Rashi comments in the beginning of parshas vayechi, that the time of moshiach was closed off from Yaakov Avinu. NOBODY KNOWS WHO AND WHEN MOSHIACH WILL COME. all the gemara says is it has to come by the year 6000. The Rebbe was a great tzaddik. This we do know for sure.

I don't like it when I see people going against Chabad Hasidism, and saying the Rebbe docent want this. Can you ppl look at a dafi talmud for once. I am not much of a believer that the Rebbe is Mashiach, but it isn't bad that people do say so. He had a heart attack and years later a stroke several months before this.....it left him unable to speak or move the right side of his body and obv very very weakened. Some people referred to him as he messiah a lot during his life time and another Rebbe published a book saying rebbe schneerson was the messiah and then rebbe schneerson banned the publication he publically denounced these ideas several times in the harshest terms and worked to stop them spreading .Chabad who declare him messiah are not known as messianic chabad . Many Chassidim have a long history of hoping their rebbes will be messiah...or speak of the Messiah's of a certain generation ...meaning there are many great people ..who help humanity by simply being kind...many people felt the 'king' was not the choice of the king ..but of the people ..so they ignored the instructions of Rebbe Schneerson to stop spreading that idea. They are known as messianic jews ...but well there are not many of them..

@Jewdicris when it comes to "King Moshiach - Rebbe - Chabad" things , all i can say is: if you realy want to know the truth then you MUST learn what the rebbe says on the topic - im not telling you hes moshiach im not telling you anything, - all i want you - or anyone that wants the truth of the matter - u must learn Sichos Kodesh Nun Alef and Nun Beis- theres a book called Besuras Hageulah wich is a short collection of the parts of the sichos of nun alef and nun beis that speak about moshiach.

The difference between the Rebbe and shabbsai tzvi is that shabbsai proclaimed himself moshiach. The Rebbe did no such thing. But some of his delusional followers make him into another false prophet.

Again you are speaking from lack of knowledge probably did not read the story of tzavti tzvi .but there are many differences one being that shabtai tzvi was all for nullifying mitzvos and eventually even became Muslim. Bchlal his approach was wrong one of leaving the world every one has to sell everything and walk to isreal .the rebbe on the other hand that by the way did clearly say about himself that he is moshiach in the talks of 5751 and especially 5752.he was someone that clearly encouraged and tell this day encourages mitzva observations as we can see by his mitzva campaign s.also he explains in his talks the exact opposite of shabtai tzvi.in the talk of 5751 achrei kdoshim he explains that geula is not abandoning everything In exile and abandoning the world the exact opposite redemption is from the exile

Truly sickening avodah zara. Like someone down below said, he didn't fulfill the criteria to become moshiach. Is there still war in Israel? You bet. Do we have the third Beis Hamikdash? And are we all in Israel?? Hmm. I go to a Chabad here in NY, and I'm even a chazzan at a Chabad, but they don't defile the shul by screaming yechi. Because if you learn the subject well you would see the last 2 chapters of rambam that first there is the stage of bchezchat moshiach means in the time of exile before he builds the beis hamkidash .he is active in the world bringing jews closer to Judaism e.t.c and fighting the wars of g-d and only later in the second stage when he finishes this he gathers the exiles and builds the temple .
