Seeing all these videos of people harassing innocent human beings and beating them up really makes my heart bleed. How is it possible to have so much hate and directing it on a certain ethnic group/ minority......
havva I’m Vietnamese/Chinese/French, but I still have some pride in living life. We only have one life. I will not let anyone take advantage of me. Those toxic people are gone. Also, wrong place, wrong time could cause a person’s defeat. I smile and laugh every day. I respect that emotion.
The guy who was filming got arrested. The guy who attacked him turned himself in. The old guy and his family aren't pressing charges. Instead they're seeking"restorative justice" reconciliation measures which mean the 2 parties sit back down and talk to one another. I think that its beautiful that instead of fighting back with anger, they're reaching out with compassion.
Watching these clips was so painful, but sobering. This situation has brought out the worst in some people. I’ve received people saying “eww stay away from her she’s Asian” or “Gotta stay away from these Asian people, know what I mean?” It’s not aggressive like what others are also going through, and doesn’t excuse that behavior, but it shows that it’s not uncommon. Despite that, it’s also brought out a lot of kindness in people too, even simply smiling at someone in passing since everyone is so tense and on edge atm. Since we’re having a shelter-in-place in my city, I’m looking forward to binging all the Wong Fu videos I’ve missed these last few months! Thanks for always providing awesome content!✨ Stay safe everyone, and be kind! 🙂
that has happened to me as well. it is just like a blame game but yes I love the ending message -- protect yourself and be kind to one another, that's the least we can do for now
Truly disheartened by how Asians are being treated in America. The video of the old man being harassed and hit, that really made me think twice about travelling to America in the future. Do stay safe from harm and stay home for the time being. 😔
Can't thank you guys at Won Fu enough for shining light on this topic and using your platform to spread awareness about this whole situation. Also thanks to Year of the Ox for creating this amazing song and MV. It really left me speechless in many ways and I really hope many people will see it and really think about the message of the song. At times like these, we can't let a virus divide us. We are all human and we're all affected by it. Let's fight this virus together! Everyone, be safe, stay healthy and be kind to one another.
THANK YOU. My husband and I both work in predominantly Asian communities in So Cal and I've been deeply upset that NOTHING about these attacks have been covered. What little foothold the Asian community has been able to gain over the last few years in media has been totally silenced by the mass media ignoring this. We've so worried about our students and I'm sooo grateful that I have this to share with them. Thanks to both you, WongFu, and Year of the Ox.
Sadly one of the clips in the video happened near me and when I found out about it, I could no longer go about my normal commute the same way because I feared that I could be next. No one should have to deal with this. No one should have to live in fear, no one should not be able to walk around the place they call home and feel scared of being targeted. This really hits deep but sadly it's not new and has been existing in many bipoc communities for a long time and it's a shame that it continues on. I hope that people can stand by Asians during this time. Please be our ally and please say something against these racial outbursts. You don't need to be the one pulling the attacker away, just speak out in our defense when something like this happens. Tell the people who are attacking to stop, call them out, call for help. Please stay safe everyone.
I don't live in US but Europé, but if I saw anything like that I would surely do something. I have no tolerance for violence because of racism especialy. I feel very sorry also if people around don't do anything. It's their god damn responsibility as fellow human to care and act.
YT hides my notifications. Never for offense, only defense: 1.) Some dollar store and pharmacies sell brown spray-bottles full of hydrogen peroxide. Maybe the HP can be replaced with vinegar. 2.) Vinegar spray's also good for flavor. 3.) The strongest part of the human body is the elbow. 4.) "You wouldn't hurt me --- you're a nice person."
I felt like crying when I heard the "wuhan jia you!!" also mad respect for Year of the Ox's honesty right at the beginning of the song this was well arranged. thank you
I don’t understand people who attack others for these reasons. I thought we have educated the most of our population. I appreciate Wong fu and Year of the Ox for sharing this. I knew this would be a consequence but this video provides a picture of the current situation.
“United We stand , Divided we Fall. “ To everyone facing hate and discrimination , to everyone who’ve faced hate and discrimination before regardless of your race , ethnicity, religion , just know we are here with you ❤️
Powerful video. In a time that we're supposed to be social distancing why are ppl assaulting other ppl? I know fear can move you to do crazy things, but that's just straight up dumb. Sending love and light to the Asian kids and adults getting bullied. This time would pass. Stay strong 💪🏿💕✨
I honestly the song is dope but the meaning behind it is sad, asians dont deserve that kind of bullying. I wish everyone the best no matter who you are or where you come from. 🇨🇿🇬🇧🇨🇳🇺🇸🇹🇭
Over here in Canada, if you wear a mask and you're asian, people think you got coronavirus lol. But if you're not asian, then they assume you're just protecting yourself.
but at least in Canada, the PM actually went on TV to criticize discrimination of any kind to Chinese and Asian is unacceptable in times like this. What does Trump do, this including Conway and other Republicans, antagonize and encourage discrimination towards Asians
Not really. Canada is chill. I’m in Montreal, wearing mask everyday and ain’t nobody judging. Funny thing is, there are police cars roaming outside and yelling “ please don’t wear masks if you’re not sick”. I mean ... sure, if they wanna die.
