"REAGAN'S SKELETON" from FRAGRANT WORLD. ALBUM ORDER LINKS: Band: www.yeasayer.net iTunes: smarturl.it/fra... US Label: bit.ly/KYmfAW Worldwide (ex-US): smarturl.it/yea...
I don't understand how a song can blend LCD Soundsystem-esque dance synth, psychedelic pop, worldbeat (yes I know "world" music is a stupid genre), and indie pop so damn flawlessly.
Reagan's Skeleton Yeasayer Tavern in hole outside of Ventura When low and behold, found a beauty Said i never seen a redhead crumble just like that She sat outside, got something to see We walked a quiet road for miles at first Couldn't see a thing The rattle from the dark chills up my spine coming from the trees Oh, that's Reagan's skeleton in the moonlight Don't fear the red eyes, fear the satellites overhead That's Reagan's skeleton, marching our way Sentimental violence, leading their zombies up ahead That's Reagan's skeleton in the moonlight Don't fear the red eyes, fear the satellites overhead That's Reagan's skeleton marching our way Sentimental violence, leading their zombies in a fog internally Must've passed out when i came to Montana To my surprise about a young lady As her face grew sick, her nails tore round my heart Blood trickled down, economically The laughter from the dark was low at first But the king could cover me I recognize the stench of burning flesh as they began to feed. Oh, on Reagan's skeleton in the moonlight Don't fear the red eyes, fear the satellites overhead That's Reagan's skeleton, marching our way Sentimental violence, leading their zombies up ahead That's Reagan's skeleton in the moonlight Don't fear the red eyes, fear the satellites overhead That's Reagan's skeleton marching our way Sentimental violence, leading their zombies in a fog internally Oh the horror, running's not the way to fall in love Oh the horror, running's not the way to fall in love That's Reagan's skeleton in the moonlight Don't fear the red eyes, fear the satellites overhead That's Reagan's skeleton, marching our way Sentimental violence, leading their zombies up ahead That's Reagan's skeleton in the moonlight Don't fear the red eyes, fear the satellites overhead That's Reagan's skeleton marching our way Sentimental violence, leading their zombies in a fog internally
I have been enjoying this song every day since I downloaded it. First time I heard of Yeasayer was when they came to Omaha & I'm so glad they did. Problem: I was expecting more Zombies in the video.
I'll be forever glad these guys brought up so many bangers in their time and wish them well, but the irony of them falsely accusing Kendrick Lamar of ripping off Sunrise from their first EP, when this is straight-up Let's Come Together by The Beloved lifted wholesale, is just hilarious.
I've seen people say this before, and it's really just a couple measures of the chorus of Sweet Harmony, the only other similarity is the key and maybe the fact that it also has electronic production? But Reagan's Skeleton has a darker (& somehow also peppier) tone, completely different production, different narrative, different structure, I get that it's similar in a couple ways but to call it a rip-off is a huge stretch
