Is there a term for describe the square-bottom of the cam follower? Like in the first example in this video. The shape of the cam causes the up-and-down motion, but the square-bottom on the cam follower creates the rotating motion. Is there a normal term for that, besides just "square thing at the bottom of the cam follower"?

I am planning on doing this project with my high school students. Have you experimented with different materials for the cams? I have a band saw, but the cams are too small to be safely cut on a band saw. Thanks
Design them in CAD and 3D print, or cut with a CNC. You could just stack cardboard pieces to the preferred thickness and cut out the cam shapes and glue them together or wrap them in tape. These are just a few ideas.