This is heartbreaking to see 😭, although I am kurdish I grew up watching Chinese, Japanese and korean cartoons and dramas. Majority of my friends are Chinese and seeing the amount of racism they receive is so heartbreaking to see. Its so small minded to blame a race for a viral pandemic that could’ve originated from any part of the world. Throughout history there have been fatal viral flues but no race has gotten the hate for it the way Chinese people and asians have currently . Please educate family and friends on how dangerous xenophobia can be . My heart goes out to everyone that is facing hardship at a time like this.
I'm 17 and I live in the 626/909 area so the demographic is mostly Asian, so I will say that I haven't experienced this much xenophobia, although I have experienced some racist comments at sports games from schools that don't have as many Asian people. Watching this video made me remember a time when I wished I wasn't Chinese because although I live in an area with mostly Asians, I still saw on the media all the time how we as a people are portrayed. TV usually saw us small and nerdy, or some guy who didn't speak English very well that knew kung fu. Now, I can't help but feel ashamed I ever even felt that way. In the last two years, I have really started accepting my culture and I am so proud to call myself an Asian-American. What really helped me find this Identity were channels like WongFu, the Fung Bros, etc. as well as the various actors/actresses, basketball players, snowboarders, etc. We are a strong people and we are not to be belittled. We will get through this.
Y’all please blow this up. I’m tired of how barely anyone knows what’s going on and how most of us are so passive about the blatant racism and violence our brothers and sisters face everyday. We need to spread the word.
Thank you guys for raising awareness about this. My Asian friends and acquaintances are some of the best and loveliest people I have ever met. This prompted me to make a FB post about this to raise awareness as well and urge people to be respectful, be kind, be loving, now more than ever. My one constructive criticism is that I would still have gotten the message without the adult language. Because of it, I did not feel comfortable sharing this video directly with as many people. But I applaud the message and I am with you
That line, "corona doesn't discriminate" hit me hard. People just don't see that Asians aren't the cause of the virus. We shouldn't be racist and ignorant in a time like this. We should help each other to survive.
It’s hard being Asian in America! People always picking on us and being able to leave with little to no consequences... We gotta stick together and help each other out whether you’re Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Hmong, etc. We’re all Asian we need to stick up for each other because no body else will! 💪
Great JOB and even GREATER message. You guys nailed it and we're happy to see you use your platform to talk about this in the way that you did! Also, RIck Lee with those BARS and word play. Boy, if you don't stop.. I had to rewind that to catch it again.
Thank you for this message. It’s just heartbreaking to see Chinese, Koreans and Asian people being discriminated and considered as “virus”. How can we call ourselves a global society when this act of racism isn’t put to an end? I send my comfort to all the ones out there who are dealing with this issue. We must stay strong, and overcome this together. Racism cannot be forgiven nor acted upon ANYONE in ANY WAY. We must work together as a global society to get through this. We must.
Saw the MV yesterday, thank you WongFu for using your platform to share and spread the message. Especially now that people are intentionally calling it the "Chinese Virus."
Ok, I get sick of this. Maybe it's because the Chinese government is responsible. Maybe I agree calling it the Chinese virus (even though I am Chinese) because the Chinese government deliberately tried to covered up the virus, and it originated in a wet market in Wuhan. Because here are the facts: several of the past viruses have originated in the wet markets of China, including SARS in 2003. COVID-19 originated in a wet market, where scientists see evidence it came from bats. The virus was then transferred to pangolins, and then to humans. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TPpoJGYlW54.html There were whistleblowers who knew this virus happened, but the CCP silenced them. Li Wenliang, a doctor in Wuhan, warned colleagues of the virus in December LAST YEAR. But do you know what happened? Police censured him. They told him to recant his comments, and he died in January. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_Wenliang. They called him a rumormonger, they humiliated him, and he died for it. But it doesn't even stop there. The Chinese government then LIED to the World Health Organization. They told the WHO that the situation was contained, and that the virus was under control. If the Chinese government had acted 3 WEEKS earlier, they could have reduced the number of cases by 95%. www.axios.com/timeline-the-early-days-of-chinas-coronavirus-outbreak-and-cover-up-ee65211a-afb6-4641-97b8-353718a5faab.html So we should be calling it the Wuhan virus, or the Chinese virus. It originated in China, it helped spread due to the Chinese government, and the Chinese government should be held responsible. If you are saying it's racist to say Chinese virus, then you are just helping the Chinese government with their propaganda.
