This song is hands down one of the best songs ever , let alone one of the best soundtrack songs that goes perfectly with the narrative of the movie . Amazing interlude . So epic
You should have seen me when the Soundtrack CD came out. 10 year old me replayed this song SO much. If CDs worked the way VHS tapes did, the song would be unrecognizable because of the amount of sheer amount of times this was replayed.
@@Jim_The_Fish I remember when walmart used to have the demo booths with new CD releases. I played the shit out of this specific track very loud with no regrets
They're doing a reunion tour right now in case you haven't heard since they announced it last year during Riot Fest. It's to celebrate the anniversary of Ocean Avenue.
Coming back from 2024 and still remember what happened in my life in 2004 through this song. Yeah, its 20th years ago. Thanks for making good music YC.
It was always cool to me that this song is about what Peter is going through in the movie, even the title "gifts and curse" and the "my gift is a curse" line in a song is a reference to Peter's line at the end of the first movie. "This is my gift, it is my curse, who am I? I'm Spider-Man."
What a beautiful song. Really captures the themes and tone of the movie perfectly. Mary Jane being tired of waiting for Peter to admit his feelings so she settles for John Jameson, a guy she knows will be there for her. Peter being unable to admit his feelings out of fear of putting her in danger. The orange sunset aesthetic we so associate with Spider-Man because of these movies, how Ryan Key puts us in Spider-Man's shoes as he's gracefully swinging through the city and the sadness Peter feels making all these sacrifices. I miss when movies had meaningful soundtracks like this. Train's Ordinary, Dashboard Confessional's Vindicated and 3 Doors Down's Let Me Go. All of these songs capture the themes and tone of this movie expertly. They don't make em like they used to.
The tried and tested formula for playing this fantastic song. Step 1: Put your volume on the absolute highest it can be. Step 2: Start playing the song Step 3: Experience immediate extreme adrenaline rush. Step 4: Start swearing because the volume is still not loud enough for your taste. Step 5: Repeat the song 500 times Step 6: Say to self, "Okay, just once more" Step 7: Merrily continue to play it another 25 times. Step 8: Give Spotify the mid finger for not having it available. The above is the only way this song can be listened to efficiently.
Mary belongs to the words of a song I try to be strong for her Try not to be wrong for her She will not wait for me anymore, anymore Why did I say all those things before I was sure She is the one But I have a purpose She is the one And I have to fight this She is the one The villain I can't knock down I see your face with every punch I take Every bone I break Its all for you And my worst pains are words I cannot say Still I will always fight on for you Mary's alive In the bright New York sky And the city lights shine for her And above them, I cry for her Every thing's small on the ground below, Down below What if I fall then Where would I go Would she know She is the one All that I wanted She is the one And I will be haunted She is the one This gift is my curse for now... I see your face with every punch I take And every bone I break Its all for you And my worst pains are words I cannot say Still I will always fight on for you I see your face with every punch I take And my worst pains are words I cannot say Still I will always fight on for you Fight on for you Fight on for you
These would have to be my favorite songs from Spider-Man 2: 1. Who I Am 2. Vindicated 3. Meant to Live 4. Give it Up 5. Gifts & Curses 6. We Are 7. This Photograph is Proof (I Know You Know)
Such a beautiful song! It perfectly describes and fits the Raimi Spider-Man trilogy: Honestly, identity, choice, sacrifice, dreams, power, responsibility, forgiveness, etc. This song has it all. Spotify doesn’t deserve this masterpiece!!
[SPOILER] . . . . . . . . . . . . I think this song resonates with No Way Home (NWH) in a sense that both NWH and Spider-Man 2 highlighted the identity conflict of Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Spider-Man 2 showed us what happens when Peter Parker chose to be Peter Parker (in the end, he still became Spider-Man) but in NWH, Peter Parker chose to be Spider-Man (completely) after everything that happened. It is interesting what MCU Spider-Man 4 will show us after that decision. In both movies, we see a similar conflict and same themes making this song a good fit for NWH, also.
Damm! I loved this album. It literally had every track that alternative rock lovers would've listened to, not to mention, Yellowcard, Train, Dashboard Confessional, Hoobastank, and others on this album were huge names in alternative rock at the time.
Started listening to YC in 2004, absolutely one of my favorite bands, and this song is at the top no question, and it's crazy that its not even included on one of their albums. It has everything, and for me its as close to a perfect song as I've heard.
The picture tells the story, with the music in the background. How I imagine it, is MaryJane, being attacked, by gangs, villains, but she is always saved by her protector, her saviour, who loves her. There is something beautiful and magical about it.
I just can't with this song....one of the most electrifying performances by yellow card and is truly a display of their great talent.... Unbelievable.... Gives me goodies Everytime.
Being involved with martial arts now and wanting (when the time is right) to find someone, this song as a stand-alone (no scenes synchronized to it) has a new feeling. Instead of seeing it as Peter doing so much for MJ, I think of what I’d do for my own MJ… and what I’ve done for he love of BJJ. Two very different loves
As great as 'Vindicated' is - and it's very very good - this is the best song on that soundtrack and maybe ever by Yellowcard. Should have been the song they lead with promoting the movie!
Can't believe I never heard this song before. Spider-Man 2 is one of my favourite movies but I don't know why I never checked the soundtrack album. It's fucking awesome.
I see your face when every punch I take And every bone I break I'ts all for you And my worst pain the words I cannot say Still I will always fight on for you.
Love the Baroque part in the middle. It's incredibly beautiful and easily my favourite part of the song. I bought the soundtrack recently just for this song. Damn Yellowcard for not putting this on streaming services!
This is the best song for a comic book movie and I can't think of any other song written for the genre that even comes close (though I confess to finding Venom by Eminen to be a guilty pleasure).
@@firdauszainudin7118 I am a Yellowcard megafan, I've heard all their stuff so much (minus the pre-Ryan Key stuff). My favorite song on WYTTSY is actually the B-Side 'Promises,' although thats a pretty good project for the entire runtime. Favorite on Paper Walls is definitely 'Date Line' for me, but 5becomes4 and B-Side 'Bombers' are other favorites. I'd say those two albums are roughly equal in quality. Southern Air (album) is better than both, I'd say.
Somehow when a soundtrack has Danny Elfman, Jet, and B.J. Thomas, Yellowcard ends up making the best song on the album and not releasing it fully outside of a live acoustic version of it.
I can't stop listening to this, thank you. Here's my story, I served as a SOF army ranger. My job was to take out bad guys. I was good at what I did. However, it came with a price. I couldn't tell my wife anything about my job. One day she told me to make a decision. Her or my Job. I chose the latter. To a degree i have some regrets. But I had a important job, and the job was bigger than my wants.
