I checked the exact trigger in the dialogue topic. The "Loop Detected. Error. Err-" line checks to see if the player has a Luck value equal to or greater than 7. If this condition is not met, then he will aggro as he normally would. Dialog topic form ID is 000250B1!
Honestly that's a flaw with all the 3d games (haven't finished the first two, no idea what it's like in those). Special points affecting dialogue happens few and far between. The best at it is new Vegas, but even then most of the time it's just saying the exact same thing in a different way. Actual checks exist, but they are far from common, and can typically be easily avoided without consequence. Like, if you have low intelligence you get a discount on the intelligence implant. If you have low intelligence or high luck you can randomly yell out ICE CREAM as a password in the robco headquarters when prompted by one of the robots. Those are the only ones I can think of that has any effect farther than a slight change of dialogue.
I’ve done 10+ play throughs since launch and have never gotten this encounter then again though I do open fire on any gutsy I see b/c of a ptsd moment I had my first playthrough w/ one that legit snuck up on me and one tapped me so maybe I did get this encounter once but I just shot at the gutsy and killed it instead of talking to it😂
I think this is literally the ONLY luck dialogue check. And according to another rather convincing comment, it requires a luck of 7 and will always succeed when at that minimum.
The issue here is that most options that could be S.P.E.C.I.A.L checks aren't and it doesn't always go into it very much. That's why charisma and intelligence stats are superior and everything else is pretty much pointless, unless your in combat which a solid percentage of important fights can be avoided if you pass the checks.
They really missed the opportunity for more skill checks (that were obvious). Like, Robotics Expert in Nuka World's western park was the ONLY skill check that I know of. Anyone know any mods that add skill checks?
Sim settlements 2 has a ton of different dialogue choices with specific perk and SPECIAL requirements. Thing is though unless you already have a specific perk for a check it wont show up and a normal option appears instead. It's very good beyond just the checks but is still quite neat.
There are a handful of skill checks in Far Harbour. There's one with Andre (the sick and dying sailor). You need either high enough INT (I think it might be 8+ but I can't remember), rank 2+ of Medic, or a vial of the "mysterious serum" from Cabot House to heal him. And there's an INT skill check to fix the decontamination arches in the Nucleus. Probably more that I can't remember. In the base game, I know there are skill checks to fix the USS Constitution.
I noticed one too with a Graygarden Mr Handy, the show host one. In an old play through i noticed that after helping him he gave me pre war money as my reward, but in my latest one i had my luck attribute pretty high so this time around he gave me like 500 caps. Still finding new things years later.
I mean, _technically_ Speech is affected by Luck as well as Charisma in 3 and New Vegas, but neither has a _significant_ effect on it. Getting 100 Speech with 1 CHA and 1 LCK is not much harder than getting it with 10 CHA and 10 LCK. In fact, it's probably easier, because you're more likely to have 10 INT if CHA and LCK are set at 1.
Bethesda yet again proving they have the ability to implement ability based speech checks yet they absolutely refused to on a wide scale nor ever communicate that they've implemented this, what a bizarre decision
having a high luck would make more sense then the low IQ checks. "push buttons and see what happens" Low IQ check that succeeds in what you're trying to do, regardless of your luck level.
For some reason whenever I got this encounter the robot would just cut the conversation and go hostile after like half a line of dialog. No clue why...
I knew there were two different outcomes, but I never knew it was because of luck! I always thought that female characters caused the robot to explode due to her exceedingly mocking voice, whereas the male character always gets attacked. The more you know!
I always just glitch out my luck stat to max, so I had no idea that it actually played a role in this dialouge. I remember seeing the first interaction in some other video, but I always wondered why I always got the second option instead. Now it makes sense, and I kinda wish that SPECIAL stats were more like that of FNV, like with that one robot where you can just guess the password if you have good enough luck and stuff like that.
I think there's one at the Boston Library where a robot asks for your employee number to be let inside, but I don't remember if it's a luck or charisma check.
@@zephyrprime8 that would be the intercom in the tunnel entrance to the Boston Library, where you can take an easy speech check to guess an employee number, which ends up being '123456', or the Mayor's number
"There is no indication" yes there is. The description outright states that it will literally result in luckier outcomes. Same as in Fallout 1 when your Luck stat is high enough the Khans may mistake you for the leader's father. This can only be found by chance. I love this kind of skill check - it is immersive and is not a boring number in a box that plagues games like New Vegas.
