Thank you so much for this! I now have a new place to find yarn. I’m blind, and you’re one of the few people who reviews yarn that talks not just about the color, but the texture and how the yarn feels when you work with it in detail. Thank you so much.
Do you have any tips for crocheting by feel alone? I’ve been having eye problems and haven’t been able to crochet for 8 months and I miss it so much! If you have any advice I’d be extremely grateful
@@Clairelaferret from what I gather from people who touch crochet (while doing other things) using a slightly larger hook helps you feel the stitches. (ie using a 5.5mm vs a 5mm hook) It takes practice, but using fibers you're familiar with is a great way to start. Hopefully this can help you. ♥
I stumbled across the Upcycle Alpaca when it first became available and only paid $4.99. When I realized the price was going to double, I purchased every color in sport and worsted. I absolutely LOVE ❤️ this yarn!!!!
Thanks for another wonderful yarn review! While my selections are hindered due to wool allergy, I look forward to your reviews of all types of yarn. Thank you for being honest. 😊
The Heatherly Worstwd caught my eye the most. As always, I love these yarn snob reviews. It helps me tremendously looking for yarn for specific projects. Thank you again, Toni.❤
I knitted a WWII watch cap from the Upcycle Alpaca and it's fantastic. Too warm for the climate here, so it probably won't get worn more than a few days a year, but very nice for gifts for my northern family. I am midway through a pullover sweater in Heatherly, and I absolutely love this yarn. I was looking for something nice but less warm than 100% wool, and decided to try it out. It looks great and it's really enjoyable to work with. I had to frog and reknit several inches and, even on the third or fourth go-round, the yarn held up really well. I know I'm talking about knitting here, but I'm a crocheter, too, and I'd use either of them to crochet with--Heatherly especially for any garment for children.
♥️ thank you for the reviews. Unfortunately I had to click off because of the background music. It's a anxiety-producing situation for me when people talk over background music for a long time. It's okay in small bits. But I do appreciate the reviews and gave you a thumbs up. I just wanted you to consider reducing the amount of background music so I thought I'd leave this comment. You can delete it. I just want to let you know. ♥️
Elixir looks like a great yarn to do mosaic crochet with. The stitches are simple, but I feel like the heather look would pop in the colorwork patterns
the website does include a disclaimer about heatherly worsted's care instructions! it must be new since the review was filmed. the item description says, "Note: Our mill recommends handwashing and air drying to preserve heirloom baby items, but Heatherly can be machine washed and dried without felting or shrinkage."
When I was researching colors and textures for my temperature blanket this year I came across Heatherly. We Crochet had the 12 color packs discounted and i thought the colors were so beautiful I bought the color pack and used that pallet as my granny square temperature blanket. It is a pleasure to work with, the colors are gorgeous and the texture is a joy to the hand. Thank you for reviewing We Crochet yarns they are my favorite place to buy yarn.
Brava Tweed is one of my favorites! I'm crocheting a sweater in it and I'm loving it. I also like Brava stripes for making hats on my knitting machine. I also love Heatherly! It is sooo lovely working with it. Mind you, I'd purchased it for a knit project, so I haven't used it yet. The muted colors just called to me for a long lasting wearable.
What I have always loved about your reviews is you stopping to show what it looks like stitched up, and you don't hold back on your own opinion. You are one of the few reviewers/creators that I truly trust when you give a recommendation. All that said lol, I loved the Heatherly worsted and Upcycled Alpaca. I love that both are more soft in color and that the Upcycled is muted. So I plan on buying both when I have funds again.
Watch out for the scammers everyone! I just got a scam comment in response to my comment here telling me I've won something and to contact them. DO NOT RESPOND TO THESE GUYS! And report them to RU-vid! If anyone tells you you've won something in comments, it's a SCAM!
Tell me why I felt bad for the linen in Elixir. I know it's a yarn and this is a review video and I always love your honestly. I just started feeling bad for him like he didn't mean to fray
You hooked me when you said I didn’t need pants! I’m in! Subscribed and ordered ( hope you earn from it 😊) some of the Heatherly Worsted! Thank you! I’m excited to get it in my hands!
I'm definitely excited to try Heatherly! Upcycle Alpaca would definitely have me skeptical at first too, but based on how you described the texture, I think I would really like working something up with it. Personally I love the color palette, but agree there's ALWAYS room for more 😂
I just started BOTM and I'm impressed. I usually read on-line or audio but, I also love the feel of a book. I'm reading The London Seance Society. It's REALLY good so far. Thank you for this podcast. I am so grateful for your reviews. Happy hooking!
