These episodes are so frustrating, like everything keeps getting worse and we see how everybody are loosing their minds like Xian and Yuan are cool but they are crazy, we knew fuheng and yingluo could never be together but still hurts and the emperor is just making things harder because he simply can. He doesn’t know all the trouble he is creating. I mean it’s not as depressing as Ruyi’s Royal Love but it’s super frustrating
I agree!! It is soooo frustrating!! I'm frustrated about different things than u, but so frustrated! After Chun's story arc came out, i had such trouble enjoying the series. But i kept watching cos the actress was doing great, and Xian and Chunwang kept me riveted
In retrospect, he is exactly the same person in both RuYi and Yanxi . Selfish , judgemental and narcissistic. In Yanxi it's presented in a comedic manner , in RuYi it looks darker . He never truly loved and cherished anyone in both series. In Yanxi it at least looks like he cherished Ling Fei but he tore her apart from her true love by force and threatened to kill her at least twice .
I feel so bad for Chun. Yes, I get that at the time it was punishable for palace women to have interactions with other men, but I understand her wanting her feelings to be known. It was probably one of the last things she could do before she became a concubine. She probably can't bring herself to punish her maid either because she knows on some level she was correct in her actions, but she is also her dowry maid and one of the few connections she has to that lost innocence. However, I am excited knowing that Chun 2.0 will soon appear!
I don't blame Fuheng and I'm certainly not upset at him for what he did. I understand completely why he did what he did, and it makes complete sense for him. But for me, it was another sign that he and Yingluo at the end of the day just do not understand each other. Yingluo was so upset because what Fuheng did from her perspective was a betrayal of their love. If he truly knew her, he would have realized that she would rather die than to ever pretend that what she felt for him was wrong, than to lie to someone about her true, honest, and genuine feelings just because she was afraid of being punished. She wasn't ashamed of how she felt, and if that meant she'd be killed, she would accept that, because otherwise it would be an insult to how she felt about Fuheng and her commitment to him. When he agreed to marry Erqing, he was saying that he didn't believe that they were strong enough to go through the pain, that he wasn't strong enough to let her do this thing that she earnestly believed in. When he agreed to marry someone else, she realized that he would never be able to withstand everything she could and would put him through in her quest for vengeance. In her eyes, he gave up when it got hard rather than persevere knowing that he never pretended that their love was less than what it was. I'm not saying her reaction was entirely logical, nor am I saying that what he did was wrong, but it was completely in character for them both, which at the end of the day is why I think they were just never really compatible.
THIS. This is why everyone is so mad at him. It's not that he agreed to get married but that Yingluo probably hadn't been thrown into a cell before he agreed to get married. Emp and YL know to call the emperors bluff.
He also assumes that Yingluo will give in/ reveal her “true colors” (the golddigger the imagines her to be) once things get too scary/hard, so part of it is him playing Chicken with her.
I do not think it was obvious to Fuheng at all, so I forgive him for this mistake, maybe not past and future ones, but in this instance, I think he did what was right with the information and resources he had, specially considering the time pressure.
Poor Chun though. Like gurl twisted so much of her life because she believed she was living a forbidden romance novel, but in the end it was just her delusion.
Fu Heng : keeping the person he loved, safe at ALL COSTS Ying luo : keeping her word and integrity n promises at ALL COSTS. That's why they're not together.
Yuan is mental already. It just dawned on me that... with the exception of the kind Empress whom i love and Gao whom i cannot bear, my favourite characters in this series are the villains! Empress Nara and Yuan and Consort Chun. I dislike Chun's story arc but i think the actress saved it
11:47 I think that is the same problem with Consort Jia in Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace when they made her dumb to let Ruyi win and become Empress , they have to respect historical accuracy . Wei Yingluo who is the future Consort Ling cannot marry Fuheng .
Yingluo and Fuheng is super cute but doomed by history. I do like what they did with it though. They make the story work really well.....even if the entire drama would be almost unchanged without it.
Someone said in a comment once that you could kinda headcannon Jia (in Ruyi) suddenly becoming dumb because her maid is removed from the Palace, thus implying it was the maid who was mostly the brains behind the plans. Since Jia's plots get worse AFTER the maid leaves.
@satyasyasatyasya5746 yeah but I think the real reason is the drama kinda played down Jia's arrogance from the book. So when she starts suddenly acting arrogant I'm the drama (as leading to her downfall) viewers who haven't read the novel are confused. It's a nice headcanon though too!
I definitely have to agree on the story being unchanged without FH. I think even if we could have done without him the story, this whole FH/YL arc added a lot to the characterization of YL and the emperor, especially showing their attitudes towards love

