This really minimizes the actual involvement of the Soviets in this. Okay so I have the exact explanation to as of why, and also the rest of his clip greatly oversimplifies the actual war: From the clip it really ignores that the decision to divide the peninsula (creating a capitalist pro-American south) was a team effort by both the Soviets and Americans. While the Americans proposed it, the Soviets greatly agreed to it. The clip omits this origin point to the war as it could only happen because of this division. The clip does hint at the Pre-war period of border clashes. But it’s greatly simplified. The DPRK wasn’t on the losing side in these clashes as much as they were winning. Regardless, the clip downplays the actual tragedy of the division and it’s ensuring bloodshed. As massacres of communists in the south were a reoccurring phenomenon. The Northern invasion was to put an end to this. The main issue with this clip is it portrays the USSR as indifferent to the North Invading and that the Chinese were not involved until after the invasion. Reality is, when Kim Il Sung met with Stalin in March of 1949, Stalin informed him that the invasion would have soviet support so long as China would aid should the U.S. regroup and invade the north. Stalin did not care if the peninsula was entirely under the US’s control, nor if it weren’t. Mao however did care and agreed to Kim Il Sung on the invasion. The clip acts like this was agreed upon with Stalin and Mao after the fact and not before. That’s what really gets me about it.