I love your video's Toni! You are a wealth of knowledge! You really have helped me with crochet and Tunisian crochet, i love tunisian , but even with your book, i'm still struggling. However, i'm going to be at the colour theory workshop n the 18th. Great price for your amazing teaching. I'm really looking forward to it!
First I want to say you are a GREAT salesperson!! Professional delivery. The number one thing I love about the review is your suggestion for a project to start with that particular yarn. Heatherly looks amazing. I want to buy a hank of that Alla Prima and just use it as a pillow 😂
The Mill Hose Super Bulky is definitely looking appealing...I like to make projects to donate in the winter, so maybe I'll pick some of this up so I can make more projects! The Brava Tweed looks really appealing, too. Right now, I'm working on a big shawl in Wool of the Andes Superwash, and I'm loving it so far. PS: Thank you for your Hue Loco Cozy in Colorado recommendation. I got some in Merino Sock, and I'm making ANOTHER AdventUrous scarf. My first was in Skein tones, and I've really fallen in love with the simple pattern with a big payoff!
By the way - may have just bought a shitton of yarn via your recommendations. ...what? I needed yarn to make donation projects! (No I didn't. That's a lie. My two OVERFLOWING buckets of yarn would like to have an intervention with me now . . .)
Love your reviews. I get so tempted but… being in Canada with a dollar only worth about 72¢ it makes for quite expensive yarn and the shipping is generally over $20. Makes my choices much easier to see your opinion first. Thanks! ❤
OMg, your beautiful jumper, your head scarf, your manicure… You look absolutely stunning (beautiful background too). Fantastic Review as always. I am really tickled by that upcycled alpaca..I am going to see if I can find sameting like that here. Love from Japan.
Oh Gurl! If I even tried 3 cups a day only, you would probably see me being arrested having gone insane after the caffeine deprived migraine kicked in and my youngest son got home from school that day! 🤣🤣☕☕ Just kidding, I hope. I mean, I know the migraine is for real, been there done that. Anyway. I bought a couple of We Crochet's mystery boxes that they had recently and in those boxes were the upcycled alpaca and the heatherly yearn, along with some others. I fell in love with both of those yarns. I ordered more Heatherly to make your Punch party shawl and then bought even more to make my cousin a blanket for her new baby due in May. And with all the Alpaca I got, I am thinking of making Bronwyn, but I still need to finish the one I had started in my favorite green yarns. 🤷🏼♀️ I like to start a lot of projects. Yes, I do have finished projects, I just don't have any decent photos of them.
Definitely going to check these out! Fellow stitchers... I'm thinking of starting my very first blanket project. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to do squares and connect them or just go row by row by row. Any suggestions for the best yarn or hooks for blankets specifically?
I wonder if Elixir is WeCrochet's attempt at a Pearl Soho Linen Quill dupe? FWIW, I also find Linen Quill a bit rustic and scratchy, but it definitely softens up quite a bit after blocking.
Love your channel! Question: a friend recently gave me a beautiful single skein of MSC DK yarn and I'm not sure what to make with just a single skein of 317 yards. Are you up to the challenge of making a video on being resourceful with just a single skein?😂 I know it has a ton of potential but its just been sitting in storage until I can crack this dilemma
Hi! Love your yarn snob reviews! And you have , like always , inspired me to get out of my slump n try to crochet sumthing! .Heeeeey, You don't have a metal furls you'd like to part with do you!? I am super upset I have not been able to get a metal furls streamline, I have been trying since they came out. Do u happen to know anywhere I could get one, or are they sold exclusively only at Furls?? Thanks again for all that you do! God bless have a good week!
I can't wait to get back to America and load up my baggage with more yarn again!!! I brought back over 180$ worth of yarn last and and regretted nothing!
I love your enthusiasm for your work! You're so knowledgeable and your voice is so soothing. I gotta say tho, the Alla Prima would be the 1 star for me. I'm not wild about the style of yarn & it's totally impractical unless you want to make a wall hanging or something. I was wondering tho, do you think the yarn you said is better for knitting might be better for a Tunisian crochet project? Thank you again for your outstanding content
Toni, you do come across as a best friend and I love that! I have an idea for future videos that I haven't seen. In Florida every church, library and yarn shop seem to have a crochet group, however, it is March and it's 87 degrees outside. Do you have any suggestions for crocheting during hot , hot weather? The rest of the states will catch up to our weather soon and we don't want to put our needles down,. I would love a light weight boomerang scarf and other light weight projects.. Suggestions on yarns and hook size would be appreciated so much. Thanks for considering us.
