YEAR ROUND HOMESCHOOLING | MAKING THE SWITCH 

14 years homeschooling and we've always been year-round 😊 it was one of the main reasons for homeschooling because my husband works in hospitality in a very high tourist region of FL. His "vacation time" is blacked out for those typical school breaks/ summer vacation peak times etc. It's been great for us because we can be free to have spontaneous vacations or staycation. This year I have chosen to be very structured and count weeks for the Sabbath schedule and post it on the family calendar for my 6th grader with ADHD she needs this to her help executive function. Additionally, she struggles with some learning disabilities and memory issues which I can't imagine the learning loss if we took an entire summer off. The advice I can give is to encourage the students by reminding them of their "break/ vacation week/s" to motivate them to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Also, if you take one week off it might be easier to jump back in after break but just prepare for a week of getting back in the swing of things/ adjustment for a longer break (although definitely not as much adjustment as taking an entire 3 months off). Oh, we also are part of a co-op with classes on a block schedule so I try to line up our family break with their scheduled break to make it feel even more enjoyable to get time off schoolwork. 😊 Best wishes on your new year 🎉

How the Australian holidays work is 2wks in April, 2wks June/July, 2wks Sept, and then 6-8 weeks over Dec/Jan. Even that 6-8 weeks I feel like it’s SO LONG. I will be taking 2 of those weeks off with Christmas etc but other than that I’d like to keep going but more relaxed. Like if they have play dates with their friends that go to school I probably won’t do that day

We take June off and start back the Monday after the 4th of July. It makes for a more flexible year. When we break for too long we struggle to get back into our flow.

This sounds like a very organized schedule. I hope it works out for you, looking forward to see how it goes. We start in august and go till end of May and usually take a 2 month break. We do a bit of school work during those 2 months or try to haha. We take 2 weeks off at Christmas and about 1 week off in spring. But I feel like starting in august gives us that flexibility if we need to take extra time off for sickness etc we can push our school year into June if we need to 😊

This is the first summer that we didn't incorporate year-round schooling. It just didn't make sense for us this time around. I am sure we'll use that schedule again because we do love it. Best wishes on your new schedule and school year. 🌻

We homeschool year round as well! It does tend to get lighter right before the curriculum switch as everything becomes finished, but it is amazing!

we love yr round homeschooling and only done it as we are traveler’s so we take smaller breaks!!! This January we had to start travel schooling as our travels where 7 months at a time but we where able to school slower when travelling!!! We don’t do sabbath schooling but we take a lot of breaks!!!
