I also have patterns that I make over and over!! I just love the tops and am excited for your trip. I think you are set now!! That quilt top is exquisite! It is always so nice to visit with you. I finally had time to sit and visit with you.
I love your embroidery on your tshirt! The vest pattern from Love Notions would definitely be fabulous with the quilted fabric and I think you're wise to have the flower to the inside! I love the train footage, too! I bet it was magical for your grandbabies. :D Have a wonderful vacation!
Thank you so much Laura. When I bought that flowered quilt fabric I was intending to use it flower side as we were heading into Spring. Thank goodness I didn't as everyone has said use the navy side 🤣. That's why having a channel is good for me as I can't see impending disasters sometimes 😱🤣. We have returned from holiday now and back to normality! Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Your new tops are perfect for you!! And the embroidery on Katie’s dress is so much fun. When we close the island house for the winter, I will definitely start spending more time playing with the Brother designs. Love the quilted fabric for the Oakley, but I’m completely onboard with you using the navy side of it. Much more versatile. Have a safe trip and see you when you get back!! Xx 💞
Thanks Izzy. I learn more every time I use that Embroidery machine and now that I am on the Facebook group, I love trying to answer peoples' questions in my head when they put up an issue, to see if I know the answer 😂. I do absolutely love the flowery side of the fabric, I may have some left so I can always make a bag from it?! Enjoy your weekend and your holiday is going to be here before you know it ✈️🌴. 😘💗
You will be all set for NC! Such cute tops and who cares if they're from the same pattern? I had that "where are the insides of this pattern" happen just the other day. Drives me crazy. Usually it's that I'm dyslexic and filed it wrong - never fails. Good call on the vest. It'll be nice to have a peek at the floral rather than have it overwhelm everything. You should play the lottery here! The train looks fun and yes, he does like HP. Safe travels my friend. I know you'll have a fabulous time here - xoxoxox
Oh Jen, I pride myself on being so organised and good with filing so I was so angry I couldn't find it. I went through every single envelope but to no avail 😭. We are so looking forward to our trip to the US but sadly a little more North than Florida this time so no catch up 😭. We want to repeat a trip we did about 15 years ago when we dragged two teenagers around with us, it should be easier with just Chris and I 🤣. Ollie is just HP crazy at the moment and it is brilliant as he has spent all Summer School holidays reading the books, it has just clicked for him all of a sudden. Have a great couple of weeks and don't forget I am only a couple of States away from you if you want to pop up 💗😘xx
Yes, candy corn is a small, somewhat chewy and very, very sweet candy that is triangle in shape with rounded corners - it is orange on the bottom, yellow in the middle, and white at the very top - as kids, we used to cut the top off and pretend it was a tooth we'd just lost - didn't fool anyone 😄! I'm sure you'll see it if you go into any supermarket or pharmacy/drug store in the U.S. I was also thinking that quilted fabric would make a cute bag - maybe you'll have some scraps for small projects like potholders. It is a good idea to run a quick zig-zag stitch around the edges of the cut pieces to help keep the stuffing from coming out and to kind of seal off the quilting thread ends before handling it for sewing, also helps flatten the edges a bit to make it easier to work with. I usually cover the seam allowances inside prequilted projects with seam binding but I'm sure there are other methods to be found online. Have a wonderful vacay!!!
Thanks so much your comment and letting me know about the sweets, I bet I will see them everywhere I go in the States now 🤣 I had already thought about bags for the quilt leftovers and yes, I know about 'sealing' the edges, it is something Adam taught me! Thanks so much for the advice and you sound like you are an expert! I'm hoping this project will be simple 😁. Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Don't apologize for repeating the great pattern. It works and suits your wardrobe. Maybe you can buy a new copy of your lost pattern in the US. Love the idea of putting the navy side out on the vest pattern. Again, you know your style and what you will actually enjoy wearing. The train trip looks like a lot of fun for all of you. Enjoy your holiday and relax. We will be here when you come back.
