It's the opposite. He's legit mad and the smile is just for show. Watch it again, it's not genuine smile at all. It's a smile of someone s***ing on something but who smiles for half a second just to not seem like too much of an ogre about it. But I love Yasser anyway regardless of he thinks about Hikaru's extracurricular activities.

I think there's some envy there too. Because Hikaru is a stronger player than Yasser was, and had a real chance to win the Candidates or at least get 2nd place.

@@JCW86 nah you completely misread it. over his many years of commentating, you'll never find a time that Yasser has been envious of other chess players' success. he's known hikaru for decades and genuinely wants the best for him. not to mention he has such a long and illustrious career himself. he's qualified for a few candidates, been a second for a few world championship matches, reached world #3, and discovered a famous variation of the Pirc Defense to name a few things

Yes. But it's kind of hypocritical from Kasparov to mind Anglification of someones name, when he is the one that [unofficially] changed his own name from Gary (Garik) to Garry. But Kasparov is a well know know Hypocrite, so nothing new here.

@@dmfaccount1272 Ironically, by setting his priority to streaming, he got better in the classical chess too, lol. If u watched this video, theres a part where he said; before he felt the pressure kept increasing as he played the tourney rounds. But now he didnt anymore and that improved his play on the candidates i think. Theres many cases where u got better with a "nothing to lose" mindset, as Hikaru treated the candidates as such.

Thats the thing. They totally get it and dont think they dont but theres a certain atmosphere in chess since forever and its being serious. Like VERY serious to an extent that theres a dont bother me this is super serious moment in time for me "as a candidate" and here you are a chad just taking the candidates like its any other tournament. See how Yasser states its thee most important moment in Hikaru's chess life and sure it MIGHT be but thats for Yassers world view and how Hikaru approaches events in his life is totally up to him and god forbid he makes World Championships like any other tournament he plays in is a crime for Yasser. Then again i do understand where Yasser is coming from since theres a theme and please just follow the theme for traditions sake "i get it" but i still stand with Hikaru on how he approaches events in his life "as indifferent as he can possibly be" i respect that.

Agreed. Love Hikaru who's videos really got me into Chess during lockdown but hard to forget how the Candidates ended for him... I guess this video is his way of trying to prove to us and probably himself that it didn't really matter.

Different generation, but the theory has not changed. Blitz hurts your classical game. Why? Shortens the time span when you need to take critical decisions. I am not saying never play it, but there is a time and place for everything isn't there? Perhaps in the middle of the Candidates tournament is not the best time to do it. That is Yasser's point.

Most thought Hikaru streaming during the candidates was crazy. It's one of the biggest opportunities in a chess players career. I do think that Hikaru taking it a little less seriously might have actually improved his performance.

@@Rakkoonn to be honest I dont think Hikaru actually doesn’t care about the tournament maybe its started off that way during the grand prix but it would hurt his image as a chess player so much if he were to get bad results in these tournaments especially the candidates. For me personally the one reason i watch Hikaru is because hes the best chess player streaming but when it comes to personality I’d much rather watch eric rosen or hansen

Playing worse players in a blitz format is not really preparation. I'm not knocking him for doing it - it's his life and he should do what he feels is right. But Titled Tuesday is no preparation for playing classical against the best in the world.

@@RTAC_1234 It is true. However, it is still playing chess. Other people have not looked at a board and just take nothing but rest. I don't see the harm in either one. I didn't quite mean prep as in openings and strategy (some stuff you literally could not play or you would run out of time), but more so prep in preparing/relaxing for the next day.

@@PHeMoX I can certainly see your argument that it ultimately does no harm, and I wouldn't disagree with that. The thing that let Naka down wasn't prep anyway - he just isn't solid enough with black.