I am surprised to see the emperor so infatuated. He always indulged to the Empress’s wishes, and that’s how Yingluo has survived most of the time. But when it comes to Yingluo’s marriage, he won't even listen to the Empress

Yes never liked these two as a pair because right up until the end of the drama he always makes decisions for her he almost never seems to see the real ying luo. The emperor for all the problems with that relationship does see her for the capable woman she truly is.
Ruyi's Royal Love and Yanxi Palace are both tragedies--the thing is you go into RRL knowing it's a tragedy, YP sneaks up on you with how tragic it is. We know the fates of the characters in both stories, and while YP definitely has more comedic moments, I always thought it was even more tragic than RRL. Yingluo only enters the palace to avenge her sister, then she ends up avenging the sisters/mother figures she adopts along the way. When Yingluo finally thinks she's had her revenge and makes a choice about her own life that she can be happy with, that choice consistently ends up backfiring on her spectacularly. Even the choices she makes to help other people end up biting her in the butt more often than not.
eh, at the end of the series, I think she really has found her happiness despite everything. Especially considering at the very start of the series her whole plan was just.....avenge her sister and die. She has a family, she has a man she loves (even if not her true love), and she ensured those she loved were avenged. Its a happy ending for her.
@@imogencrusader6306I never believed Fuheng was her true love. Their relationship is so shallow and they simply don't suit each other. He never truly knows her, understands her or respects her. It was her first love, but it would've never worked and it's memorable only because it was "forbidden"
One of main things that convinces Fuheng to give in is Yuan; he points out if this was a real trial it would be handled by the punishment bureau but the emperor is handling it himself.. which tells him that the emperor has an agenda so it won’t go well for Yinglou he tries to plead for her..second thing back in episode 23 after that conference with Hongzhou he just wants Yinglou to be safe that’s his whole thing he loves her more than himself and she can be upset or even hate him and he can ruin his own life but if he can guarantee her safety he’ll do it. I totally understand why he did it but it breaks my heart
I was 100 percent sure Chinwang killed that head eunuch, and lied to Yingluo so she wouldn’t feel guilty/ have any dirt on him: - If a random crazy beggar with no credentials showed up at the palace gate, shouting that he was head eunuch and was gonna punish a different eunuch, that would have been the gossip amongst bored servants and guards like IMMEDIATELY. But NO ONE ever acknowledged something like that, just that he “disappeared.” If my coworker vanished into thin air and a random beggar showed up at the office entrance claiming to be him, even if I didn’t believe it at all, I’d point out the weirdness of it during lunchtime small talk, bare minimum. - The eunuchs can leave the palace, so he’s got some knowledge of the city/layout, and quietly dumping a nameless beggar corpse somewhere would be much cleaner than risking him waking up during transport/trying to come back to the palace - He was repeatedly harassed and threatened, and based on the way he holds grudges, and how easily he killed that fake beggar for Xian, he wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to get true revenge, especially if nobody would ever know. Based on that, I assumed he killed the annoying maid too, not only did he not like her anyway, but now she’s threatening his ONLY friend. He could easily lure her away (her public crush on him) knock her out and kill/dispose of her the exact same way. -She’s got a family. The maids are mostly daughters of minor officials it seems. If she got dumped on the side of the road, alive but with no ID, she could still make her way home, even just walking, and her family would recognize her. Or even just send a letter! She could complain about how she was wronged. So now a local officials daughter is saying the same thing as the (theoretical) homeless guy trying to get into the forbidden city. Too many loose ends, he totally killed them both If they were still alive, then there’s now TWO people showing up at the gates, saying a specific eunuch attacked them.
About the head eunuch that they dispatched early on I believe the beef was that not only they got him outside after he tried to assault chinwang, they got him outside without his credential which said who he was and then he had no way to prove who he was AND also he would have appeared in the morning in the streets without any kind of permit from a higher up to authorize him being outside from the forbidding city, and the penalty for that was death. So, he had no way to sneak in without anyone realizing, he had no way to enter back within a formal way without being punished and if he was discovered sneaking/the guards realized who he was he would have penalized with death, so even if the head eunuch was alive he knew he had lost and could never return to the palace or let anyone know he had worked there and was an ''escaped servant''. About the maid, it would be more or less the same, I don't remember the chapter exactly but I do believe she was dead because even when we didn't? see him kill her, she threathen Yingluo and that is a big No!No! and as a maid who was degraded from embroidery to that awful job she had lost face and had less liberties