Thank you Kathy. I am definitely going to try and get a copy when I am over in the US. You know what will happen though, I'll find it straight away when I get back! Thanks for watching and have a good couple of weeks 🧵😊
Oh I do hope you are right and the boys remember about the tokens. It was just so funny 🤣. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment 🧵😊
Love the tops, especially that strawberry one! Hope you have a fabulous holiday, and if you change your mind and come to Florida, the farm awaits!!! Travel safe!! Love you❤
Thanks so much Trish!! If we have bad weather in Virginia, we will be on the next flight down to you don't worry about that 😂. Very excited to be back to the Good Ole USA tomorrow eeek! So near and yet so far 😘💗💗xx
Hey, Carole! Great video, as usual. I just had to comment on your finally allowing yourself to use TNT patterns a lot. I’ve done that for years. I say, when you find something that works for you, carry on! I’m listing my TNTs in case you or readers want to try any. All but one were discontinued long ago, but can be found via internet. (FYI -I’m a curvy girl - 16-18) 1. S9747 (1995) My pants pattern❤ I love because it has no side seams (only one pattern piece) and it’s the only pants I make - adjusting for length (cropped, shorts). I hate in-seam side pockets, so the loss of them doesn’t matter. I use patch pockets always. 2. M 3054 (1987) I consider this my “dressy” pants because of the soft pleats in front, flat waist front, and back elastic. (I’ve also made the top many times) 3. B 6383 (date missing) My very favorite tee! Can’t tell you how many I’ve made! Also, can use knits or wovens. I eliminated the facings and bind the neck instead. 4. B 4328 (no date) I love this quick wrap top. All edges bound in narrow bias tape. So quick. I eliminated the wide, attached belt and just make a long, narrow tie belt. It also works great unbelted as a loose jacket. 5. B5652 (still in catalogue!) My go-to top that’s not a tee! (View A) This is the most comfy, coolest top ever. Ive made out of batik and quilting cotton or silky prints. Totally different look depending on drape of fabric. Warning: This is so oversized, go down 2 sizes from your normal. 6. S7290 (1991) My fav short sleeved little jacket! Made a million! It’s rather cropped, but you could easily lengthen it. And only 1 3/4 yd of fabric! 7. S 8115 (1987) The only other jacket I make. So easy to change up by color blocking, adding trim, adding appliqué or embroidery. I’ve done all that! Sorry this was so long, but thought you might enjoy the sharing! 💕💕💕😻😻😻
Thank you so much for your comment! I found it fascinating reading your reviews and looking up your favourite patterns. One thing that did occur to me is do you do reviews on Pattern.com on these as I'm sure your comments would be well received. That's my go to place to find out about patterns and how people have got on, apart from RU-vid of course 😂. I do reuse patterns a lot and I know lots of RU-vidrs like to try out all the new patterns and do pattern hauls but to be honest, when I find something that works I stick with it! You will know like me that an item can look very different in another fabric. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me and my viewers know of some successful patterns. Happy Sewing! 🧵😊
@@socarole66 No, I’ve never posted on Pattern Review! In fact, I usually forget to look there for reviews. I’m not sure how much they welcome reviews on discontinued patterns. It’s true that fabric selection can really change the look. I’ve never had anyone (except my sewing bff) comment on me using the same pattern again and again. Since I’m also a quilter, I’m quite used to using several fabrics in one design - color blocking, strip piecing, etc. Keeps me from getting bored. I sure wish RU-vid allowed photos in comments like FB does! Would loved to have sent you pics of my TNTs! I hope you can use some of these patterns. 💕💕🙋🏼♀️
I'm a sucker for vests. Can be counted on searching them out at thrift stores or discount racks. I've made the Oakley a few times. The view with pockets of coarse. I've come home with a few quilted jackets but I've removed the sleeves from them. Three of them after removing the sleeves I added zippers to the sleeve, to reattach if the mood suddenly came over me... To make them jackets again. Only one ever has that i zip the sleeves on and off. I've lost count how many vests (quilted and not) I have as a layering piece. The added bonus of always having pockets.
Wow, sounds like you've made some awesome up cycles and zip attached sleeves is a fantastic idea! I change temperature so often I love gilets (as I call them). They are great for walking and also wearing under waterproofs. I can't wait to make up the Oakley and glad to hear from someone who has made it and yes, I also need pockets as I always have a runny nose and need tissues 🤣. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Great tops if it works and you love it no problem keep sewing vests are great their very handy have a wonderful holiday stay safe will enjoy your return ❤😊😊😊
It’s called “Thunder and Blazes”. Lovely photos, you are so lucky to have such a close relationship with your daughter and grandsons. Have a good vacation.
