I work in Yellowstone during the summer months and I have seen so many people violate the distance rule. I even seen some walk up to a bison bull and try to feed him a carrot. People are always worried about being hurt by a bear , but most people are hurt by bison and elk in the park. Most of the big bison herds are in Lamar or Hayden valley.

The idiocy of urbanites never ceases to amaze me period, I have been involved in Search and Rescue and as a Firefighter-Medic for years and some of the asinine situations these idiots can get themselves into is beyond belief, every time they leave the city they should be in a giant indestructible bubble wrap suit otherwise Darwin's natural selection will get them

Yellowstone might be 'pretty' & all but it's also a very dangerous place to be. Old Faithful is not faithful any more because of all the many earthquakes & water table changes. Some folks have had their shoes nearly burned off just going to their cars. They don't advertise that stuff. Even many animals have tried to leave some places of the park. Basically though a 'beauitful place one must not forget Yellowstone is a massive group of volcanoes that are changing contantly. If they ever blow it will effect the whole world. Just saying.

Wow, that close-up of the elk was awesome, what a beautiful lake and with the elk in front of that view too. Once a teacher, always a teacher... Please don't ever change Dusty. Great video and thank you for sharing your family va-ca with us, take care and God bless..

I read a news story about a week ago and it was talking about a woman that had been attacked by a bison in a state park in Texas. In the story, the woman was on a trail walking and some bison came into the area she was at. She stated that she was actually trying to ignore them as she was trying to get some distance between herself and the bison. Then one of the bison charged her and threw her into the air. She landed in some mesquite plants and had to wait about an hour for help to arrive. She was trying to be respectful and put distance between herself and the bison. She stated that she still must have been too close to them and that's why she was attacked. She didn't blame the bison at all and even said for people to maintain their distance for safety. It made me think of your video about the attacks in Yellowstone and you telling people to keep their distance. Love your channel, your adorable little family, the bison and I'm so incredibly fascinated by these majestic creatures. Keep up the awesome work.

One of the interesting videos that I believe was put out by the park's biologists is the effect of reintroducing the wolf packs in Yellowstonr. It stabilized the river banks and meadows and helped control the size of the deer and elk herds to keep the park's biome in a healthier balance.

Great education Dusty regarding fire. Here in Washington state north of me before the fire big fires last year, the wild flowers and natural grasses would only be nice for a short time in spring and they were more dull each year. This year, it was so incredibly beautiful. The natural grasses were beautiful and the wild flower were abundant and bright in color and they stayed that way until mid July. I was in awe. Sorry for so many comments I'm totally digging this

I'm glad you took the time to talk about the positive aspect of forest fires (controlled burns are always preferable). I remember the Smokey Bear commercials and how important it is to prevent forest fires. It was not until my 20s that I learned that some plant species actually depend on fires for their seed to germinate. My favorite scene is the one of the sunset and bison in the field. Worth framing.

And, it's not just Yellowstone Park. I lived in Alaska for over 30 years and the confrontations between bears and people both in and out of parks...People, no matter what the animals is, they are all wild and dangerous. Alaska has an actual law that says it's against the law to wake a sleeping bear to take a picture...now you know someone had to do something stupid to create such a law. Just sayin'. I agree with you that 25 yes is too close to the wildlife. You especially want to be careful of moose. I was taught to walk quietly in the forest. Because of that, I've been closer than the 25 yards a number of times. These occur when coming around a trail bend or around a large bush in a meadow. I was taught to freeze and stand very still or to slowly back away from the animal if too close. You don't want to scare them most of the time. Now, in bear country, you just want to hike noisy. Shaking a can of pebbles or a metal can tied to clank on your pack. With bears and cougar, you really want to keep your eyes and ears open in all directions. Great message on the role of fire. This is a really good video. BTW, my first trip to Yellowstone was in '63 back at the time bears begged from the cars. That was really dangerous.

My husband and I went to Jasper National park (Alberta Canada) for a holiday one year in October. It was off season, after summer, before winter, so everything was priced dirt cheap. Well, it was also mating season for the Elk, and they were everywhere. I was scared of them, but the people who lived there year round just walked by like it was nobodies business. One person told me that the majority of the Elk there are born there, around the people. They know that the people aren't going to hurt them. The most dangerous time to be there was during mating season. The young "bucks" smell the females and get a bit of a rage towards others sometimes. There are wild life officers on hand at all times for situations like that. The boys get a nap, relocated to the edge of town, to calm down. They do it right.