I feel like if the game were to do that though, you'd need to know *exactly* what your character would say so you could think "Hmm, if this were a speech check, what would it be related to, and do I have enough of whatever I need?" Assuming it's not the Fallout 3 method where even at 100 speech you can still *fail* speech checks if you are unlucky.
@@shibainu2528 tbf Fallout 3 method was superior. You could risk it all with like 25% or play it safe and upgrade your character. New Vegas is just boring with always failing if you're not to the requirements But yeah, Kingdom Come did it well when you needed an additional skill to actually see if you could pass a speech check or not. Just in general I kinda prefer their system of speech checks
well there's this interaction on New Vegas where you're in the repconn building and a robot asks for your id, and there's an option where you answer "Ice Cream" and if you have +6 luck he just leaves you alone
Huh, I wonder what it looks like in the CK. Could it be applied to future mods? Imagine little bits and pieces of dialogue scattered throughout the game based on your special, it would be really something
@@Zelapher well yeah ofc luck effects gambeling. Look I'm just saying ive played low luck builds in every single fallout game except NV cause thats just how i am. I can count on 1 hand how many times ive put a single point into luck, and ive pased this check at least 50 times.
It’s not a chance, it’s guaranteed if you have 7 or higher luck, below that you get attacked. At least, according to another commenter who claims to have checked the files
@@DizzyTrendermen once again never played with more than 1 luck before besides vegas and i have never failed this check. Don't comment if ur just gonna ignore whats been previously said
i dont think it has to be at one. i got this same interaction on my ps4 playthrough and i dont think my luck was at one. i havent leveled my luck at all bc i dont really use vats that often but i didnt know what it would do so i started it out at 3. unless it was some sort of glitch idrk lol
I came across this when I was doing my playthrough on PS5 so I already knew about this interaction but was really confused on why when I was selecting "Will you comply?" that after a few he just started shooting me, thanks to you, now I don't have to wonder
Fallout 4 has the same issue that Skyrim has where a lot of the RPG elements still exist, they're just hidden from the player. Skyrim has a whole tier system for factions the same way New Vegas does, but it's barely made use of (it determines the value limit on what NPCs will let you take for free).
Remember when shouting "ice cream" was the lucky answer to a similar situation in New Vegas? This kind of stuff is absolutely hilarious, and should be done more often. Just maybe include a way to let the player know the interaction was luck based.
Real life: where you can only ever think of four things to say in any given situation and you only have a vague idea of what is actually going to come out of your mouth, which is usually somewhere along the same lines but you sometimes end up saying something you really didn't mean. Thank you Todd, very cool
Like, this must not require much investment over one, because I generally keep my luck between three and eight, and he's never failed to explode when I did the loop.
Fallout 4, holy fuck, sure the protagonist speaks but the Dialogue choices are so fewer than in 3, infact, the protagonist is absolutely boring when they speak.
See I was wondering why the “Will you comply” thing never worked for me after I saw it work on RU-vid. Most of my characters don’t have much luck since I don’t do vats builds.
Missing out vats. Vats is busted in conjuction with any weapon build. Hell even melee+big leagues+rooted+blitz benefits immensely from vats. I can one shot clear an entire swarm of enemies, while looking like goofy ass montages of recycled all-purpose cartoon bonk animations and never leave vats until the fights over. Just warping around the battle field from enemy to enemy. Its worth trying out. Especially since all perks just feed more ap. Also luck increase the amount of junk/caps you can find. Power cores become so common I can trade them like water, I have a billion of all explosives and maxed out on all ammunition that I dont use and constantly have a large supply of ammo that I do use. Anything I need I can just throw caps at it.
@@cylerherbst9143my vats melee bonk build begs to differ. Fully modded, Instigating regular sledge+big leagues+rooted+blitz+crit banker+4 leaf. Only way it can get more busted is when I get my rad gear and atoms judgment
The only time I have ever seen this bot is while he was shooting at me during the dialog where Danse is thanking me for standing up to Maxson for him lol