Yes!! Although I know it as Entry of the Gladiators and it made me cross I couldn't remember as we played it in our Orchestra last year 😂. I am indeed so lucky to have our family so close, don't get me wrong my daughter and I have our moments though!! Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Carole, Thank you for sharing the pictures of your family. I love seeing them. They remind me of when I used to take my grandson on the steam train, He used to love it. It would take us to pick up a boat that would take us on an excursion up the Connecticut River and then back to the train. Thank you for sharing them anyway. Enjoy your holiday. 🙂❤🙂
Oh Maureen I am so glad you enjoyed the video and it brought back happy memories for you. It also brings back memories of taking my Son on that train, where did that time go?! Connecticut is one state we haven't been to in the US, we should put it on our list!! Thanks for watching and happy sewing 🧵😊
Oh Carole we will miss you like crazy! But I hope you have a wonderful trip to America 🇺🇸 Of course your 6217s came out perfect!! I agree about the quilted fabric - the navy will go with more of your outfits❤ Katie’s dress is adorable 🦇and oh what a fun train ride! My kids were always big Thomas and Harry Potter fans- we’ve had some nice train rides❤I miss you already 😢Have fun!!❤❤
And I will miss you Mary! I will only be a couple of States away from you though 🤣. Whilst I do love the flowery side of the quilted fabric it just wouldn't be practical, maybe I can make a bag out of it instead?! Thomas!! Who could forget him and yes, both my Grandsons and my Son adored him, I still have some books 🤣. How wonderful that your kids shared the same passions. Thanks so much for being there and see you in a couple of weeks 😁✈️💗xx
@@socarole66 maybe you could FaceTime since we will be in the same time zone?!😁 A bag sounds great too! I think we still have all the wooden trains 🚂😂 safe travels!
@@socarole66 I made the kimono years ago but lengthen it because it would have stopped at my fattest part so just added a few inches. I have also made a dress from the top pattern. I did alter the neckline on my top as I have narrow shoulders and it showed my bra straps so I redrew the neckline. x
Thanks so much Kathleen. We love Tennessee and have holidayed there in the past. We aren't far away this year in the next State from you. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Your tops are lovely, Carole, and Katie’s dress is so fun! That quilted vest will be fab! How fun that you won all those tickets! Can’t wait to see you! 😘💗
Thank you Andra, I just managed to finish Katie's dress an hour before we left today thank goodness. I just didn't want to go home to it 🤣. See you soon 😘💕
Beautiful makes as ever. Beware the Oakley Vest, I had a problem with it that I’ve never had with any other pattern. Watch the armhole, mine fold over at the bottom of he back of the scoop, hope that makes sense. It’s a more visible because I made it in a pre quilted fabric with a contrast (which highlights the issue) binding. Have a fab holiday 🛫
Thank you so much for your comment and warning, I really appreciate it! I understand what you mean so I will be watching out for that. Thanks also for the positive holiday vibes and have a good weekend 🧵😊
Both of your tops came out so nice. I reuse the same pattern quite a lot. I just change out the sleeves and sometimes the neckline. Your daughter's Halloween outfit is going to be adorable. I am sure she will love it. I have made the Oakley Vest several time (you know I love Love Notions). I've made both versions. I have not made it using a quilted fabric so I am looking forward to seeing yours made up. I would use the solid blue on the outside, I think you will wear it more that way since many of your tops are florals or printed designs. I love having a "fancy" lining inside coats and vests. I hope you have a wonderful time on your holiday. See you when you are back.
Hi Carol. Thanks so much for your comment and wishes. I was interested to hear you have sewn the Oakley vest. I'm hoping it won't be that tricky with the quilting fabric and also hoping I'll have some left over for some bags 🤣. Navy is definitely the way to go though. 🧵😊
That New Look 6217 is a great versatile pattern! It checks off all my boxes!! Its a great Tried and True pattern for you with a good fit. Enjoy your holiday!!