than a eunuch, her family wouldn't take her back because she would be viewed as a escaped servant too and they would be accounted for protecting her and would have been punished along with her since they were not powerful enough to bribe a pardon from the emperor himself. She could say she was wronged all along like you said, but there had been countless of scenes of many people saying that being dragged to be killed and with no power from her inmediate family to push her - i assume- minor clan to request the head of their banner to make an exception an plea for her to the emperor she was dead anyway and her fathers and sibilings disgraced and dishonored for life, their head clan would have hated their guts for making him lose face too. i do believe the head eunuch is alive and hiding since we saw him getting beaten up and unconcious but not death in the cart, though if (i don't remember) if chinwang transported the cart somewhere without yingluo looking he may have killed him since the man was an absolute asshole to him.
So something I found out when I got curious and was Googling awhile back. It turns out that Yongzheng's 8th Prince, Fuhui was... Hua Fei's son. IRL, she had four children: a daughter who didn't live long enough for a name to be recorded or rank given, and three princes. I really wonder if the prince he killed being Hua's had something to do with Yuan being forced into being a eunuch.
I recently got into a show that has our 2 lovers in a staring role again. It's called the Royal Feast from 2022. It's set in the Ming Dynasty and it is a story about how Emperor Xuanzong of Ming and Empress Xiaogongzhang or Sun meet through food. When you have the time give it a watch. It's only 40 episodes and already after episode one, my mother and I are hooked.
Man, I know in these revenge themed dramas you got to make sure the lead reaches their lowest to make the revenge feel more satisfying later, but man, doesn’t make this easier to see.
Tbf Yongzhen was self aware. He knows he will never be with his first wife, he just likes to pretend by gathering girls who look like her, and because he *knows* that it makes sense that he can also overcome that to do the right thing. (It definitely helps that it would have meant both of the girls would hate him afterwards too)
So in my opinion, the emperor really WOULD have killed Ying Lou. But the reason Fu Heng infuriated her and me so much is because he gave up so early. She was ready to go to the end with him and face any punishment and his choice made it clear that he was not. Also I love Xian. She’s such a satisfying villain because she’s vengeful and intelligent but not small minded and petty. A worth adversary
The problem is they made a love story that didn't happen in history to add cool drama But then they had to make it accurate on some level😅. Her and her perfect boyfriend couldn't be together because their relationship never existed.
tbh i can understand why chun kept the maid around. like yes objectively u should fire her but chun is stuck in the palace for literally the rest of her life, she doesn't even remember her hometown dialect anymore, and the maid is the only one who's known her since before she married the emperor and is the one person she spends the most time with. shes really emotionally attached.
Chun never made a lot of sense to me. You'd think she would have been like, yeah, ok, this maid is a little low ranking but she's also very clever, loyal AF. If she was in love with him and wants him to be happy. Yeah, this is a low point re. the emperor for me. Like, come on dude, at least admit it. She was listening, though. At least to begin with. Oh yeah, I love Xian, she's on it. Chun is going to regret playing games with her.
I feel bad to say that I kinda liked yingluo x the emperor because I knew before watching that they become a thing. Lol it was because during the pandemic i found in Netflix The story of Yingluo’s daughter and I loved yingluo even tho she is not the main character there. Liked I didn’t understand many things because I didn’t knew I was watching a sequel but it was great so later I found out yanxi was actually a drama and I watched all in like 2 days lol I wished things were different for yingluo but I guess here fate was this life
Don't feel bad, I like them too! Out of all the men in the drama, the emperor is the only one matching her 4D chess brain and he's the only one as stubborn as she is. They're well-matched!
It's so funny that you watched the sequel first! And yes, based on the way they are with each other as they get older, I can more than see why you like them. They're really sweet together, and (I think) have grown to love each other deeply
Then my empress ❤ she has been in a coma but wakes up and calls out the BS right away..the way she asks the emperor how he can separate her brother from his beloved one 💔she’s so unselfish she doesn’t even cry for her lost child or the fact she can’t walk shes depressed that the two people she loves most can’t marry and be happy together..
This is why I still hate the Emperor. He's a good ruler but a horrible husband. He abuses his power to make Ying Luo’s life miserable just because she doesn't love him and he wants her to himself. Then when she actually becomes his consort later he doubts her and makes her suffer the consequences of his insecurities. He also doubts her love because he FORCED her this much. Their banter is entertaining and all but I hate them as a romantic pairring. And no one CAN or WILL blame the Emperor for his actions because its a literal crim since the Son of Heaven can never be wrong.

