I love the seasonal palette display! What a great way to bring a little bit of spontaneous joy! Thank you for taking the time to show us around. It was lovely to watch while knitting this evening and eating cake. No shame in cake - yarn or chocolate. 😂
Wow, I would be overwhelmed with that much yarn! So many pretty skeins in your stash! I have a lot of yarn too, but everything (including scraps) is in one display cabinet. Sweater quantities, blocking mats and project bags are in the bottom where there are no glass doors, and the nicer skeins, the yarn winder and pretty things are in the top part, visible for everyone to enjoy 😍 Small things are in one of the six drawers across the middle of the cabinet. I do need a Christmas stash though 😍
The Hedgehog Fiber recycling tip was invaluable.Thank you! I have a baggie that I stick all my ends into and have been wondering what to do with it. Now I know.
The cake cart of shame 😂 I felt that lol. I am a lover of baskets/boxes too! And I love to make seasonal color palettes and pull out the yarn I think I might use over the next few months. It helps me know what is inspiring me right now so if I need a new project, I don’t get overwhelmed by the options in my entire yarn stash!
This was great! Since I've been watching from the beginning, I knew you bought yarn before leaving Germany, but I had no idea of how big your actual stash is. (Then again, I had no idea how big mine was until I started putting it in my ravelry stash). I like the way you organized your stash. I have a set of the 1*3 cubbys with inserts that I use. I just separately yarn weight and take the inserts out as needed to expand the amount of storage. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to seeing more tours!
I so enjoyed seeing your stash and stash storage, Kristen. It’s lovely to be able to set it up “permanently” in boxes, cubbies and baskets. Mine is currently stored in baskets on a bookshelf, in a chest of drawers solely used for yarn and a wardrobe. Oh, I also have storage drawers in my bed base so there’s some yarn stored there too.
I could be wrong, but your broken yarn swift looks modern. There are small triangular wedges at the far ends of the accordion arms that are currently tucked in. Try using a thin pencil or something to pull out the tucked in wedges. I use these wedges to hold yarn when I'm winding my hanks. Also, thank you for showing your spinning fiber collection (so tiny! 😭). I love watching these videos and seeing what other artists collect, use, and draw inspiration from.
You might be right! I have no idea is the swift is modern or antique, but I think it is cure. There is one of the arms that is broken though, so I am unsure how usable it will be and like it as a little decor! I am glad you like seeing the collection :)
This was a wonderful tour Kristen!! I have shelves and dressers full of yarn, but not as organized as you! This makes me want to spend some time organizing! Thank you so much for sharing!😊🧶😊
One thing you didn’t cover… your project bag collection 😬 Although possibly they’re all in use. Doesn’t surprise me in the least that you’re so organised, however. Your life seems so busy with family, work, home, crafting, and the podcasting, and your house/office/craft room so under control. I am hoping to move house this year, so haven’t organised much storage. Yarn is in pillow cases/pillow slips as I’ve so many that are never used. Yarn is bagged into sets in each of these with a note saying what I was planning to make and the date I made that plan. That way, I can either get on with it when I’ve finished a project, or change my mind. There’s a great deal to use up. Thanks for the tour. Loved it.
This video was already so long, I held off Notions for another video 😅 all my bags are not in use! I think your organization sounds like it's working for now, especially if you are planning to move this year!
Haha! I so hear you on getting Regia and Opal in Germany. My parents are coming in about a month and I "placed an order" with my Mom LOL I know 3 skeins she's bringing, we'll see if I get a bit more. It's really much more cost effective to get it there. I cringe when I see the prices here and usually decide to just get hand dyed for a few dollars more -.-
I organize my yarn by weight. I store them in ziplock bags int the kitchen where se have a big unit with drawers (not all of them are yarn, only 8 out of 32. I’m working on getting it to 4 drawers or so. Currently i have 75 skeins of yarn, 5 sweater quantities and the rest is less than that.
My yarn is stored in vintage suitcases. By yarn content and weight. While I have clearly defined suitcases for each kind of yarn that could be used with any other within that suitcase, I also have a large case that stays in view where all the odds and pieces go which I like to challenge myself to use regularly, or donate from if enough years have passed that it is clear I don't want to use it.
