely stronger than the Saibamen, yet was able to take it out, easily, in 40 seconds, so he probably would've at least put up a good fight.
@@diddlypoop The problem here is you're going by scribbled power levels ...and numbers ultimately mean nothing... I go by what I see; performance; the visual evidence. Fact of the matter is that we see plenty of evidence that Yamcha was one of the top fighters there, virtually equal with Tien. Those two did the best in their training at Kami's lookout. Krillin, Chaozu and Yajerobi were the stragglers.
Imagine this: The ToP saga is on screen. Goku vs Kefla and Vegeta vs Toppo. Yamcha is fighting alone against 5 oponents. He is quite damaged from previous attacks of other opponents. He fells to the ground knowing that he will lose. Sudenly Vegeta shouts: "This piece of trash can't even fight anymore, someone just end him." Everything turns silent as a beam of holy light emites from the ground. Everyone stands from their seats, even Zeno and Grand Priest. It is Yamcha, standing menacingly with a death stare at Vegeta. *Wolf fang hurricane starts playing* Sudently Yamcha disepears, reapearing behind Toppo landing a Godly Wolf fang fist. Toppo gets blown out of the ring. Then Yamcha turns on the prince of all Sayians himself and says in a cold way: "Looks like your opponent is gone, after this tournament, Vegeta, you will learn your place, dont worry, I will settle the matter with you." Vegeta, annoyed but at the same time scared as hell thinks: "How did he achieve this form sooner than me, with no skill at all." He turns back on Jiren, as he is paralyzed by enourmous fear. The last thing Jiren saw was a glimpse of light and he was knocked out by one single Sokidan.
I partially blame TeamFourStar for the absolute bastardization and ultimate destruction of Yamcha, at least in terms of the internet. The other half, of course, goes to Toriyama.
You are totally correct on both guilty parties. Toriyama needs to fuck off so we can get some new blood writing for Dragon Ball. If only it was public domain... Also, to hell with TFS; a bunch of assholes. They single-handedly turned the franchise into a joke as well as their toxic fans hijacking it just to shit out memes.
i hate yamcha haters. they think they're so hip when they're just as bad as the "my favorite character is more powerful and therefor better than yours!" side of the fanbase. not only do i blame toriyama's lack of writing of these characters (yamcha, tien, piccolo, chaotzu,) but also team fourstar and its sheep of fans who love to quote and get automatic thumbs up.
pfft, that's our opinion, we don't care what you think about Yamcha, when either you like him or not. we won't bother you only if you bring us up for no reason just because we dissed on your so called favorite character.
How did they fuck up one of their first characters as badly as they did with Yamcha? He should fight Beerus and this should absolutely play in the background.
@Boel B Sort of how it felt for me. The amount of effort put into Dragon Balls first 2 arcs compared to Z baffles me. The Saiyan Saga is still good even if it isn't perfect, but the rest of Z is honestly really weak and filled with problems.
C'moon Yamcha is simply one of the best characters ever. Funny guy, latin lover, one of the most powerful humans of every manga...and...th roga fu-fu ken is one of the most epic fighting moves ever created
I like Yamcha as a character! People shit on him a lot. His song is awesome. I feel he’s not given a fair chance a lot. He tends to have quite a bit of misfortunes. ❤️
Forget the fact that he was rendered useless as a fighter in DBZ, I think it's utter shit that he never got the girl, considering one of the first things we learn about him is that he wants nothing more than to find his perfect gal, of course him turning into a playboy or w.e isn't at all far-fetched, but it seems more like bad writing than anything else.
+Monkey Dee Wait, he got a girlfriend during androids/cell saga. He wanted to wish for a pearl necklace for his girlfriend, whom we admittedly never see.
Yamcha’s always gonna be cool to me. I relate to him a lot (whether that’s good or bad is up to you), and he’s just kind of an underdog/dark horse and I tend to like those kinds of characters
Yamcha appeared on like the 5th or 6th episode of Dragon Ball, but instantly I was able to relate to him on a personal level. I have yet to have encountered another DB/DBZ character that I felt a similar connection to
It's honestly quite dissapponting that they never explored his rivalry with Goku right after the first tournament arc, despite them building that up during the Pilaf arc. He was a really compelling character when he was first introduced.
Yamcha was awesome. Then a random Saibaman happened. Since then he's been a joke. Like Raditz. I'd love to see more of Raditz, but that'll never happen.
It's shame that in the end of Dragon Ball Z we stopped to see attacks and spells like Roga Fu Fu Ken, Souki Dan, Makkankosappo and Kikoho to see attacks like Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack and other childish ones.
