I wonder how many Reason Users now regret paying ($129 before Oct 2021...now) $200 for the v12 update to get access to Mimic...when this plug in is like $9.99 and pretty much does the same...and more.😆😆😆
i don’t know why you suggest avoiding talking about wup at the end of the video. the only way a company will make changes to a crappy business model is if they receive enough negative feedback lol i switched computers december 2020 and didn’t even bother installing any of my waves plugins purely because of wup. as long as it exists, i’ll never buy (let alone install what i already own) another waves plugin again lol but back to the topic of cr8… it’s fine. nothing groundbreaking. people starting out in music could enjoy it, but as far as people who have produced for years and already own other samplers… we’re good. haha
You never have to use the WUP actually. Means no more updates after a year. But its not that you MUST buy WUP. I think the trade off to having cheap plugins is fine. other companies have other policies, like bringing out a V2 which will cost you premium or an upgrade pricing.
@@whitenoisestudio that’s true, but that’s what i don’t like lol. meanwhile i’ve owned plugins from countless other brands (softube, plugin alliance, fabfilter) for years and have had free updates when they release them. and the thing about waves is, even when their plugins were full price you’d still pay for wup. so you’d buy an expensive plugin or bundle, then in a year shell-out more money for it if you want updates. it left a bad taste in my mouth, so even now when all their plugins are eternally on sale for 29.99 now or whatever, i still won’t invest any money knowing i can buy other gear and never pay to update. i guess idk how they can still have paid updates when other companies don’t, but what do i know lol. i also consider new versions of plugins, like moving from pro-q2 to pro-q3 for example, to be upgrading instead of updating because of new features - in which case paying more makes sense to me. it’s just upsetting because i do miss h-delay lol… anyway, appreciate the response! take care
Same. The unmentionable put me off Waves for life. Glad others are enjoying their products but there is no way back for them in my eyes. It told me everything I needed to know how they run their business. The one machine activation limit also put me over the edge. I want no part of it. Let the market speak. If other customers like it then I wish them the best. I don't wish to be treated that way as a paying customer. Great review though! Very well explained!
Same….. when I got my M1 MacBook I didn’t bother with waves anymore. I would have to install 3 versions of the waves central thingy just to get all my purchased plug-ins installed. Or pay for the latest version of all of them with a wup renewal…….
I don't care about the "but". Waves is a company with horrible business practices and a hidden-but-enforced subscription model. Worst of both worlds, subscription and pay-once models. They could bring out the best plugin ever and I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole.
I bought the waves gold package on intel MBPro Then bought an M1 Mac Mini Then waves said I must upgrade to use all the plugins I had already bought and owned ... 🤮🤮🤮
Great video!! Quick question. Is there a way to loop a sample and upon releasing key it will finish playing the rest of the sample (past the loop) so it doens't just chop off? I hope that makes sense!
@@whitenoisestudio yeah, but that means that i'll add a master fx to all my samples on that track. I can open different instances of CR8 and add separate fx per track but that will add weight to my CPU. (Also, CR8 doesn't have audio output routing, so i cant use a single CR8 sending audio to different tracks) While redux does both, you can route each sample to a different track and also add separate "fx chains" per sample. so nah.
If I could also slice samples with this like Serato Sample i'd probably buy this - much better tool for making playable instruments with, but no sample chopping? Hmmm....
I have yet to try this out from watching the video. At the moment, I think more users will start requesting the software developers to expand on the features into a full blown sampler. I could be wrong.
I think they are actually running this as a loss leader to draw people to their website. There's nothing new that they offer but I also can't think of any other sampler out there with as many features as this for such a low price.
this video is great but PLEASE can someone tell me how to enable the sample to follow tempo regardless of the note? I hate the low ones being played back so slowly and the high ones being so fast, I can't make a usable instrument that way. I cannot seem to find it anywhere and really hoping I didn't just pay for this sampler that cannot do that when Logic's free one has an option to not stretch/speed up the sample.
its almost a perfect little sampler, for real... it could use some slicing and polyphonic launch mode, I hope people from waves realize they actually got it right this time and improve CR8
Iris 2? Isn't that that phenomenal sampler with the super references that nobody uses because it sounds like plastic? But ok, for 9 bucks the included sample library is quite useful.
The sampler looks like Reason`s new Mimic sampler a lot. But, C`mon! It`s only 10 dollars right now! And Waves don`t even make a big story from it. They just release the sampler and it works fine!!!
Can you also chop/slice samples within this plugin? I use Serato Sample to quickly chop samples and are mapped to the keyboard easily. Compared to Serato Sample this plugin has a few more features that I'm interested in but I don't see anything about slicing samples.
@@whitenoisestudio you can only create a maximum of 8 tabs which means that u could chop up a sample into 8 slices. The plugin is not rly made for that purpose and cannot compete with serato in this regard.
True, but how many slices would you need? I used 6 for the drumloop. There's also the option to open a second instance of the plugin etc. So it can do slices, and it's limited to 8 within 1 instance of a plugin.
