Your lucky to have a spare 2 wheel drive. I can remember when the farm scraper tractor went down and I had to scrape with a 4wd 7610, fine for the yard and it would just make the turn into the two narrowest cubicle passages using the independent brakes! The problem with it was the tires rubbed the sides of the cubicle passage throwing muck up onto the beds. I had to scrape the beds of after scraping the passage and was glad when things were back to normal. People throw scorn on the old scraper tractors most farms have but they are nimble and small for getting into the tight cubicles and a vital tool on the farm no matter how old or shit covered!

+Paul F I made a 4 ft wide squeegee out of round baler belt for the few times the skidloader is down. It works but slower. There's a concrete grate & 10,000 gallon holding tank under the center lane of the freestall building, then it's pumped daily to the big pit. The 2 parlor holding pen exit walks by the footbaths get froze up hard here in mn even though 400 cows are milked 4 times/day so it's going to be chisel/shovel time in a few weeks. Every fall we have to pull up that grate and backhoe out the sand that didn't get agitated/pumped and i get the unpleasant job of climbing down a ladder to get anything that's been dropped down there.
@thefunkyfarmer
@thefunkyfarmer 8 лет назад
+Paul F yes we are lucky to have the 265. I was thinking we might sell it but now we've used it for this i think we will hang onto it, especially as it's not loosing any money at it's age. You are right about these old scraper tractors, worth their weight in gold for the job they do
@MrPaul1f
@MrPaul1f 8 лет назад
Jason, that makes sense. I don't envy you the cold weather one bit. Geographically I live fairly close Richard (funky Farrmer) it's really rare we get snow or any prolonged Cold spells as we are close to the Severn Estuary. You have to be careful going bellow the level of the grating (we call them slats) as there can be a build up of methane gases. Every year I seem to hear of a fatality on a farm from this.
@MrPaul1f

Richard, makes Sense that 265 has years of life left in it yet and will only gain in value

Thank you, Richard. Now that was a video of skillz and moooo-vie magic (couldn't help myself there!). Multiple cams, multiple angles, and even look-alike stunt doubles thrown in for extra scene footage. Random characters placed throughout to add authenticity. MOOOre please, and thanx. :-D That Massey just started right up as if it hadn't been ignored for too long. It's going to make the 135 jealous when it returns as it seems to be filling in just fine.

Good tractor for scraping the yards. Power steering. sealed brakes, cab. I would have thought you would have chopped the straw as you seem to have a lot of waste. Silage looks good. Have you thought about a lagoon maximize the nutritional value of the slurry.
@thefunkyfarmer
@thefunkyfarmer 8 лет назад
+Graham Roberts we don't really waste that much straw, i hand scrape the cubicles before i use the tractor, any straw with muck on it gets pulled off. I would like a logoon but we don't have the money to build one at the moment and the way the milk price is now i'm scared to spend anything

When my 135 needed an engine rebuild we had to put the scraper on to the MF 390T (4 wd ), nowhere near as handy for the job. 135s are the Queens of scraper tractors, I'm 46 and the 135 is 2 years older than me, I get she'll still be working when I'm long gone!

Do you do much damage to your land when spreading the slurry? It's a nice simple system you have. We had similar years ago but the Nitrates was the death knell of it for us. How are you guys coping with the current depressed milk prices? It does feel gloomy but we have to stay upbeat I guess.
@thefunkyfarmer
@thefunkyfarmer 8 лет назад
+einn32 Its not ideal but we side unload in a heap when its too wet to go on the land. Ideally we would put in a store but the way things are at the moment it's too risky for us to spend any money.We are putting a read bed dirty water system in at some point this spring though (grant funded). Things are pretty gloomy at the moment, i just hope we can hold on till things improve (whenever that is?!)
@einn32
@einn32 8 лет назад
+thefunkyfarmer I forgot that...I've seen it in another video! I used to clean the cow yard with a 135 also. Wet weather made it a nightmare as slurry flows everywhere. Twice a day cleaning probably makes easier handling. I wish I knew when milk price would turn positive!

What do u do with the slurry in the spreader during the slurry ban? I'm from Northern Ireland and I have never seen that System being used we just use dung hills
@thefunkyfarmer
@thefunkyfarmer 8 лет назад
+Christopher McCracken we don't have a slurry ban here. But we do side unload it into a heap when we can't get on the ground
@christophermccracken3274
@christophermccracken3274 8 лет назад
+thefunkyfarmer the slurry ban is not to bad over here the grounds alway to wet during the ban. We have an old type 290 with that same lay out but see would not take the same abuse as the 148/135 the Flexy cab on your 135 will not rust as quick as the 265 will as 290 cab as bad rust problems
@thefunkyfarmer
@thefunkyfarmer 8 лет назад
+Christopher McCracken i'm glad to get the 135 back, i didn't like using the 265 in the muck as it had been kept clean for a long time. There is a bit of rust in the cab but not too bad
@christophermccracken3274
@christophermccracken3274 8 лет назад
+thefunkyfarmer are 290 has a fork lift on the back and we adapted a shear grab to block cut the silage out of the clamp she has good power for that but on the scrapper she's just to big and sluggish. I know what u mean about 135 is just off the line no prob and is light enough to side brake.
