Holy shit. I just realized that 17 year old me used the song "Changes" to get over my high school sweet heart. 30 years later, I realized that I can use the same song to get over my ex-wife. Thanks, Trevor and Yes!!!

Saw them of first leg two years ago and it was fantastic. I am one of those who loves the Rabin era lineup and 90125 is a top 10 desert island disc. Virtuosity, Melody and songwriting are fantastic. Two vocalists adds a great variety and they blend so well. This is a well done audience recording. Sounds great and thanks for sharing.

90125, Big Generator and Talk are amazing albums to me after all of this time. Love this lineup. Yet I loved Peter, Tony, Bill, Chris and Jon. Then Steve, Tony, Bill, Chris and Jon. Then Steve, Rick, Bill, Chris and Jon. Followed with Steve, Rick, Alan, Chris and Jon. Then Steve, Patrick, Alan, Chris and Jon. Back to Steve, Rick, Alan, Chris and Jon. Onward to Steve, Geoff, Alan, Chris and Trevor. Onto Trevor, Tony, Alan, Chris and Jon!!! Cheers

Exactly! I saw Yes with Jon Davidson and even bought their album. I went to see Yes because I thought I may never get a chance to see them again. It was Yes music and I enjoyed it better than I thought. But watching this and hearing Anderson's voice, I realize how different the two sound. His voice makes this band sound very close to 1979. Now, they got to come back to Michigan.

Although they are very tough to see from this angle, the new guys Molino & Pomeroy play their a$$e$ off and they thoroughly enjoy playing Yes music. They are NOT hired guns but play as integral members of the band. Although I miss Howe, Trevor Rabin saved the band from extinction. I don't have a sufficient answer for your great comment/question. I just think that people have grown up with the album's that pulled them through their whole lives; like everyone knows how John Bonham's Speed King Ludwig drum pedal squeaks throughout "Since I've Been Loving You." And we've literally had these songs grow into our lives DNA. And so when we see something such as this Not Even Live-such as this audience is experiencing it; and we expect to hear it like we've heard it all our lives. But like you said - these are just men. They wrote, recorded, toured this stuff and moved on. I think if they were there live these people who view the show on RU-vid and make comments about everything they believe they ought to be hearing - if they were experiencing it live they'd be caught up in that magic. I think this is great. Almost unbelievable that Jon can still sing this stuff at all! He's a treasure... But I don't really know what I'm getting at. I just loved your question.

Chris, Alan and Steve could've taken a break from their non-stop touring and waited until Jon recuperated (and they could've worked on other projects if they had a need to play/perform). When was the last time you listened to it? It's not 70's prog for sure, but it's prog. Complex harmonies, irregular rhytms, advanced synthetic sounds. Sorry but AOR pop is another thing. "90125" is a 80's prog album, with 80's sounds and moods, obviously different from 70's albums. The first 2 Marillion albums, "Script for a Jester's Tear" (1983) and "Fugazi" (1984) were were great albums but more commercial than Yes "90125" (1983) and "Big Generator" (1987). And consider that Marillion were labelled as the Prog flagship band on 80's. The single "Owner of a lonely heart" was the only radio hit of "90125", but it's a complex and easy listening song at the same time.

Hey, I love Steve Howe. I love his style, his eclectic composition and performance. Let's face it Howe is Yes as I know them. The '80s line up to me is not Yes and I have seen both line ups live. I saw the classic line up in '78 at MSG where they were touring for Tormato in the round where they just blew the roof off of the place. I also saw them around '83 with the Rabin Kaye line up. Really good, in fact great! But to me that was not Yes. I don't know about him being better than Rabin, he's just different. Rabin is an accomplished composer who's one of the best movie scorers in the business. Think "National Treasure". But I digress. I saw Yes in 2014 with Jon davidson and Geoff Downes. The rest of the line up as you know, Squire, Howe, and White. I was severely disappointed. Almost to the point that I wish I hadn't gone. With the exception of Squire, the rest were just phoning it in. You gotta love Squire, He truly loved what he did! This ARW show looks very exciting where they love what they are doing. That is my point. I don't know that Anderson and Wakeman reuniting with Howe would be any different. I think Howe's best days are behind him.

Music appreciation is purely a subjective experience. That said, my favorite lineup was Anderson, Bruford, Howe, Squire, & Wakeman. But Yes is not yes IMHO without their front man, Jon Anderson. He was a founding member of "Yes," though Squire had controlling power because he started the previous incarnation, "Mabel Greer's Toyshop." Howe came later and was an awesome addition. However Wakeman is the member that really made their signature sound. I really wish Howe and Anderson would make up, because I really miss Howe. But make no mistake Rabin is a classically trained guitar player that I'm sure could play Howe's parts note for note. However he's a head strong player that doesn't like to walk in the footsteps of others, so he always puts his own spin on Howe's parts. Enjoy Yes music my friends, in what ever permutation it happens to be in! It's "Yes" music after all is said and done. Prog at some of it's finest.

I know the Yes purists don't consider Trevor Rabin to be a significant person in the band, but I don't agree. As much as people hate to hear it, 90125 was such a huge album for them, they probably wouldn't have half the fans they have today. 70's Yes was great, but let's face it- it was way too ambitious at times for the mainstream to get it. The accessibility of 90125, with just flat out excellent songwriting from Rabin was something they really needed. It showed everyone that they were capable of creating a really good, more mainstream sound. And it was an entire album of really well crafted songs at that. And let's face it, isn't that the tightrope you really want to walk as a musician? It's great and all creating music that is essentially a pissing contest for musicianship- but if you alienate everyone in the process, what have you really done? 90125 was the album that stopped the pissing contest.

grajmahal they were trying to push musical/artistic boundaries, as art should.
@grajmahal
@grajmahal 6 лет назад
@@Cesarpena Yeah, I know. But they say the same thing about Jackson Pollack. The elitists will say he's a genius, but to me he's just a deluded person that was messy. There's a point where it's just pretentious, and quite frankly a bunch of BS. To me, pushing boundaries in art are the ones that can make a something so incredible through insane methods. Just as an easy example, pointillism. Or they Japanese artist that uses Microsoft Excel to create insanely beautiful images. That's boundaries, my friend. Not saying that Yes is equivalent to Pollack, but they were kind of getting out there for a while.

I think both Trevor Rabin and and Steve how are good players but I give the edge to Steve because he's much more Broad and I'd like to see Trevor switch between three instruments in one song. That being said if I'm going to hear yes music I want John Anderson to be singing and not that other guy that yes is using now and Chris Squire is dead with Billy Sherwood playing and that sucks too so I would pay good money to see this lineup over the regular yes lineup That is practically a tribute now

There's only one YES band the one with Jon Anderson the ONLY voice of YES
@stupiddrama

This is the “Yes” that plays hits. The “real” Yes plays much deeper cuts. Funny is Rick Wakeman never played any of the 90210’s or Big Generator stuff. Great band still. Jon and the boys are killing it. But Yes II? Stretch.. Steve Howe and the band Yes is absolutely %100 a better band IMHO. None of the sillyness. (Saw both tours a couple years back) Now the have Moranz and Downes... what?!?

Without Chris Squire none of this really seems right - either band. Not even if the two were combined. I, also, find it a travesty to his memory to have this stuff happening on their 50th anniversary
