This was our Yeoman on our guided tour of London Tower. He is hilarious. If you ever go visit London Tower, I highly recommend taking this free guided tour. Yeoman warder Bill Callaghan
This is a different Beefeater than we had on our tour of the Tower, but ours was just as entertaining and delivered his stories with great gusto and made some of the girls squeal when he startled them and overall it was a fantastic and memorable day out.
Notice that the emblem on the front of his tunic says "E II R" denoting Elizabeth Regina, aka Queen Elizabeth the Second who sadly is no longer with us. I assume that as we speak the Tower authorities will be busy making new tunics denoting "C III R" or Charles Rex for King Charles the Third.
Gurhka's do not need to draw blood if they draw their Kukri. They use it for everything. (A point is made on the British Army website) but it sounds cool when the Guides say it.
Buffetiers were guards in the palace of French kings. They protected the king's food. However, the name Beefeater is more likely to have originated from the time when the Yeomen Warders at the Tower were paid part of their salary with chunks of beef. This took place right up until the 1800s.
The dude's name is William Edward Callaghan. He keeps popping up on my feed and he comments on most of the videos containing him. Seems like he hasn't got to this video though. Just a btw he retired I think it was last year at least that's when the video of his retirement was posted.
