Thanks so much for putting this interview up, especially with subtitless so that the people all over the world can see and appreciate how beautiful they are...!
An interesting and insightful interview. You can easily tell that these three long-time friends have great respect and deep affection for each other and for the body of work they've jointly created. I'd love to see them perform live someday. Thanks for sharing this post and for the English subs.
I miss sakamoto and takahashi.... Stil have all their YMO and solo albums on vinyl....i think they make together great music in heaven... And hosono likes it ❤
They seem very comfortable with themselves and very at peace, instead of looking incredibly depressed as they did in videos like Kimi Ni Mune Kun. I'm happy they seemed so positive!
@sctaber56 And now I hear that YMO will be returning to the US this June to perform together at the Hollywood Bowl. in Los Angeles. If at all possible, I hope to be in the audience so I can experience the magic of their wonderful music live and in person! It's one of my dreams.
Sakamoto's father was really strict and Sakamoto didn't like his father very much. That thing turned into a sense that he hated older generation and Hosono is five years older than Sakamoto. That's why Sakamoto would have an aggressive attitude towards Hosono but it was not punch and kick thing. They said it was more a feeling of tension. Hosono didn't understand what was going on at the time. But Hosono and Sakamoto talked about it on a radio show in 2007 which would become a historical radio show for YMO fans later, I guess. It was surprisingly the first time to talk between just two of them privately and Sakamoto talked about his father. I guess Hosono was vaguely aware that Sakamoto hated older people and once he heard about Sakamoto's farther, he immediately realized what had been going on. "Oh, that's his father...." Now Sakamoto regrets his attitude very much and he said he really wanted to punch himself in that era and he was so sorry. I guess Sakamoto thinks YMO, Takahashi and Hosono are very important things in his life and he really wanted to take it back. I also had a warm thing in my heart when I heard this story.
