Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday announced that after a year-long investigation, 22 people have been arrested in connection with crimes along train tracks in Los Angeles.

These thefts have been going on for a long time. My bet is that the insurance companies started resisting paying off these claims and so law enforcement was pressured by the railroads and shippers of the merchandise to do something to halt these thefts.

Back when trains ran cabooses, the Southern Pacific would place Railway Police cars at the end of the auto-rack trains to stop vandalism and petty theft. Seems drone technology is advanced to the point now where drones can be programmed to patrol particular sections of track and transmit dronecam footage back to police HQ.

Maybe it's just me, but... did you happen to notice the surnames of those arrested are hispanic? Of course, this being California, you would never hear if they were US citizens or not. The police call it burgulary, cargo theft, etc.. I call it organized crime and looting. It is good that they finally made arrests. Howerver, a question still remains. If it was that blatent, observed and filmed by neighbors, then why a whole year of continued criminal activity before making any arrests?!?
