I was born Jewish, but i have never had enough money to go to Israel. I put my daughter and myself through college and am 62 and still poor. I hope to go to Israel before i die. I have always felt drawn to go there. My husband is a Jew by choice, and i would not go without him. I continue to pray for our hostages, the IDF, and all of our people. I admire both of you, joining our tribe at a time when anti-Semitism is on the rise. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the podcast.

Regarding making aliyah, it has always been a great challenge and I include people who came well prepared academically and professionally. About fifteen years ago walking on Jaffe Road near Mea Shearim I noticed in front of me a charedi man with Afro-Carribean women and two little boys with long peyot. The couple were speaking to each other in English, man had New York City accent and the women a Carribean, they spoke to their children in Ivrit. The husband took children in one direction and wife was continued on Jaffe Road. As I came to corner waiting for the light to change I asked the women how it was living here. She responded, "if you're asking me if it's perfect, it's not, but it's definitely better than New York and the States.Israel is different, it's like home I didn't know I was missing."

A wonderful interview. May we all someday go home to Israel. In the last few months I've been thinking about it very seriously. I was there many years ago, so was my husband. But now that I'm getting closer to retirement, I think that this is where I want to be. Many of my friends are thinking about leaving the country, but the only country in the world which embraces people wanting to come home is Israel.

I think in Israel there is a different attitude than Jews in America, for example, because we don't feel like we need to justify ourselves. And because we are not in a strange land, we feel empowered to defend ourselves. So we are not scared in the same way, because we feel more in control of our fate.

You know you are a true jew when you go through giyur at the hardest of times, when everyone hides you stand up with a torch towards HaShem saying I am here for you father. Tizku le mizvot.

When Yehuda Pryce says that he once thought Orthodox Judaism was punctilious and not about the details, I am confused because punctilious means showing great attention to detail or correct behavior. Perhaps he meant to say he thought Orthodox Judaism was indeed punctilious because of its attention to details. Certainly to the non-Orthodox, Orthodox Judaism often does seem too focused on details and loses the big picture. Some Orthodox seem nit-picky and obsessive compulsive. How did Yehuda Pryce deal with these criticisms and come to embrace Orthodox Judaism?
