Yes - Fly From Here Live 2011 (Pro-shot) with Benoît David 

I respect the band for still recording music and still playing live, but for me it’s not the same without Chris. Chris was the heart of the band for me. I miss him so much. He’s one of the only musicians that brought me to tears after hearing about his passing. His music just connected deeply with me.

I was at the Canandaigua show, too.

saw this show in South Boston 2012. Very good. The show I saw was one of the first featuring Jon Davison as Benoit David had gotten ill.

I was at that show too. The Canandaigua show the year before was much stronger though. Benoit was having vocal issues at the 2011 performance and Geoff Downes was missing cues & messing up keyboard fills too many times to count!

You can safely remove that word "probably" from your statement :)

Check out the "From a Page" EP from 2010 also! It wasn't released until a couple years ago but it's great

My belief was Anderson would not sing any song recorded by others? Not aware of him ever singing and Drama songs

It was really for me the last Yes album I payed attention to. Heaven & Earth is ok, but it’s not one of my favorites. I only like really 3 songs on it. I respect the band for still playing live and putting out music, but for me it’s not the same. Not without Chris.

@@nickavenoso7851 You have to hear the "From a Page" EP...recorded in 2010 with Benoit on vocals & Oliver Wakeman on keyboards, but not released until a couple years ago.

@@JimSVoit I've heard that EP and it's really good. That was really the last Yes thing I payed attention to. I'm not saying that the other albums are not Yes, but they just didn't grab me as much as the others did.

Davison's hippy dippy fake Jon Anderson stage presence is cringeworthy. He might be technically a better singer, but Benoit's voice is more unique, at least to my ears.

Have you seen Trevor Horn's live version of Fly From Here? Imo, not bad at all. He's come a long way since 1981. He doesn't try to sound like anyone else.

@@edcollins9377 do you have hearing issues? Jon Anderson is one of the greatest singers ever and his voice is remarkably little changed for a man in his seventies.

Just as squire is irreplaceable, so is Anderson.

I'm gonna say Benoit was a good replacement for Anderson. I've been a huge fan for 50 years, but at some point, they all need to retire, and Jon wasn't writing the kinds of music the band wanted to play. Plus he had health issues. Benoit over Jon Davison any day. Davison's voice is always pretty and has no bite - Anderson could wail. And Alan White should have retired 20 years ago. Wakeman (and Squire, I believe) held the view YES should continue on with new blood for many years, and I agree.

@@ikkenhisatsu7170 Agreed with these comments. Had the pleasure of meeting Alan multiple times, lovely man but his playing had really slipped. Benoit was a better fit for Yes than Jon D who works fine as a Yes tribute singer. They should have stuck with Oliver, he was suberb. Downes really brings the band down... no pun intended. I would have continued seeing Yes with Oliver and Benoit even after Chris passed. This is a band I have seen since the mid 70's, loved them but they really went down hill without Chris. The sloppy playing of Downes was more obvious without Chris. Squire was such towering musician... one of my favorites. Just my two cents.

Very well said. I always felt the same exact way. Downes is ok on his own/solo material but really a sloppy hack on Wakemans parts in particular. Now Jon D is a good singer but he is a good fit for a Yes tribute band but Benoit really fit in better with the real thing in my opinion.

Benoit brought his own style instead of the current muppet trying desperately to sound like Anderson. This was definitely the last credible version of Yes. Should have stopped with the passing of the great Chris Squire.

Yes has always been a revolving door of excellent musicians. Geoff is not Rick, who is not Tony. Appreciate them all

The last Yes album I really had interest in was Fly From Here. I like Benoit better than Davison. Shame that he started to have problems with his voice. Davison’s voice is too soft and mellow for the classic songs like Close to the Edge and others, imho. He has no bite in his sound. Benoit has a lot more roundness in his tone.

Love the whole Mystery catalog, the new album just released 2 months ago is awesome. Yes has barely written a listenable song since 90215 years.