@@Exl6243 You're not wrong. But the issue lies in the fact that those who are less educated and easily manipulated by fear are going to use every excuse possible to wrongfully discriminate against individual Asians who had no part in spreading the virus. I assume the people who recognize the role of the Chinese government and the reality of how the virus was engendered are more empathetic to Asians as individuals.
@@user-ez5vq9fd2t That's fair, but are we going to say that calling COVID-19 intentionally "Chinese Virus" or "Wuhan virus" is racist? I don't. I think we should call out the CCP for what it did and make it clear that Asians in general are not responsible for this. That's why I like the name "Wuhan virus," because it names a specific location. It tells you where it started, and it opens up the causes and spread.
@@Exl6243 It sounds like you or anyone you know have not experienced racism yet. As P said, once you start calling it the Chinese virus, Wuhan virus, Trump virus , everything associated with it will have a negative, and in this case, a racism connotation to it. Yes, the CCP is responsible for this mess and hopefully after this is all over, the world leaders will put more pressure on the Chinese GOVERNMENT to stop these wet markets. Calling it the Chinese virus, Wuhan virus, etc will only increase the hate an bigotry associated with them. If you still don't understand this, then I guess it won't sink in until you or someone you care about becomes a victim of racism.
@@puffpuffin1 Interesting you imply that I haven't faced racism when I have. Also interesting is that you have to make a huge logical leap from naming it Chinese virus to associating it with negatives. Tell me, do you think people from the Middle East are more likely to have MERS? Or people close to the Zika River have the Zika virus? Of course not. That's an idiotic statement, and people who think that are idiots, and people who that's what we mean to say are idiots. People who are racist don't need excuses.
I'm really proud that Wong Fu put this on their channel. I've admired Wong Fu and all the creative people that they've introduced to me through the years. These hate crimes are something that MUST BE TALKED ABOUT. Thank you for always being the representation I've wanted to see in media.
This song made me cry... I'm lucky to be living in Vancouver so I had no idea that this was all happening in America. I just really can't believe it...
We live in Chilliwack. My husband is Chinese, and he had someone try to run him over with his truck. (no joke) The guy also rolled down his window and started swearing at him while he was trying to cross the cross walk. Another time he was in line with his buggy to get into the Abbotsford Costco and someone didn't like him being in line in front of them so he got rammed in the back of his ankles with the guys cart, and everyone saw it happen but no one said anything. This is happening in Canada. Its so sad.
@@luvmycatwhisker So sorry that this has happened to you and your family. The silver lining is waking up to the reality and embrace it by playing with the cards we've got:)
But it didn’t and now look at what’s happening especially in the Bay Area where I live and where my 79 year old father lives. Things need to change and Asians along with our art cannot keep being ignored. 300k views between the original video and this one isn’t just.
Sadly. We need to learn how to look back into our past in order for us to acknowledge it and learn from it. Or else we will end up repeating history hurting humanity
Honestly, even if it started in Wuhan, i feel terrible because of how some Asians are being treated, they don't deserve that, that's not being careful, that's just being racist.
OverBark even people In Wuhan..it’s not everyone’s fault.....stuff happens...why do people get such a high terrorizing people? Can you not put yourself in another’s shoe and see it’s wrong? Now I understand why more Asian Americans are having to buy guns....I saw a clip of a granny being so sad she had to buy a gun to protect herself..it’s sad.
Exactly and is it part of American culture to shoot anything that moves? How about western food practices causing diseases? Western food practices caused mad cow disease and antibiotic resistance. H1N1 started in the US and so did the Spanish flu which killed millions of people. The US need to deal with mass shootings and how people are going to pay for hospital fees before demonizing another country’s people and culture. China has been reporting 0 cases because they took the right steps to stop the spread of the virus. They were able to build hospitals to account for all the patients. Meanwhile in the US, senators were profiting off of insider information about the virus and so much more should have been done. Our problems have nothing to do with China right now and we need to look towards our own government to make the situation more tolerable.
