Such great fellows! Jon still visits us from his very special planet. Rick is so rarely is serious. They clearly have so much fun and share that with their audiences.
pure grandeur, and sense of humor, can't get better than this, I don't understand someone commenting negativity, they are obviously grown man, top notch musicians having fun, very interesting interview. Rick Wakeman is Hilarious, love his sense of comedy, while talking amazing facts, Music included, he's got an amazing memory.
Wakeman stole Scotty's time to speak on behalf of her late husband Christopher Russell Edward Squire at the Rock Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and he did it on purpose. He is not a good guy, I can say that much for sure.
Thanks very much for this. I wish the interview had had more content. At times it got bogged down. And apparently the musicians weren't so much into the questions, so they played music. So many questions could have been asked about the history of Yes, the many albums, the songs; how do they feel about the band called Yes, questions about how Rabin composes movie scores, so much to ask. Too bad, but I believe these guys are as modest and straightforward as they came across. Wakeman's sense of humor is great. Rabin discussing composing 'Owner.' We can wonder if Yes would still be around if that song had not been created, it put Yes in the consciousness of anyone who likes rock music.
They get asked about the real Yes all the time and they usually just say " We don't like them" or "they are a tribute band" or similar. But given the total amount of collective Yes albums and years in Yes served the current Yes has compared to ARW members, ARW is most certainly the cover band. And if I asked them a question, I'd ask them if they feel that bashing Yes and stealing their name is a good way to honor Squire?
To me it's which is the better band. And from these videos I think ARW is much better. The Yes band just plays the songs and I guess that's the best they can do. ARW really makes the songs interesting. They are a real band, the energy is great. The 3 Yes guys plus 2 obviously great musicians to play the rhythm section. I can't comment about honoring Squire or not. The ARW bass player is almost as good as Squire (look at his credentials, he's played with the best) and also sings very fine background vocals. Of course the Anderson-Squire vocals were incredible, yet another reason those old songs were so amazing. Anderson spoke to Squire before he died. I don't think there were any hard feelings between them. If Squire were alive it would be interesting to observe this "controversy," because Squire and Rabin got along very well.
I've seen both bands a few times in recent years. ARW can't get thru a whole show without train wrecking something. and there's usually many other more minor mistakes. The real Yes is far more close to flawless. That's been my experience. But maybe others have different. But I watch a lot of videos of both bands. The videos all seem to match what I'm saying. But sure there is gonna be some exceptions to all that at some point.
Some people take themselves way too seriously..obviously these guys don't ...yet they produce such fantastic and brilliant music. Might be a lesson in there for some of the people commenting here. This wasn't the time or place to get into some heavy and deep discussion about all the lyrics and music they have made over the years or all the band's history. I think they just wanted to keep it light and fun. At this stage in their careers why do any touring or playing if it isn't enjoyable and fun? I think the music they produce on the stage speaks for itself. Even in the short jam session here you see how brilliant and gifted they are. Can you imagine spending an evening with them watching them jam different songs or make them up?
I agree completely. The fact they discuss or name check topics as diverse as Skid Marks , Soccer , The The & sing Cliff is absolutely priceless stuff 👍
So funny how many eye rolls Jon throws. Poor chap, he has a sense of humor but seems to feel like they should be talking about deeper things. Love 'em all.
I'll take the ARW Yes over Steve Howe's Yes, but honestly I don't think Jonesy is aware there is another Yes outside of ARW. And the guys really avoided the question about new stuff. Why?
Jones asked Rabin about the real Yes during an interview in July. Rabin said "we don't like them" or something of that nature. You can search it out. It's here on youtube.
daddysensei Silver New MUSIC! What is the hold up? " Skeletons", since 2012 or so. FRAGILE is so demo. No beginning, or end Jon singing on Trevor's 2015 TV tune. Rick doing the normal, accending, decending thing....totally on top. Guys....U R BRILLIANT MUSICIANS. WHERE IS THIS NEW MUSIC WE KEEP HEARING OF?
I can't stand the guy; he clearly knows little about the band and is fucking disrespectful: "I've seen all the good people"...Seriously?!? Nearly 50 years on the radio and he doesn't know the name of the song??
Smart Fart - are you surprised ?? After all he was part of the contemptuous upstart movement that has all but destroyed music .... along with rap and techno of course ... but that's music for drones.
If they hadn't been such adversaries in the 70s, they probably could've learned a thing or two from each other. At the very least, they could've joined together to defeat the REAL enemy... disco! :)
Jon Anderson, Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin collectively are well over THREE times older than Steve Jones, but Jones appears to be loads older than them.
Rick Wakeman used to play Golf at Sandown Park Esher (Surrey) in the mid 80s. I worked there at the time and used to say Hello, he is such a Down to Earth and Brilliant Man, love the Bloke !!