Thanks so much for your comment and I agree with you, that pattern wins every single time I use it, even with Double Gauze 😂. Thanks for your holiday wishes 🧵😊
Your makes as always are lovely. I look forward to seeing the finished vest - I think it's a great idea for that quilted fabric. I hope you have a great holiday (though I'll miss your cheerful vlogs) and see you when you get back.❤❤❤
Thank you so much, that is so sweet of you. Glad you approve of the quilted fabric plans, I think I will get far more use out of that. Have a good couple of weeks and enjoy sewing for me, 🧵😊
Oh Carole, the tried and true N6217 pattern is always a winner. I love both tops! I love the Halloween embroidery also! Adorable. I wish I had an extra N6344 to send you. I hope you find it. Enjoy your trip! 💖🥰
Yes Grace, you can't go wrong with that pattern and I know you love it too. The embroidery was fun but the Mickey was 14 colour changes!! I wished at that point I had a multi needle machine 🤣. I'm sure that missing pattern will turn up again soon, I'll have another look after my trip. Thanks so much anyway. Thanks for stopping by and give Zoey an extra cuddle from me 😘🥰🐶
Fabulous vlog Carole!! No worries with repeating the same pattern. If it works, it works!! 1400 tokens what a dream for the little ones ❤. Enjoy your trip to the fullest!!❤
I think the New Look pattern tops you made (6217) were perfect! The strawberry fabric needed a simplistic structure so that it could shine, and it does! I loved the embroidery on the other top, too.The square-neck top was truly beautiful. Thank you for sharing your lovely tops and your plans for the future. I hope you have a lovely time here in America! I live in the Texas Hill country (the middle of the state) and we have many lovely excursion trains. I hope you have safe travels and come home refreshed!
Hi there and thanks so much for watching. I had to look up Texas Hill country as I wasn't sure where it was. We have been to Texas but only a quick visit to Dallas. I wanted to see Southfork Ranch as a 50th birthday treat 🤣. Your area looks so scenic and that's what we love. Thanks for all your kind comments about my makes and I'm enjoying wear them whilst on holiday! 🧵😊
Thanks so much Babs. I really think it had to be the Navy but that wasn't my intention when I bought the fabric. I'll have to make some bags using the flowery side! Have a great couple of weeks 🧵😊
Hi there and thanks so much for your comment. We aren't heading to Florida this time, we are doing Virginia and WV for some walking etc. I am planning to meet up with a couple of RU-vid friends though so can't wait to share that on my return. Have a good weekend 🧵😊
Oh I do hope you have luck with the pattern, a few people say they have trouble with the neckline being wide so just watch that! Let me know how you get on. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Thanks so much. I can't take the credit for the pattern sorting, I copied it from Jen when she made a video a good few years ago now. It works brilliantly for me....except on this occasion 😂 but that was a user error! 🧵😊
What a versatile NL pattern, and it looks so good on you. The Stawberry fabric shirt is adorable, and I like the color of the T-shirt on you. I don’t think it washes you out 😉😉. I can’t believe your weather is turning already, it’s too early for Fall🥴. Your daughter will be happy with her new & pretty Hallowing dress 👗. I hope you enjoy your vacation!!!! 😊😊💖💖
It really is a good basic pattern and so easy to adapt to whatever the current fashions are! I am wearing that particular T shirt today as I write this and I don't think it's that bad, my Mum would soon tell me if she saw it 🤣. We are enjoying our holiday so far and loving the warmth and sunshine we are experiencing 🕶️. I just managed to finish Katie's dress the hour before we left thank goodness, I didn't want to face it again in 2 weeks 🤣 Thanks for watching and sew for me! 💕xx
You speak my sewing language, thanks for putting yourself out here! It's interesting that I live in the US near a Joann's that I complain about not having enough dressmaker fabrics, but that folks who don't have access to them enjoy shopping there. I suppose the grass is always greener lol! Anyway I have this NL pattern and I'm glad to know how much you enjoy it. I have a piece of silk I'd like to use, but I want to make it a couple of times in less expensive fabric to get the size just right. Enjoy your vacation to the US!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! You are so right about the grass being greener, I love your fabric shops over here yet I'm sure we have good ones too in the UK I just don't think we do🤣 That pattern in a silk would be just perfect, not too complicated so it should have a smooth finish. I do wish you luck with that 🧵😊
Hi Carole. All your makes are so lovely. Candy corn is a big deal here in the south. It can only be found in Autumn. The Oakley vest is going to be great. I would place the blue outward as well. I couldn’t help but lol watching the tokens pouring out. The boys being so happy is great. . I always love the photos of your adventures. I’m so excited for your trip to the US. ❤ Diann
Thanks Diann! I bet I see Candy corn everywhere I go on my trip now 🤣. Perhaps I should bring some back for Katie and the boys! Glad I decided to use the blue for the outside of the jacket as everyone has agreed with me. I'm sure I will use the flowery side for bags or something instead if I have any left over. Can't wait to meet you in a week!!! Have a good weekend 😘🍓 xx
Wonderful makes Carole! I was wondering if you could do a quick comparison between New Look 6217 and 6216 when using a knit to make the short sleeve top compared to a woven. I don’t have 6217 but have considered purchasing it- but I do have 6216.
