Lean, mean and with a color that make large trout go bananas :0) Slimline articulated streamer fly, that makes a good alternative to the more compact sculpin style articulated streamers. It's an easy tie, the materials are cheap and it's a killer (even though we probably release most of the fish anyway ;0)

Beautiful! That's a real pig bait, for sure. I'm thinking of maybe using bunny strip instead of maribou. But, will try it both ways. TYVM
@MichaelJensensAngling
@MichaelJensensAngling 6 лет назад
And thank you for your feedback, Gerald. A bunny strip would work great, but give a more fat and solid appearance. The Monster Bugger is more airy and transparent. I do a lot of bunny style flies as well, though. They are great producers. Tight lines, Michael :0)

Wow I can't believe I didn't comment on this, I must have been shy or new to the channel. Floating Cities fits the airy description of the pattern as you said. Nice to go back and see your older format. Awesome pattern. Worthy of 100,000 + views. Thanks my friend.

Thanks Joe. Yeah it is kind of funny to see the old videos. This one is ok. We do things differently now - but i guess it's a natural process. Some of my very first videos sucks, but at least they help visualize the progress. Cheers my friend, Michael :0)

@@MichaelJensensAngling I wouldn't say they suck, all the patterns are great. I've learned a lot of patterns and techniques from you, plus your knowledge of flies, fly tiers, history, and fishing in general is awesome. You handle all comments with grace, never saying your way is best, always offering what works from your experience. Your blog is awesome, people should visit it, I should do so more often - I've barely scratched the surface. I love film, your videos check all the boxes for me, being both informative and entertaining. Speaking of which, check out Jackie Venson. I watched her band last night on Austin City Limits. Excellent guitarist and vocalist, imho, in the blues genre. Take care buddy!

Nice and not too fussy,Larry Dahlberg said : if you spend more than 10 min. on a streamer,you're waisting time,these fit perfectly in those 10 min. (with some practice 😉)I use them for Northern pike (tied on slightly bigger hooks) I like the Bacon Snack too. Greetings from Belgium!

Nice fly, Unfortunately I could not fish with it unless the hook in the front were either cut off or a paddington shank were used. Only one hook per fly for us here in Maine. Two hooks for catch and release only is not allowed. Looks like it has enough movement for the fish to go for so I will tie it and cut off the front hook. No lead here either, brass, tungsten but no lead. It was killing all the Loons and contaminating the water. All the best and thanks for sharing. Sean
@MichaelJensensAngling
@MichaelJensensAngling 8 лет назад
Hi Sean. Thank you for your comment. I know rules and regulations aren't the same everywhere - but this fly will fish just fine without the front hook bend/point. So bring out your pliers. All the best, Michael :0)

Really cool. Suddenly I’m actually thinking of tying some articulated flies. How does it hold up without a reinforcing rib for the schlappen? My local waters have some toothy critters lurking.
@MichaelJensensAngling
@MichaelJensensAngling 4 года назад
Thanks Paul. Initially I tied the Yellow Monster Bugger for trout, but it has proven itself effective for all predators. For trout I feel that the Schlappen hold up very well, since the stem is protected by the fat body material. For pike, musky and saltwater critters a rib will make the fly much more durable. Tight lines, Michael :0)

Cool fly. Why do you attach the eyes under hook eye instead of on top? So it doesn’t ride hook point up?
@MichaelJensensAngling
@MichaelJensensAngling 2 года назад
Hi and thanks for your feedback. I takes a pair of really heavy eyes to turn this hackled fly upside down, since it has two hook bends to counteract the weight of the eyes. Much easier to do with a fly, that has a wing. That's why i went for the better balance with the hooks pointing down. Cheers, Michael :0)

Can i tie the same fly two 6/0 hooks?
@MichaelJensensAngling
@MichaelJensensAngling 7 лет назад
Hi Charles, I can see no reason why you shouldn't. Just choose some really long fibered schlappen feathers for the palmer hackle - and maybe some wire for the connection. Then you should be ready to chase big game. Tight lines, Michael :0)

Hi Elaina, It is a large streamer, but it offers no problems on a 7 or 8 weight rod. I even use a 5 or 6 weight occasionally. The important part isn't really the rod. Choosing the right line is crucial, though. Most kinds of saltwater/bass bug tapered weight forward designs works great for me. Tight lines, Michael :0)