I give Anderson credit for explaining how Yes came from Mabel Greer's Toyshop. It dispels the popular myth that he formed Yes out of nothing. He actually didnt form Yes at all. As he said, himself, he joined an already existing band with Banks and Squire (and others).
donutcookiepie, more utter rubbish from you again! Don't you ever get sick of talking absolute anal? Anderson has always talked that historical rave, it is only you sort of fools who try to dig up dirt, from where is it again? The band Yes is a different band to Squire's previous band! What part of that is it that you cannot understand? Oh that's right, the truthful part of it!
HEY that's my joke from 1983! I was maybe 12/13! me and my friends were deciding who to get to ride one of the neighbor's Odessey(that is a dunebuggy from Honda in that period) it was some stupid "Grandma mosas sit'n in her rock'n chair eat'n on her underware what color did she get?" so I said Brown on the back yellow on the front near that stupid fly thingy. it got a laugh then we were all hysterical, but now it would be just everyday as most people talk like that old and young. B-R-O-W-N-A-N-D-Y-E-L-L-O-W of course as always I never got to ride the damned thing! my brother got the right, and like a woosie he turned it down.
It’s a Lancashire accent which Jon has added american tones to with living out in California. The accent was much thicker when he was younger at the end of the 60s and early 70s.
Bruford retired from drumming (tragic), probably due to age. Howe is busy with his Yes tribute band and looks absolutely awful. Not a good example of veganism.
I thought this world couldn’t get stranger but a Sex Pistol interviewing Yes is something I never expected. I always loved them both but that’s the oddball I am & always was 🏴❤️👍ps Skid Marks ,Football ,The The & a Cliff Richard song ! ( I thought Matt Johnson grew up in a tough London Pub but I wouldn’t argue with old Jon )😄😄😄THANKYOU VLAD
GOD. three GODS in the conversations! Jones (simplicity, power, detectness), Anderson (vision, spirit) and Wakeman (presence, wit). Rabin I was never a fan of, sorry, but I'll wait for the end of the interview.
Maybe Jon has alot.of new music he wants out there. His passion is YES, the other two have so many other things going on But yeah, he looks a little high.
Sat in Rick,s kitchen drinking tea and listening to bloody marvelous stories, one story would lead to the next,ie celebraty clay pigeon shooting with the royals.
Ah ha! When Rick talks about Russ Conway, that's to whom he got the idea during the Going For The One sessions (1976) here on RU-vid, while "conducting" Alan, Steve, & Chris to turn around at the cameraman and smile those great big grins! Very brilliant, Rick!
Entertainment, Anderson doesn't want to be there it seems, especially at the start & i can see why! Wakeman needs to drop the 'dirty' jokes, there are plenty of opportunities for great humour, without the filth element. Otherwise it is all good fun, Jones enjoyed the 'Young Ones' sing a long. Classic!
Interesting how some people love this interview and some people hate it. I don't hate it. I like to see my musical "heroes" enjoying themselves and not taking themselves too seriously, but skid marks in the underwear of overweight elderly British men just doesn't do it for me. To each their own.
Woooo Yarrrrr.. Yeahhhh.. And constant interrupting from the audience, has to be an American audience. Jon Anderson is not in the same interview lol Also someone called Chuck who cannot hear the idiot :)
Blues, thankfully this is not a version of YES. It's three x-yesmen that have jumped on the Hall Of Fame bandwagon. Fame and money that's what this little outfit is about. They play the music of a band none of them are members of anymore. The man in the interview is a namesake.
Blues and Steve...agreed! However I think Rabin is able to play Howe's parts but choses to play them very different. Its his choice. But I sure don't like all of it.
And Steve most certainly CAN do Trevor's parts. They both like to play them differently. But I will take Howe playing Owner over Rabin playing Roundabout any day of the week. It's like Rabin is playing a different song entirely.
Steve has a very unique style that has become a sort of signature. A person can discern that it's Steve playing when a piece is heard for the first time. A reason for that is the shape and length of Steve's fingers. Trevor has more average fingers, so he can't get to some of the chords that Steve can. Because of Steve's unusual style his might be the generally less liked. People are more used to hearing Trevor's style of play. Steve's fingers have helped him to become one of the leading guitarists in the world.
Damn.... Jon is always class. U can see he is so tired of Rick's woren out "humor". A very insecure man to continue making potty jokes. Love Rick's work, but this is not the place for your act.
Wtf do you know about it? Everyone knows Howe has the biggest ego of the band. Not even an original member yet he now has the right to the name!! Ppl shouldn't hate on Trevor either. He breathed new life into the band. Yes should have been no more after Chris died anyway. Period.
What a waste of a programme... aimless drivel, toilet humour, virtually nothing about music - and they avoided the question about new ARW music completely. Sad.
