The Colorado Rockies are stuck in a bad spot. In a division they've never won in their 30 year history and it's not getting any easier. The Dodgers have Shohei and others with an endless payroll, the Diamondbacks just won the NL and have a young team only getting better, and the Padres have major star power themselves.
So it's time to try something completely new to try and overcome these odds: A Draft Only Rebuild.
A staple of the channel, the Draft Only Rebuild challenges us to build the team up using only the Rookie and Rule 5 drafts after we tear down the ENTIRE 40 man roster after the first season.
One major twist added for this year: Trades. I am allowing 3 trades in this series, but only for prospects, and only for one prospect per trade. So we will need to time them right and make sure they hit to ensure we don't waste them.

Draft Day is like Christmas in the summer. Great draft. Barretto won't take long to get to the Majors. That 63 pitching clutch will come in handy early on, too.

The pitching clutch is niiiice considering how low I've been seeing it with many other pitchers. He should have a short stint in the minors for sure, though you never know.

RIP missing out on Covey. Damn. Still, great generational pitcher. What a draft. Add a slider to your 1st pick and a 4 seam FB to Reyes. Also edit Hernandez to get a 100 mph fb!!! More fun!

Great consolation prize for missing out on a generational 1B/3B guy for sure. Im generally against changing things, but adding a slider to Barretto and Hernandez up to 99 fastball will probably happen.

Great draft! I was able to take a generational pitcher with the 8th pick the other day! He was ranked like 30-40th in the class. Barretto is gonna be a stud!

Definitely made the right call at 4 but I do really like Paul Taylor. Doesn’t have the power you’d like but 85 fielding at first is awesome, nothing will get by him. Don’t think he can play anywhere else sadly with how bad his arm is

Yeah he was the best chance at a good position player in this class with our picks past 4. In a Rockies Franchise I think it's particularly important to get power at 1b, but we could have tried to make it work at 2B or somewhere. I still like getting a big boost to pitching in this class though. Some could even be trade chips that will have good value for the next couple years.

First was his excellent overall and potential spread. There was a 25 point gap between them, which combined with the fact he was ranked 2 by my scouts made me confident in A potential. Secondly, a very well rounded skill set made me confident he wouldn’t have any ratings in the 20s or 30s.

Excellent video. I play manage mode exclusively and I play every inning. I would have passed on Barreto because his stamina was listed at 64-80 but it turned out to be 81 and with his potential at 99 he will probably remain 81 stamina and not decline like most pitchers do. I would have instead taken Dwayne Perry. Pitchers below 80 stamina in manage mode tend to wear out the bullpen. Turned out you made a great pick. How did Barreto end up with 81 stamina? Was it because his potential was so high?

Yeah so Barretto just beat his range by 1 for all his ratings. Rare that with a scout as good as we do, but I won't be complaining. With how he was ranked by our scouts, I had a good feeling he would end up on the high end of his ranges, but he beat them altogether. Perry was a good option for sure as well. Would have happily taken him at 4. Stamina in the 80s is always a mark I like to see for my SP, but 75 is kind of the minimum I go for.

@@fiendfranchise Interesting. Do you see any differences between mlbts23 and 24 regarding scouting/quality of players/draft?

@@azbdizzy4176 not a lot. They added two way players this year, which is fun. They also added a type of player that can start as 90+ overall. But both those are really rare and for the most part I think everything else is the same.

I think not getting Perry bc his 4FB is only 92 is a mistake, ya mix up your speeds and you can sent batter back to the bench regularly disappointed

Sure but that wasn’t the only reason. I liked the gap in barrettos overall and potential more, which ended up being the right call. At least in my opinion.

Jason Lindsay will be a mediocre hitter. His power is too low.

Could be, but he's got a good shot to get on base a lot. I would have been happy with him at 4, though we got the better player.