For me there is nothing really interesting, I have got all those functions inside the Cubase sampler track, this plugin is just a copy. Anyway thank you very much for this exellant review! Chears!
wohooo waves update plan is a scam :( we need slicing on that .. and myabe it would be nice to have an auto pitching algorithem to C .. i know its kinda odd but i always pitch my samples to c so i can play them across the keyboard so it would be nice if it was automatic
@@whitenoisestudio Thank you Question: I am a bit confused with Wave licensing system If I purchase a license for CR8 with Waves, is it a perpetual license, with upgrades for 1 year only, meaning after 1 year, I still get to keep the software up until the last version of that year ? Or does the license has a duration of 1 year only , for which I need to keep paying more money every year ?
You can select root folders and it will scan everything in it, including the subfolders. So it depends how you have set up you folder structure i'd say, it doesnt accept selecting a drive.
Output arcade is purely subscription based and becomes *way* more expensive than CR8 after the first few months, even if you take into account Waves regular price and their not to be mentioned upgrade scheme. If you're ok with $120 per year, there are plenty of samplers that will do more for you than CR8 specially in sales seasons.
Kontakt is by far a way more featured sampler. Not to mention the huge library of kontakt sample libraries and instruments available. it comes down to what you want and need. It's a tool and a very nicely designed at that one. also 10 bucks ;-)
@@whitenoisestudio maybe good for people suffering without a good sampler in the daw. But looks really cool and quick. And there must be a feature there that is exclusive, i cant believe Waves just does a copy so to say
I don't see in this plugin what other free samplers included for free in major DAWS can't do. Logic, Cubase and all the major players have a sampler included, some of them have even 2 samplers (like "Sampler" and "Quick Sampler" in Logic, but I guess this is the same thing in Live or Cubase). I don't realy understand what's interesting in it. It's not even simpler than these other free samplers. Sorry. And well, Cosmos, which I've downloaded, doesn't work as a plugin, it's less integrated and easy to use as other free solutions (ADSR or Loopcloud for instance). You can't even play the sample directly from you DAW for a quick try.
Well it's all about preference and personal workflow. I for one, really like how cr8 works , how simple it works for me. What you say about cosmos is not true. You can drag and drop a sample from cosmos within your daw on an audiotrack and play the sample to check within the cosmos plugin.
@@whitenoisestudio You can play the sample after having to drag&drop it in CR8, not in the Cosmos plugin as there's no Cosmos plugin, Cosmos is a standalone app only, and without any MIDI implementation. In Cosmos you get only a preview/prelistening of the sample but you can't play it, I mean on your keyboard/MIDI controler, like in ADSR or Loopcloud. For my own workflow, as a composer, having a quick idea about how a sample could work in a different pitch or speed, before drag& drop it in a real sampler, is essential.
Then it simply means this plugin isnt for you. And that's fine. For me, cr8 is a very nice sampler plugin for my needs, which i point out in teh video and cosmos is also a very handy sample browser. Which are your preferred samplers and browsers?
@@whitenoisestudio I mainly use ADSR. Some time to time Loopcloud. Less often the integrated sample browser in Logic ('cause you can't directly play the samples with it, you've to drag them in a sampler, like CR8+Cosmos) And as a sampler I mainly use Sampler, formerly EXS24, in Logic, I realy don't like the old, clumsy and tiny GUI of Kontakt 🤓.
Looks like a great plugin, but I find there is a problem when adding my samples to Cosmos. Adding a hard drive name when importing samples is not possible, too bad.
@@whitenoisestudio Yes, that's true, thanks. But if doing so, all my other samplers and Kontakt instruments in quickload have to be redirected to the new directories one by one which is even more time consumsing.
@@whitenoisestudio Yes, contacted Waves support to add full drive recognition in Cosmos. Otherwise, I need to add hundreds of folders in my sample hard drive one by one which will take forever.
@@whitenoisestudio true and cr8 is so cool ... that 5 things to know video is absolutely awesome, Marlon. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9IhHwTmgTv4.html Totally ignited inspiration.
Christ Myron you are quick wit it pal. Not sure the world needs another soft sampler, but it does seem easy to use and sounds good too. Love the mod options, you don’t always get that feature (looking at you Momentum…). As for the sample manager, I’ll have to see if it’s superior to ADSRs manager, but I like seeing the waveforms - big bonus.
I have special access ;-) Video was ready yesterday. Yeah its nothing revolutionairy, but I found it really easy to use and most of all fun t o use. That alone wants me to use it more often. About cosmos, it's free, so whatever. Handy that it is included and works potentially better than a standard folder browser.
I had ADSR, it was great (free) but was buggy when I needed it most. Actually bought Sononym and it's a monster. But this sampler is looking alot more dope than I thought it was
Its useful in its own right. I used it in Reason where drag and drop was not that great and now from the CR8 or the COSMOS, I can take a sample and drop it into a favorites folder with ease now. I wish the CR8 had the ability to chop the sample and that those slices were movable.
