Yaw Yan has a lot of haters because, as a relatively young hybrid art, it doesn't have the romantic backstories that older martial arts have. But the proof is in the ring.
Looks very interesting. A hybrid between the prodding and grounded footwork of muay thai with strikes more akin to taekwondo and Karate, and moments of slick footwork. Luckily a gym nearby that specializes on that - though I'm not particularly sure this 5 foot self with the shortest shins in the world can make any use of the kicks.
I actually train in Yaw Yan as of right now and my coach said it's like a Karate based kickboxing with a mix of Muay Thai and Arnis techniques. We have a technique called Bolo punches where we make our forearms and fists our unarmed version of an Arnis stick. So essentially our grandmaster Napoleon Fernandez developed this system in the 70s where he took elements of the martial arts he learned like JKD, Karate, kickboxing etc. and made his own hybrid version. He said that Yaw Yan is made for the build of us Filipinos cus we're short but agile and flexible so that's how it came to be.
@@tkaid5247 and it's not sanda and sikaran taekwondo combined, yaw Yan is mix with kickboxing and karate, since kickboxing adapted the art of Muay Thai,Yaw Yan and Muay Thai have similarities
Kung hindi ako nagkamali iyung founder ng Yaw Yan ay dating kickboxer in the sense na he was a natural kicker, not puncher, as his natural tendency is to kick.
Side kick, front kick, back kick at roundhouse kick.
First of all its not a Kung Fu. It is Yaw-Yan. The goal of that drill is for the practitioner to be groom him for a sparring and later on to a real fight.
THAT is a DRILL CALLED "BIGAYAN"- GIVE OR TAKE- THE PURPOSE OF THE DRILL IS TO IMPROVE REACTION TIME- SPEED/ACCURACY KICKING-STAMINA DRILL FOR KICKS THATS WHY YOU CAN ONLY SEE THEM USE KICKS, THERES A DIFFERENT DRILL FOR YAW YAN HAND TO HAND TECHNIQUES- (MIX OF BASIC BOXING+ UNARMED VARIATOR OF BOLO PUNCHES-ARNIS HAND STRIKES AND ELBOW AND KNEE.. THAT DRILL IS ONLY FOR KICKS THAT IS WHY
@@bongdonkey Yes, the hand strikes are variation of arnis strikes, just imagine the same movement with your hands without holding stick, mostly different variation of hammer fist strikes, added to the basic jab+cross-upprcut-hook punches
Actually those long range attacks and kick and low guard are adapted by yaw Yan and originated in Muay Thai because yaw Yan is a mix of kick boxing and karate and kickboxing adapted the art of Muay Thai that's why they have similar kicks to Muay Thai
Justinian S yasss yaw yan is quite similar to muay thai Yes, there's also clinching but the one in the vid is only bigayan or its like sparring but only kicks and you dont hit the opponent (sarreh for my English😂✌) samting layk dat
@@dulcesy9030 actually Yan yaw was mix of kickboxing and karate it came from a Thai who migrated in the Philippines and make his own gym and call it Yan yaw,Yan yaw and Muay Thai have similarities
