John F. Kennedy has been attributed with the phrase “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike.” This phrase defines my cycling experience on this smoke shrouded afternoon in and around Granby.
The formal rail trail (La Route Verte 1) in combination with locally developed regional trails has left me basking in the pleasure of cycling in this area. The Granby area is a little known gem that presented me with a series of new surprises today - of course the trail-side sculptures continued to bring me and my bike to unexpected stops and lingerings.
And as I was winding up the afternoon portion of my ride, the Yamaska River revealed a stunning trail and elevated river walking structure and viewing platform out to the west of the city. I also discovered a trail side park honoring the schools and children of Granby and and a linked trail/bridge from La Route Verte 1 to the downtown area of the city-center of Granby.
I ended with a minor camera audio malfunction but salvaged some of the footage to share with you the homes and parks as I explored a local trail that circled around the western shore of Lac Boivin on my way back to my little tent in the Yamaska National Park. One takeaway on this afternoon bike ride was just how many Canadian senior citizens make use of this wonderful trail system… summed up by a video snippet of a very old man riding in his electric cart blaring out an old rock classic tune - La Bamba - smiling to himself.
Right then I knew this was a perfect day for a bike ride.
