Posted right before Mitch remembered. We have had a demon dragon: Malfegor. 2BBRR for a 6/6 with flying and on ETB discard your hand, each opponent sacrifices a creature for each card discarded this way.

For consistency add a chatter fang, squirrel general into the deck to make you sacrifice fodder every time you create those treasures

Hey man it's not aptitude, it's the way your viewed. Also this is a pretty rad commander. I like to have the image of throwing goblin tokens at the opponents, then picking up coins from the ground.

Treasure is always going to make for a powerful and popular card.

Korvold’s girlfriend seems pretty interesting, giving you mana instead of card draw. Definitely worth a look see.

Mazerick, Kraul Deathpriest. All creatures you control get bigger for each creature you sacrifice. Sac a useless 1/1 token, deal a tiny 1 damage, then put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control and get three treasure tokens. Sac the tokens, creatures you control get another 3 counters. Then the next creature you sac is at least a 4/4.

Gotta say thanks for posting these videos on the new commanders. A few of them I was struggling to comprehend. It's nice to have someone explain them to me in small words.

Juri would be awesome for this commander too! Flinging it not just once but twice in one sac

Jarad, Golgari Lichlord would be great for the 99. The three treasure you get from the end step can go right into Jarad's sacrifice to do the same thing but to ALL the oppentents' faces.

I like that with Acedemy Manufacturer, you get 9 total Artefacts each of your end steps. Definitely not abusable 😅

You went for big creatures, but I first thought of doing the end step repeatedly with reliable cheap token generation. Like Ant Queen. Or I think there's an enchantment or two that gives 0 mana zombies each turn. Just to get a ton of treasure to cast something huge. Another option would be to stack the deck with things that don't stay dead, like Gravecrawler and most phoenix.

Varolz could be good in this deck too. After you sacrifice something like a giant Lord of Extinction, you can scavenge it to weaponize its power from the graveyard!

This episode was worth it for the home star runner references alone :-) keep up the great work Mitch!

it surprises me that Mitch didn't of mention the obvious. This comander works great with spark elemental like creatures and sneek attack strategies, his faction on New capenna literally has an ability that lets you play creatures for a reduced cost but they die in the end phases and you draw one.

Is it just me, or does Ziatora have strikingly similar art to Vaevictus Asmadi, the Dire? They even have the same casting cost and power/toughness, and similar sacrifice-centered abilities.

Malphagor has the ability that you discard your hand and your opponents sacrifice that number of creatures. If you are particularly interesting in the way that you use him you can discard infinite cards when he enters play or even get your entire hand into play or right back the whole interaction requires you to have a very specific set of cards in play anywhere from four to eight cards in play. The special cards that you need depend on how your causing the effect to work. One method puts ever single you discard into your library then draw that many cards. Your opponent would benefit unless you were to wait until right before the combo to use the cards. There is another combo that simply puts all the cards right back into your hand and because of how the effects works both combos basically allow you to discard infinite cards. It's kinda pointless unless you are actively looking to make use of combos like that but it is still effective if you were to use sacrifice or death of permanents to steal possibly.

Also, this should work very well with Purphoros the Bronzeblooded because (and please correct me if I am wrong) you can stack the triggers in such a way that the Ziathora-trigger happens first

When you have meathook massacre already and this looks like a good sacrifice commander.

Hey Mitch, awesome tech! I’d love to see a Falco Spara deck tech, I think the card could be a really fun commander with the shield counters, and looking at the top card of your library. Not only can you look at it at any time, you can cast it as well!

I'm honestly disappointed because WOTC can't seem to design decent Jund commanders outside of a sacrifice theme

I see a lot of people saying to use Ziatora in the 99 for Korvold (since he’s way stronger) but I also love her as the Commander. Something I want to do is actually do a Treasure strategy with Revel in Riches as a Win Con option, and a Token strategy with Experimental Confectioner and Peregrin Took for a ton of Food and Rats (food for life and card draw, rats for Ziatora Sac, and of course making Treasures). I might add Academy Manufactor into the deck as well so that I get a Food, Clue, AND Treasure whenever I make a Food or Treasure. Add in Anax, Hardened in the Forge too, so when I sac Non-token creatures, I create 1/1 satyrs as well (which also pairs with Peregrin Took, and thus Academy Maufactor).

Yeah, deffo building a -1/-1 deck around this. Having a commander to slap wither/infect on for counter generation is sweet, along with the three treasures. Low key the Jund neg counter commander I've been waiting for!

You've gotta check out the newly spoiled precon subcommander for the Obscura deck, Tivit. So cool!

