“Yano et Agatsuma” is a music unit reinterpreting traditional Japanese “min’yo,” a form of folk singing born from everyday Japanese customs and culture. The two musicians making up the unit have long been active in the music world transcending genres, and have contributed to reshaping min’yo to fit our modern world.

Akiko began learning piano as a child.
Since making her solo debut in 1976 with “JAPANESE GIRL,” Akiko has constantly been involved on the music scene in her own distinctly unique way, and boasts a truly broad portfolio covering multiple music genres, such as pop, jazz, rock, and even classical..
Akiko is active on a truly broad scope, including joining Yellow Magic Orchestra’s world tour twice, and has collaborated on many occasions with a variety of artists, including Rei Harakami, AGATSUMA, Hiromitsu, Hiromi, The Chieftains, Pat Metheny, and Marc Ribot.
AGATSUMA, Hiromitsu（Shamisen Player）
Hiromitsu took up the Tsugaru-shamisen at the age of six. From a young age, he won numerous Tsugaru-shamisen contests and earned a strong reputation in the authentic Japanese music world.
He attracted attention with his performances transcending genres, such as jazz and rock, and enjoyed a major debut in 2001 with “AGATSUMA.” Since then, Hiromitsu has been active on a global scale, including performances in the countries of Asia, America, and Europe. He also often vies with overseas musicians.
Hiromitsu is one of the new-generation Tsugaru-shamisen players conveying the greatness of traditional Japanese instruments to the people of the present.
