Just bought this camera and this is my first. Bought it on 'garage sale', looked nice and now I have a new hobby. Thx for the vid! Beginning to understand camera's and this vid is very helpfull.
Just bought a beautiful example of this camera, with working meter, nice clear rangefinder patch, complete with beautiful case, for all of $22. Can't wait to shoot a test roll.
Hey man I just found your channel and I love it! Amazing content and in-depth reviews. The way you explain in very clear and easy to follow! Great work, Cheers!
One additional tip regarding the light meter: Selenium "wears out" when constantly exposed to light, so it's a good idea to keep the metering screen covered (e.g. by the leather case most of these cameras came with). My Voigtländer for instance lost 1½ f-stops of sensitivity over time due to unprotected shelf display abuse. Is this shutter a Seiko make? And do you first set the speed, then charge it, like with most leaf shutters of these good old days, or is it the other way around? Usually I don't suffer from GAS, but this little Yashica gem is pretty interesting. I like the concept of having the light meter reading in the viewfinder. Thank you for presenting it, David.
Really appreciate the video! It's so thorough and helpful! When you take this camera out, what kind of case/protection would you recommend? I have one on the way without a case...
Thank you! I honestly don't use cases with cameras. I keep them on a strap and then I'm mindful not to bang them into things. Cases are kind of a pain.
Great work as usual. Being left eye dominant, I find rangefinders difficult to use for its intended advantage: seeing the environment. I tried forcing myself to frame thru my right, but gave up after 3 weeks. Is there a trick I missed?
Thank you! Being left-eye dominant is just card with cameras. The only thing I can thing of would be an eyepiece cover. Were it me, I'd mock it up first with a 127 film tube (if available, black 35mm or 120 if not, though the diameters on the latter will be a bit large) and cut the end(s) off to make it a tube. Then with some blue tack on one end, stick it on the camera and see if the distance and the darkness of the tube help any. If so, an eBay-special $3 eyecup could provide an eye-safe end to a more permanent solution.
Hi! Hopefully you'll see this. I recently bought one of these, and the diaphragm is stuck and won't open. Any tips on how to make it work? It's driving me insane
@@pausantellan I don't have good news, unfortunately. That's going to require a professional repair. There's a photography forum called Photrio and someone there might know who can still fix these.
I've recently seen a lynx 5000 in a vintage store, Everything works except the focus ring just spins 360 ° without focusing. Is there some sort of anchor screw that could be missing because I did see a little screw hole
There are a few potential issues. One could be a missing set screw, or multiple set screws, and that would be relatively easy to fix in you can line up the ring properly and find replacement screws. Other issues could be related to the focusing mechanism's internals, and those would be hard to fix. My best guess is that it's a set screw, but I'm not sure how to fix it on that model.
hello, I tried to take a photo using the self timer on this camera and now the shutter is stuck i can advance the film but the shutter leaf from the lens side is stuck is this easy to fix or is it a big issue?
Muito agradável! Se você está no Brasil, certamente haverá bons reparadores de câmeras lá. Não sei quanto a Portugal, mas outros países da UE, como a Alemanha, certamente terão opções de reparadores.