My favorite pairing with this card is falthis shadow cat, and Kediss ember claw, makes it VERY difficult to deal with when paired with a few others but all you need to do then is deal 21 commander divided among any number of opponents to win

Oooh reanimator with apocalypse demon and sewer nemesis could hit even harder.

I think I’m gonna build the Riveteers precon commander over this, but she’ll go in that deck for sure! Unless there are somehow tons of blitz creatures in this set that are commander viable, which would probably be bad for standard.

With the new blitz mechanic you can fling draw and make 3 treasures pretty nice if you ask me

I just built a deck with this but instead of using creatures that have power/toughness equal to the number of creatures you control, I have ones based on the number of lands. Also have some hydras with x spells that you can pump with your mama. A lot of land ramp and then treasures can have you flinging for days, especially if you can pull from your graveyard.

Just earlier today (July 17, 2022), I played New Capenna Sealed, and pulled both Ziatora *and* the triome land. I also did pretty well, with a 2-1-0 win record. And since this is actually the second time I’ve pulled both cards (albeit on separate occasions before), I’m now going to build a Ziatora EDH deck. Wish me luck.

This. This is the Jund commander I've been looking for to finish my deck. A swarm and sacrifice deck based around getting out lots of creatures and sacrificing them for various other effects, powered further by a lot of death triggers of all kinds. While there are other nice Jund commanders out there, there's always been something about them I didn't like. I wanted one that gave a sac outlet, since my deck needs more of those, not death triggers. But unless I could find a way to ramp better, I didn't want one with a mana cost to sac stuff. And I didn't want to have to rely on ETBs as the trigger, nor risk it being taken out by having to attack with it. And this right here... A sacrifice every turn and giving some temporary ramp with treasure tokens to help even more. Yeah, the effect works best with larger creatures to sac, and I do have several good choices in my deck already and more I might swap in with this commander, but even just flinging a 1/1 Goblin token could be worth it for the treasure tokens, especially with so many death triggers that I don't need to ping my opponents with something massive every time. And the option to use my larger creatures is always there when I want to use it. Obviously would be better if I could find one that sacs as a cost for a repeatable effect, but I haven't found one in Jund yet. Still, this is still going to fill the role of commander very well...

Kediss, emberclaw familiar, Fiery emancipation, torbran, thane of red fell are once again giant bonuses in this deck. I'd of course be running all types of search spells for ramp and probably kediss as I now hit all players with my commanders ability

this should be B-R-W imo. Would be a good replacement for the now outdated Brion Stoutarm type decks.

I’m really excited for the Blitz mechanic. You get to attack with hasty creatures for cheap, then sacrifice it and replace the card in your hand end of turn! Plus, if your opponent trades with a Blitzing creature, it’s a two for one. And it synergizes really well with the new Vivien too. And it seems fun. I think it might be the strongest mechanic in the set

so hydra prevent damage gain +1 counters and use card that doubles at each end step with vorinclex/ doubling etc and one shot an enemy and use ozolith to reattach and try to get another turn or combat/end step etc to do another kill.

Yeah... I will build a deck around her with Korvold in it and will change her and korvold depending on which Deck my friends play. Love it!

I played a kinda janky Lord Windgrace Dredge deck a while back. I ended up swapping to Muldrotha, but I might just rebuild it with this guy. Between Jarad and this I can fling to my hearts content. :)

Hmm…debating this going into my Ur-Dragon deck…not sure if it’ll work there or put it into korvold.

I like using my opponents creatures to throw at them. There are plenty of red spells that let you borrow a creature until end of turn, then you sacrifice them to throw at your opponents.

So I have a Juri deck already made, and I am SO tempted to take it apart for this instead

Something else that could be used is helm of the host make copies of one of your big creatures and sac it

If Ziatora is out and so is Sneak attack and I sneak attack an eldrazi out, swing in combat and at end step when I'm supposed to sacrifice it do to sneak attacks effect can I use Ziatora effect first?

i know it’s a bit mana expensive but Colossification seems like a fun surprise in this deck. just cast it right before end step and possibly kill someone

I think ur missing some red spells to take control of ur opponents creatures. Then attack with them and then sacrifice them at the end of ur turn as well.

What reminded you of Korvold? I'm guessing that they are the same colors, both have flying and they sacrifice things (one is permanents and one is only creatures)? Not sure there are enough similarities to say it's like Korvold. My first thought was this was like Brion Stoutarm...

For that tasty esper precon, finally gonna make a mill deck, the soul bond mill guy, mirko vosk, trepanation blade, when you get unblockable double strike… combat damage triggers get pretty nice imho.