How after all of this pain caused, he still insists on making things difficult by constantly mistrusting her and making her life even harder. And I think you hit the nail on the head- he can't manage to convince himself that YL truly loves him when really, she's never had much of a choice in this whole thing.

It sucks because he has a great personality but he’s a jerk 😭 I can’t let how childish and selfish he acts slide but I’ve always believed YL comes to love the emperor but wasn’t IN LOVE with him like FH

Why doesn't the emperor just give the order right away (making her as Harem lady) if he's really infatuated to Yingluo... Always deceiving himself, saying childish thing.. is he a teenager going through puberty or something
because he is getting the kicks out of her unwillingness. he won't admit it, or course, but it's new and strange to him. his bed is the ultimate social lift, every woman he knows either has or would climb into it at willingly, even though he knows most of them have no interest in him as a person and are only doing it because they and/or their families want power and money. yingluo is uninterested in that, so he fundamentally can't understand what's her deal and what she wants because in his experience every woman ultimately wants that. she won't be interesting and attractive to him if he just forces her and she can't do what she wants anymore so he can watch and wonder what the hell is up with this girl.
@@ellie.starsky We see exactly this play out in the drama, too, in a later scene. Emperor wants Yingluo, Yingluo pretends to want him as well, and he immediately loses interest because she's no longer an anomaly; she just became like every other girl and woman he's ever encountered.

Look, YL is the one being waaaaay too inflexible here. How could Fuheng just do nothing and let her get severely punished if not out right killed. And despite her accusations, we all know YL would have also done something, and if that something was to marry someone else, she would have done it as a sacrifice to save Fuheng. He is a man of action, not as clever as she is but in this instance I do not think what he did was wrong, because he knew this would save her and the Empress was in no position to help, there was no backup plan. He has no way of knowing how far the Emperor is willing to go, I do not think he knows the Emperor wants YL for himself. I think this was a big mistake attributed to her immaturity, but I'm not sure growth and thinking back on this stance ever gets addressed in this light....oh, thank goodness, you agree with me. I am typing in the middle of your video. Usually the popular opinion I see, is to condemn Fuheng for this.

I spent some time trying to understand the argument on the other said, and like I said, I get it, but really I don't think it's fair that FH is getting the bulk of the blame while the man who orchestrated this terrible situation gets understanding because he "doesn't know how to express he likes her" :/

Ughhhh I SHUDDER to think how this would have played out with RY's emperor! The bar is so low for the emperors in general that honestly, the way he handled this is considered good. I mean, it's still bad but compared to RuYi, he is an angel 😇
I don't understand what kind of argument is with "taking off her choices" when it's about a literal death threat. Fuheng doesn't know about her plot armor, also he has no idea if the emperor was serious about that. Yingluo is a palace maid, and not even a high-ranked one, she might be very lucky and quick-witted, but still she has limited power over her life. In the real world she would be dead long ago, because if a person of power wants someone dead, he will do that with a clap of a finger, and no other fancy explanation from Yingluo, or appellation to rules or morality will suffice, because who really cares? Fuheng thinks that he lives in the real world, and not in the fictional world of rainbows and ponies, so he thinks that if he waits one more second, she will be dead. And really, like Yingluo doesnt know that if she dies, Fuheng, as well as all her supporters and her beloved Emperess will live his whole life with the guilt of not saving her - and she still is willing to die egosistically.
I mean .. we pretty much have the same opinion here so it might be better to check out some of the comments from people who actually do blame FH for this lol In any case, let me explain what I mean by 'taking away her choices'. The emperor wants her to admit fault, and gives her several opportunities to do so before locking her up. YL will not even attempt that so it's clear that she's made her choice. She'd rather die than give up on their relationship. It might be a crazy decision to some, but it is her decision. If FuHeng knows this, and then still decides to go over her head, then he is in a sense taking way her choices. She chose death, and be he decided "Nope. I won't allow it."