Yuri Kim Like what? SARS and covid-19? How about Americans spreading AIDS? H1N1? There’s people blaming China while the “Spanish” flu killed millions of people. China has the largest population in the world -statistically speaking, they have not had as many diseases as even the US. They’ve also dealt with diseases a lot better than the US and upon further investigation, covid-19 did not even start in the wet market, there’s journal articles to speak to this point. America is openly shitting on China to gain politically and economically, and also because trump is an absolute idiot. On the other hand China donated 1000 ventilators to the US and more than 900 firefighters volunteered to go help with the Austria wildfire. 2 even passed away. They’re doing nothing but good and even I can see that. I see from your last name that you’re also Asian, so you have even more incentive to stand up to the blatant racism we’re seeing. If the target was Korea you wouldn’t be so complacent.
Thank you Wang fu for sharing this song, I am from India and for a while there has been a lot of racial and religious hate going on in my country .... This video really spoke to me as a universal message against prejudice ... It's a great message that should be spread.
I was really hesitant to watch this because of the video clips... but it was such a good song, and I loved the discussion at the end. Thanks for using your guys' voices and platform to bring to light, not just the problems, but more importantly, the better outlooks and a hope for the future! Ugh my heart breaks so so much for these people who are having/ had these experiences, including those in the videos... part of me wants to say, "this can't be true right?" But looking at the grandma's and grandpa's faces... 😭💔 praying for America, God help us, heal us, please!
Seeing those videos made me more afraid of other people’s racist actions more than the virus tbh. 😔 Such an important message; thanks for sharing this. Stay safe everyone ❤️
I really appreciate the commentary at the end of the music video! Especially the part where they explained calling out our own faults and racist tendencies before addressing the situation. Thanks Phil for including it.
How low people are capable of going completely confuses me. My heart breaks at these clips.... I just wish there was more I could do to stand up for every innocent human who is beaten down. For now I will just spend the awareness and share the vid. Sending love to every hurting person out there. You matter! -from a long time subscriber💜
Thank you, Wong Fu for leveraging your platform! United, we stand to fight the virus! I agreed, compassion and love will help unite all of us! I am very proud of Asian Americans contributions!
This is insane and truly heartbreaking! This brought tears to my eyes to see the hate that is out there in a time where we should be respecting and caring about each other.
Thank you for this video WongFu & YOX. Speaking out and bringing awareness to racism is so important. More important that the Asian community come together and stop fighting and arguing with each other over political opinions. We need to stand together and speak out regardless of political affiliation. Together we can overcome these tough times but not when we are fighting each other.
Watching this video give us a strong message. Racism is wrong and hurts. I was bullied a lot in school because of being Chinese. I started hating myself. However, I accepted who I am. I moved away I don't get bullied as much. Now, this is a virus come upon of happen, some blame others instead of looking to the real situation, which some have passed away. All of us are human beings the same species. Instead of hurting others, working together, selfless, positive and keeping others and yourself safe, we can survive this.
Congratulations for being able to spread your message in so many different ways. That was definitely the most dark wong fu video, but people really need to understand how serious these horrible behaviours are and how important respect and kindness are.
talk about the young kids in the school, it really make me heart broke, and worry about them. I remember when I was just started college, there were student posting commie signs on the classrooms, it just different from my experience at high school and middle school, i guessed my teacher protected me really well back then. In this time, I hope parents could pay more attention toward their kids, and tell them this is not their fault and give kids a hug.
Many people can relate to this experience. I don’t even think about blaming another race during this time. I love the humble stance at the beginning, racism has happened to many groups, not everyone points fingers at another race. We understand, stand alongside and grieve too ❤️. Nice work
hello wfp, this video was from a year ago from the awareness of social distance - thank you to year of the ox for the video - bts was and is still giving out love from their music. your song here made me ask if NYC is not feeling as much as what you wrote out. our lives matter started from 'there' and you are right the care for public clean was not even to 'there'. your clippings happened to tie to a recent Mar 2021 news in Georgia. our kids are waiting to remember to carry on responsibilities first. old sterotypes: study, work and home. you hurt our milk farm giver... elle for nice video (a.kim)
So dope! I listened to this at least 10 times and shared it with everyone! The message, the music, love everything about it! Thank you!!!! Love y’all YOX!!
Proud of you guys! Please don't feel ashamed of being ASIAN! YOU deserve to be here on this earth. If anyone has ever in their life experienced racism, think about how that makes you feel, and we have ALL felt it, no matter WHO you are. LOVE, means saying, 'you NEVER asked for this virus or are responsible for it, it's just like struggle, we never want it in life but I am a human like you. I have fears, emotions and struggle. We are ALL struggling together as a human race because of the Covid-19. Let's choose to show compassion, and wish each other well, then walk away in peace".