I just love you to bits, Toni. You bring such love and light to the world. I cracked up at the "I need a cocktail after crocheting with this yarn". I too found that yarn to be questionable. I love linen, but that was just horrible.
I knitted my husband a cabled vest this past winter with the Upcycle Alpaca. When it first arrived I wasn't super impressed. Then I started knitting with it and really enjoyed it!
Toni my cousin and I just had this exact conversation about an actual book verses audio , while each are good there is nothing like turning pages and that fresh off the press smell of a book . While discussing books we’ve read I’ve noticed that with audio some miss little tidbits because of distractions around them . For me I’m a page turner .
I would like to know how to choose a good yarn for color pooling/color planning? What is the best? What is the easiest? Is there beginner frendly yarn for it?
Love my Brava in all weights! And the price beats anothet yarn that feels much the same, same amount in skein, at twice the price, because this latter has a lot of brand hype
I love your videos. I have never heard if we crochet before. If I had the money, I would go in line to see about maybe getting some of their yarn but I don’t.
Thank you for your review! I look forward to these. I really want to try the Heatherly and I pray it works well in the washing machine. On another note, I am terrible with trying to figure out which colors to use for any project so I am really interested in your class on March 18!
Ladies and gentleman…HER! aka Toni! I mean come on! Toni’s yarn reviews are so fantastic. Every single base is covered and then there is still so much more. Elixir is the only yarn out of that bunch I don’t care to try. I’ve had my eyes on heatherly for a while now so I think that might be the first of this bunch I try, but I have to admit that the bulky roving merino looked so amazing, that swatch looked like a pillow! However, that long cardigan pattern of yours is absolutely calling my name, so I might need to pick up the tweed in order to make it. I’ve got some important decisions to make! 🙏💕
Great video! I was curious about trying out some brava worsted and I’m definitely going to now! And I’m DYING to get my hands on some Heatherly but I mostly do blankets and I’m concerned about the care instructions 😬
Glad you enjoyed the video! Every Brava yarn I've tried has been great, so you can't go wrong there. Heatherly is too good to pass up - try ordering one skein, make a big swatch and launder it on cold settings. My guess is, it'll hold up just fine. It is mainly acrylic.
I would love to see you do a mini review of the new spring yarns from Joann! I'm really interested to see what other people think of them. Especially since a lot of them are lighter weights, and are very affordable for how much yarn you're getting per skein. I'm especially interested in other thoughts on Big Twist Panorama, it's very soft but it keeps un-twisting itself while I work with it. So I would love to hear your thoughts on it!
I've been looking at Heatherly and I remember reading on the site that the mill recommends handwash only but WeCrochet thinks machine wash is fine. 🤷🏻♀️ In any case, I'm thinking of using it for a temperature blanket of my niece's first year of life so I'm happy to hear you like it!
I love Upcycle. The worsted is more like a heavy DK, though. I made hats and cowls (both knit and crochet) when it first came out. I really want to try Heatherly, next. Thanks!
Sorry...this is completely unrelated to your video, but I recently heard about color pooling in crochet. I've watched a couple videos but I would love to see what you could add to the topic. Your videos are always so much more clear and easy to follow than others, and if this isn't a technique you already know I would enjoy watching you learn the process too!
I bought the spring and winter pallet bundles of Heavenly worsted in January. LOVE the feel of it. I might just try knitting with it and make a simple blanket. Also, Brava Worsted tweed is the BOMB! I hope they come out with more colors; I ❤ anything tweed.
I tried out Upcyle for Marly Bird's yearly Turkey Trot MAL and loved it so much I went back and stocked up while it was on sale. It feels wonderful and I love the sustainability aspect. Brava is my go to acrylic yarn but I haven't tried its tweed version yet. Elixer would probably make a lovely lace shawl but I'm not big on lace shawls so I'll probably skip that one. You def grabbed my attention with Heatherly, I'll have to give that one a try.
Thank you Toni. I wonder what you would say about Afrique yarns. Just made two totally different tanks with their yarns and I love them. Texture is the name of that cotton game!
So I love that last yarn very much! Reminds me of hedgehog, potluck #6 it really soft and nice. Costly but I like. I will definitely check out that one you show us. Thanks for your report on the yarn. ❤️🧶🧶
Brava Tweed caught my interest. Think I’ll try it with the pattern you suggested. Thanks so much for your honest reviews…until I found you on RU-vid I was stuck on what yarns to use. You’re the best and such an inspiration to me!!