Hi there, thanks so much for your comment. You are the second person to ask this so it is something I will cover when I get back from holiday. The main difference between the patterns is the curved hem and also the back opening. If you do as I do and just cut the back on the fold they are almost identical. You could even just curve the 6216 hem. I am intrigued to compare the pattern pieces of these two patterns so I will video that soon. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
You will look so cute in all of your makes on Vacation. Winning the jackpot couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. I’m going to miss you for sure, but I hope you have a fabulous vacation. I am sewing a taffeta unlined jacket right now. It’s been pretty fun.
Thank you so much, honestly you are so kind when you comment 🥰. What a fantastic thing you are sewing up and sounds challenging! Are you making it for anything special? Hope you do lots of sewing for me as I can't! 🧵😊
@@socarole66 I made a knit maxi dress and the taffeta jacket for the play Wicked. Saw it last night. It was so good. A lady commented on my outfit. That makes a sewist feel more confident.
@@loribarton7480 oh wow! I will have to tell my daughter as she LOVES Wicked and has seen it a couple of times. She used to sing the songs it endlessly when she was at school 🤣
Hi. I’ve made the New Look pattern twice and the neck has been far too wide. Yours looks fine. Have a lovely time in America and I look forward to seeing your vlogs when you get back.
Hi, I’ve made the 6217 pattern a couple of times as well and like Ann find the neckline too wide, would love to know if you have altered the pattern and if so how you did it, happy holiday.
Hi Ann, a few people say about the neckline. Normally that's a major problem for me but it doesn't happen with this pattern and I don't have to alter it like I do with the 6216. No idea why! If I did I think I would just alter the pattern and redraw the neckline making sure the shoulder seams at the back increased as well. Thanks for watching and your holiday wishes 🧵😊
As I said to Ann above, this is probably the one pattern I don't have an issue with. It would be easy to redraw a narrower neckline though. Thanks for watching and good luck ! 🧵😊
Hi Carole! Ups and downs of the sewing world is definitely me right now! I have not found a pattern that I can hack that I truly love. I love my cashmerette dresses. They're all the same dress, but I haven't figured out any way to hack them... but I really don't want to.😅 You have made very beautiful makes! I will get out of my slump soon. I may take a few weeks off just to clear my mind.
Sewing really is a rollercoaster ride isn't it!! I wouldn't worry about hacking dresses to look different. The fabric can make all the difference as someone has said to me. Sorry to hear you still are really feeling like sewing. Why don't you just make fun little projects for your Grandkids or something rather than 'serious' sewing. Take care xxx💗
Carole, have a lovely holiday and a relaxing break. Had a good chuckle about your tokens, LOL, the boys would have loved it. I too have lots of 6217 tops in my wardrobe, but they are so easy to sew and wear. I am thinking about putting cuffs on the sleeves/armholes, do you cut yours on the bias or just add a cuff on. Thank you for your vlog. Linda
Hi Linda, thanks so much for your comment and watching. When I add cuffs to 6216 I don't cut on the bias if I'm using jersey, just cut them straight as in doing a neckband. However I would cut on the bias for a woven fabric as a small amount of stretch helps and stops the cuffs sticking out. I will say though, every single fabric is different so I would try a piece first. Hope that helps! 🧵😊
Your tops are lovely. I’ve made this a few times myself and want to size it up to make it more over sized as I don’t wear mine much now. It’s a great pattern.