Thank you for this message Wong Fu! People need to realize that this harassment on Asians is wrong. Seeing the videos of innocent people being discriminated against and beat up hurts my heart and makes me super angry. This pandemic has really brought out the worst in people, we need to come together and support people rather than hurt each other and break each other apart in this urgent time. Ignorance and aggression can be scary. Please stay safe everyone!
The clips honestly make me feel extremely lucky for living and growing up in the San Gabriel Valley. Specifically in an area where the population and the school demographic is majority Asian
This was incredibly enlightening. It disgusts me that this is happening in the world today. People, we are all human. Don't treat other like shit because of their appearance
Much love from California! Props and respect for speaking on this topic. Beautiful yet painful to watch at the same time. This goes on without the virus. Worry about this happening to my wife. This song goes hard! Keep it up OX! We all the same! Wish everyone luck and week wishes during this epidemic!
I'm so glad I subscribe. I had no idea this was going on. My patronage lapsed for financial reasons, but when I get back on track, I'll be back. In the meantime, I'm never leaving the house without my Wong Fu pin on. However I can be an ally, I will.
This is so heart breaking! I love Asian culture and I never once thought oh it's their fault for corona. It's a virus!!! It is no one's fault! if anyone is at fault it's the people who are not following the quarentine and not being responsible by washing their hands etc. Who are will full spreading the virus by being rebellious. I had no idea it was this bad! We all need to come together now more then ever!! 🙏
This sends such a strong and powerful message about COVID19 and the way people are treating others. It’s extremely upsetting to see what really happens and how people can be so ignorant to others. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻❤️. I hope this is an eye opener for everyone.
Such an important issue and controversial topic. I couldnt help but pause from time to time but I appreciate how WongFu isn't afraid to keep it real and push the boundaries 🙌🙌 Fear is a disease with this pandemic. Remember to love and treat each other with respect and humility guys 💜❤ be the catalyst and the change we want in our communities 🙏🙏
I feel so sorry for all of the people who were attacted because of anything. And because of the Covid which people connect with race? Are you serious? I was in tears just watching the video. Be strong I love you all and I do not care what race you are or what country you are from. We are from the same planet we should help each other.
$**t. I haven't seen in the news lately. Also, at first for some reason I somehow thought it would pretty much entirely only be white people being reactionary and racist, but that's not even the case. Wow. Also, hats off to being honest, and saying almost right off the bat saying that even we had reactions, like after 9/11 you were nervous. Good video. Thank you also for posting the music video. It's political activism in music, and I honestly had not seen that in the media yet lately.
It tugs at my heartstrings, so sad. people need to just respect each other and each stay in their lane. whether you are black white or Asian, just leave people the F alone..why do you have to bother a person not even talking to you or looking at you.
Definitely an eye opener. Please let us not underestimate the effectiveness of washing your hands for 20 seconds and using hand sanitizer. It can save a life.
I have a feeling people will start discriminating Asians because of this Covid-19 issue! But to me fear, ignorance, and hate is the real virus in this planet! Be safe out there and look out for one another!
It's stuff like this that causes me anxieties. Not only do I have to worry about my family's health, I have to worry about them not getting attacked. All this xenophobic acts, because people are scared and ignorant to what's real and the truth. Only if we had a leader that stood up and not make racist statements to continue this bad stupid rhetoric. We are all humans, we are all in this together, if we turn against each other, what's the point? Why do we even have a country like the US? We need solidarity and a common sense of unity. Stay safe and stay healthy.
This is horrible. I feel so sorry for people who met and meet people who behave so bad to them because of the COVID-19. It is nobody's fault it just happened. It is maybe because of the markets so there are better conditions for the mutation but who cares. It happened now we have to fight with virus together not against each other! Sending hug to every single one of you. 💙
After watching the music video, I was left in tears - not necessarily from sadness, but more of anger, disgust, and disappointment. I live in a pretty diverse part of the US, but when I first heard about the attacks on older Asians, my main concern was my mother. She's a feisty woman and won't take sh*t from anyone but she's also a "tiny Asian". But as more attacks happened, I have to admit, I was concerned about possible backlash from even just going out to the grocery store while being Asian American, let alone being Chinese American. All of this racial tension reminds me of 9/11, when my friends and I were shouted at by a car of people around our age, telling us to "Go back to our own country." Never mind the fact that I was born here - it just so happens that I look Asian. I'm tired of racists and xenophobes thinking that it's "ok" to attack people who look different from them. I'm tired of seeing racist posts calling COVID-19 the "Kung Flu" and people thinking it's funny. DO BETTER. BE BETTER.
