I posted this up so I didn't have to finish the game next time to enjoy this song... That was 11 years ago, and 2 years before the Remaster cut the song from the end credits, which is when this video exploded in views from people missing the song after finishing the game. Still the biggest mistake to remove the song for the credits. In a sense, it encapsulates the message of Homeworld into nearly ten minutes of music. It's a shame, truly.

My dad (rest in peace) was always a huge fan of Yes. I remember this game coming out when I was bout 8 or 9 years old and my dad was excited that one of his favorite prog-rock bands had incorporated one of their songs into a Sci-Fi PC game. This song brings back floods of good memories. I miss you, dad - and those lasts lines from this song have always had a special place in my heard for you : "Peace is a word we teach A place for us all to reach Sing as it sings to you As it sings to me As I will always need you inside my heart" I love and miss you dad!

“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.” ― Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space

Probably one of the most atmospheric, as well as, visually beautiful and technically brilliant games I have ever played. Carrying over your entire force (coupled with the ability to capture any large enemy vessel) and resources from one mission to the next, I hadn't seen in a game before Homeworld, the true 3D maps that allowed for multi-vector assaults and ambushes in a 360 degree spherical arena... It was mind blowing for somebody who had been previously used to the Westwood RTS games - C&C/Red Alert/Dune and their clones. This was something else, something new. The pencil-art cinematics and with strong voiceover storytelling and great usic of music only added to the drama - Homeworld didn't need green screened full motion video sequences starring Michael Biehn or John Rhys Davies, it was already plentiful in the great story writing I still remember the "Kharak is burning..." sequence. The ending coupled with this song really brought a lump to my throat, something that rarely happened in my more cynical and nihilist teen years (I would have been about 15 going on 16 when I got this game). It gave me a bit of cred among the music crowd when I went to school talking about how I had gotten into this band called "Yes" - I'd heard Owner of a Lonely Heart on the radio but hadn't really paid much attention to it, it was only later when listening through yes' older stuff that I realized it was the same band. obvious listening to it now, but back then I was totally oblivious. *cough* /Fanboying

Amen brother, this felt like a step change in RTS. The 3D controls were incredibly well implemented, for me it brought the "Lensman" space combat strategy to life. On top of that the emotional charge from start to finish was fantastic, "Kharak is burning" and the end credits both still give me the shivers.

This is only one of a handful of games in my life that I've played more than three times because it is JUST THAT AMAZING. I'm a big fan of RTS games but this is the one that literally brought the game to a whole new level. The expansive battle map makees me feel as if I am truly in control of a space fleet. Then I hear Yes for the first time in the end of the song and it made me cry because it is the culmination of a galaxy-trotting adventure. "You've done it. You've made it. You're home." It is truly magical and I'm still gonna play it again.

When I was 7 years old(2005), I saw the CD cover sold at the mart and bought it because I thought it would be so fun to play SF games, but due to language barriers, I only played games without clearing the campaign. And when I was over 11 years old and learned English and encountered the game again, I finally cleared it for the first time. It was so hard. Over 30 hours, even after the goal was over, we prepared for the next mission by collecting some resources. I started over 10 times in the last mission, but it was so touching when I saw my hometown. That's why I looked like the earth, overcame that difficult hardship, watched the ending credit, and remembered this song forever. Actually, I didn't know the band Yes. However, after I cleared the remaster over 20 years old, I remember the meaning of the lyrics again as I understood the lyrics and their meaning. After this credit, I don't turn over credit scenes such as games and movies. But I don't think there will be a credit like Homeworld forever. It's so nice to listen to it after clearing it again. As a person who develops games, I will cheer up and live.

You were able watch the credits (and listen to the tune) from the main menu at any time without finishing the game, so these are strictly speaking not "ending" credits. ;) But yeah this is such a beautiful tune, and it got me into Yes the band for which I'm eternally grateful. While "The Ladder" album as a whole is not as strong as some of their 70s output such as The Yes Album or Fragile, the song is classic prog rock.

One of the best games I've every played and hearing this music was like a well deserved treat at the end of your saga. This THIS was money well spent on not just a game but a truly great experience of creativity, imagination, and effort. Thank you programmers, artists, and yes even the b.s. legal office. You... all of you.... did a great job getting this to the public. I remember buying this at an electronics store (remember those?) and proudly walking home with my CD bouncing around in the crisp box. Thank you all for this!!!!

Probably be my first pick if I had to have only one game . This is truly a classic game. For those of you that have never played it you should. Even the origa6nl CDs run well on win 10. Give this game a try and you will not be disappointed. If you like RTS this is the game for you. If you want a very cool stoner friendly game look up " The Ur-qua6n Masters " It's old school but a very cool game. Funny as fuck . Some of you know it better as Star Control II I came across this game in 1994 for the 3DO system I still run it on all three of my computers runs well on all of them. Best part it's totally free as is warzone 2100 a6nother great game from the past Thanks for letting me rant =) BBB

Homeworld Remastered: No Yes

No. The game is released to public in BETA test mode. So full paying customers are doing the job that paid game testers should be doing BEFORE the games released. Formations don't work. Tactics - Passive and Aggressive do NOTHING. There is no fuel for light crafts, so no docking required in game... (Just to mention a few problems) Until these issues are sorted out please do not buy the game. They should be paying people to BETA Test it. Not selling it to the customers and making them do it...

Misanthrope What era do you live in? Or are you blind and ignorant that having people pay to beta test games is now the industry standard? We can all agree it is not right. However, this is the world we live in.

Misanthrope I just beat the game, and had a huge blast playing it. It does have a few draw backs and some ships are now essentially redundant, but the game is still fun. I had as much fun playing the first time i did years ago as I did just now. And that last mission had me stumped for 2 days before I decided to go back a level and reorganize my fleet.

This was one of my favorite games of all time! Cool now that I am friends with Trevor Rabin and his wife Sherry. I hope this game is revived and new games will be made. DO NOT CHANGE THE PLATFORM... JUST IMPROVE IT AND CREATE NEW STORIES TO PLAY.

Yep, this was back when Valve was still a fairly small time player in the videogame industry. The original Half-Life had only been out for 10 months when homeworld was released. The amount of incredibly talented people that had a hand in making this game is amazing
@pchiare
@pchiare 4 года назад
@@jeryn23 It is indeed amazing. But also, to be expected, given the quality of the final product. I can honestly say no game has ever impacted me more, with the exception of Neverwinter Nights, by Bioware, but that was a multiplayer experience designed to mimic tabletop DnD, and as such had a deep social element to it. In the realm of art I experienced by myself, this has impacted me more than any movie, for example. Simply amazing.

Absolutely love this song and game. One crazy thing, if you listen to the sounds at the beginning of the song, one of the higher sounds is verbatim one of the sounds used in the fourth level of the first Pikmin game which came out a few years after this game. there's no way that those are two separate sounds. They sound exactly the same. If you ever played that level, you'll know what I'm talking about.