You can hear Benoit is having problems on this night, it wasn’t long after this tour, that he was replaced by John Davison.

Anderson developed some health problems (chronic bronchitis, I think?) that left him unable to sing up to par. Perhaps because of plans to tour already being made (which, for these guys, starts with simply clearing big blocks of time of future work), the rest of the band decided to carry on without him so they picked up a Yes tribute band singer whose day job was boat repair. I saw them when they toured with Benoit and enjoyed it a lot; he carried the material admirably and I'm glad they recorded with him once.

Disagree Davidson is much more consistent

I love Benoit, I'm friends with a number of members of his old band Mystery. but this couldnt be further from the truth. Davison is by far the better yes singer, his voice is much better suited for the band, and I recommend you listen to the albums Davison did with a band called Glass Hammer

@Benjamin Waterhouse I respect your opinion and I can hear more thickness in Benoits voice. Maybe with age Davidson will get that. Have been seeing yes for 4 decades and will support them and also Anderson too. At this point none of the people that I/we grew up on will be around much longer. peace Paul

Can't agrree more regarding Jon Anderson having no equal. I'd rather see him in any format than the current version of Yes. But as far as the 2 replacement singers, Benoit was a much better fit in my opinion. And how much better was Oliver Wakeman than Geoff Downes!!!

Benoit was having respiratory problems at this time. You can see him start to cough at 42:04 after that high note in And You and I. He would end up having to leave the band due to it. They sound good here. Yeah, maybe a couple of mistakes and things, but it was mostly ok. I miss Squire a lot. The band’s not the same without him for me. He was the heart of the band, imho.

@@nickavenoso7851 I'm not slagging the band. Just commenting on this particular performance. I have a soundboard recording of the show I was at and, for whatever reasons, it was overall, a much better performance than this one. The only thing that I think could have been improved at that show I saw, would be to have Wakeman's keyboards a little higher in the mix.

@@stevegardiner8473 Was that show from this same tour? This show has Geoffrey Downes on keyboards and you mentioned Rick Wakeman. This concert may not recorded and filmed the best, but it’s not terrible. I wasn’t saying that you were slagging the band. I was just saying that Benoit was having problems with his voice, so he wasn’t really perfect and that was responding to the Anderson comment.

@@nickavenoso7851 It'd been a while since I watched this. My mistake, I'd seen them the previous tour, Oliver Wakeman on the keys. I still think the whole band are a bit off on this. It's certainly not all down to BD having vocal problems.

watch the recent vids of jon with the paul green rock academy. hes 77 and still got it..caught the show in Montclair NJ and he sounded like he was still 35

Agree! that "remaster" was a complete disaster and disrespect for Benoit David great work.

I refuse to listen to Return Trip it's a total ego massage for Trevor Horn and completely unnecessary. I do love the original.

I love Yes. They've been a lifelong favorite of mine. But I agree. At some point you've gotta stop trying to sound like you did 40 yrs ago. It's ok. We get old. I'd rather hear something new or at least totally different arrangements of the old. Plenty of bands out there that can cover the originals more convincingly. come on guys ! they are still a legend for their music, regardless to the age. I think they deserve a bit more respect and compassion :)

They will always be a favorite of mine. But I think once they moved on from Jon they became a bit of a cover band of their younger selves. But still. Very special bunch of musicians for me. I've seen them so many times over the years both as a band and individually. Cried like a baby when Chris Squire died. One of the hardest parts of getting older for me is losing favorite musicians. But we've always got the music to listen to.

yep and their music will keep on well after we've gone :) . Never seen them but I am going at the end of March to Paris. There only will be Steve Howe but looking forward to it as the Yes vibes and energy will be there, without a doubt :)

he is truly awful...saw them in Greensboro, NC at Carolina Theater, it was amazing save the vocals...it's great to see all the prog bands in theaters, it really does justice to the amazing level of musicianship...