Thanks, that is so kind of you. I'm typing this and wearing my navy double gauze one I made! It could easily work as an oversize top it is so versatile! You are right, it is such a good pattern. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Hi Kathy! We are not far away from you in a couple of days, in WV. It was so cold and wet when we left the UK, we just didn't get a Summer this year! Lovely to be in heat and sunshine now ☀️. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Carole, enjoy your vacation! We are also heading to the US in another week driving from Canada with our trailer(caravan) to Bar Harbor, Maine. Beautiful Atlantic Coast area. Love your makes and I have some jersey that I think I will try the New Look 6217 with. The quilted fabric is lovely and I am with you and like the solid navy on the outside and the print on the inside. I do love the Grainline Tamarack jacket and it would have been a excellent choice if your weather was suitable for it. Take care!
Thanks Brenda. Hope you have a fantastic trip as well. We have visited Maine and New England but a long time ago, it is such a beautiful coastline. I'm very envious of your caravan trip! I do hope to use the Tamarack Jacket at some point maybe in a more Summery fabric for Spring don't worry. Safe travels 🧵😊
Great makes as usual! Love all the tops. I had to show your train ride video to my son who loves steam engines since he was a little boy watching Thomas the Tank Engine. Have a great trip!
Carole, I store my patterns like you do and Jen! It’s helped me so much. A while back I went looking for a pattern looking for number on envelope. Each drawer has a different company. I had switched two numbers! For example, instead of copying 1234 from envelope, I wrote 1243! Well no wonder I couldn’t find it. But my little description on the envelope was what triggered me to look inside at the directions sheet. I’m assuming I kept going when I was tired instead of taking a brain break🤣🤣🤣 Have a great vacation/holiday! Everything is beautiful! Great embroidery design.
That is so funny that you switch the numbers once with the patterns because Jen commented saying the same thing 😂. I did check that but no luck and I also checked all the drawers, where oh where has it gone?! 😂. Thank goodness it isn't just me anyway, I will have a better look when I get home back. Thanks for your holiday wishes and for watching. 🧵😊
S6217. My fave as well. Like you, no back seam, although I have reduced the neck opening by about 1.5 inches either side. I have probably made 6 or 7. So far….
Thanks so much for your comment. It is funny but I don't have a problem with this neckline whereas I do with others. You are not alone though judging by my comments! 6 or 7... that could actually be more than me 🤣. We do get value out of that pattern don't we. 🧵😊
I love your tops. I also have a favourite top pattern that I’ve used at least 6 times but they all look different. I really laughed at your description of you winning the jackpot.😂😂 Have a lovely holiday. Pat
Thanks so much Pat, I am really intrigued to find out which top pattern is your tried and true?! Oh winning those tickets was the funniest thing that's happened to me in a long time 😂. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and also your holiday wishes, thank you 🧵😊
I love easy patterns and the tops are great. Very like New Look 6216. Are they really as similar as they look? I’ve not got the other one and I’m wondering if I should get it. Also the vest. It’s a great idea to use the blue backing side. I’ve got one of this floral quilted jackets and I never wear it for just that reason, even though it’s lovely. Good luck with that one. Have a lovely holiday. I’m really envious of Halloween in the US. Trish S
Hi Trish. You are the second person to ask me about the difference between those two patterns and if you can wait a couple of weeks I'll do a comparison video. Before that however, they are similar the way I make them. Really 6217 should be woven with a back seam and opening. Eliminating that makes it like 6216 but the hem on 6217 is curved. Hope that helps! 🧵😊
Enjoy your holidays, Carole. Beautiful makes. The train ride looks amazing :) There is Harry Potter experience with whole steam train somewhere in Scotland. It's on our bucket list (Kris wants to do it most) 😂 I have Oakley vest printed. It's on my to do list for October :)
Thanks so much Agata. How funny you are doing the Oakley as well, we should have collabed on that instead 😂. There is a Harry Potter experience in London too, Ollie is now desperate to do that for his birthday in April now. Have a great weekend 🧵😊
The Halloween dress for your daughter is really cute. Your shirts are so lovely. Enjoy your holiday in America, Carole. You definitely deserve some time away from filming for us. Will see you when you return.
Thanks so much Carol, I have just taken a break from battling with the dress to answer some comments 😂. I will definitely miss vlogging and you all but it is the sensible thing to do and maybe I should chat to my husband about sewing all holiday instead! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
I see nothing wrong with using a pattern over & over again. If it works, use it! That's what I say... Enjoy your time in the U.S.!! Did I hear correctly? You'll be here for 2 whole weeks?? I have a feeling you'll come across a few fabric stores along the way that will peak your interest...
We are in the US!! Yes we staying in Virginia for two weeks and have been seeing the sights in Washington DC today! I haven't come across a sewing shop yet but we have only been here 22 hours 🤣. Hope all is well with you, I'm only a couple of states away now! PS did you notice Corfe Castle in my photos!! Xx
Virginia and the area there in the East surrounding are beautiful as well. It's probably just a bit early for the stunning Fall colors. That's what I miss most with living in Florida -- the changing of the seasons. By the way, William used to live in Virginia and commute to work in DC for several years. That was years before I knew him though. I most certainly did see Corfe Castle in your video and remember it well. I just chose not to say anything about it because I don't want to be the lady who always comments "been there, done that" sort of thing; however, since you asked...lololololol... I believe that was one of the first areas that my friends took me to see. I remember they said it was known to be "haunted". That was the first "castle" (actually, it's castle ruins, isn't it?) I visited in person. As for DC, that is a very interesting, historic area of our country with so much to see. I have been to DC but never got in on a tour of the White House. There was some sort of big political meeting back at the time I was there and all the White House tours were cancelled. So, no, I haven't been through our nations White House but, yes, I've toured through your nation's Buckingham Palace. LOLOLOL... Have fun!!
@@DebsWay you see I am so jealous you have done Buckingham Palace! One day I hope to do that. We had a fab day walking round DC yesterday and it was so quiet being August. When we came with the kids about 17 years ago you could get a lot nearer to the White House that's for sure! When I put up my videos I had you in mind with that photo of Corfe 🥰. Off to Georgetown today then onto the mountains for the rest of the holiday. Have a good week 😘 xx
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I was told they were flying geese and not triangles as I said, you can tell I know nothing about quilting! 🧵😊
Hi Carole,I’m introducing you to a rabbit hole. There are two websites online with embroidery designs that I recommend. Embroidery library and urban threads every month they offer a free design and they offer specials. Your pre-quilted fabric scraps will make wonderful bags. My husband and I took the steam train in Scotland. The one that is featured as the Hogwarts express. Just gorgeous. Have a wonderful vacation.❤🧵🧵✈️
Thanks so much for those two recommendations of embroidery sites. There is a reason I am changing to Brother designs but I will explain in a video very soon 😀. Funnily enough I said to Izzy about using the quilted scraps for bags so I can see the flowery side, great minds think alike. Agata told me about the steam train in Scotland, I had no idea that was a thing. There is a Harry Potter experience in London that my kids went to years ago, Ollie wants to go for his birthday now! Thanks for watching and I'll certainly check out the websites you recommend anyway 🧵😊
Thank you so much! I have learnt in the past it is so much easier to embroider something first so I cut out the piece as normal and then embroider it crossing my fingers all the time it will be okay 🤣. 🧵
Hi Carole! That quilted fabric is just lovely. Please let us know how you get on with seams when you do sew up that vest. I have a WHIP jacket in a quilted fabric I purchased at Joanne's some time ago. OMG! The seams got so thick- I had to unpick the quilting stitching in all the seams and remove the batting in those seams. Such a lot of work. The jacket is mostly finished, but there is still some finishing to do on the collar. Wanting to know how others do with quilted fabric when it comes to the seams. It does get bulky. Happy Holiday and I will miss you, but will look forward to seeing what you bring back. Are you getting to Wisconsin? That's where I am. 🥰
Hi Teresa, I certainly will report back when I make that jacket, I see foresee what you mean about the seams and sounds like it is the same type of fabric. Good idea to remove the batting but a lot of work! I imagine doing the binding gets very tricky. Well that is something to look forward to when I get back 😂😂. Thanks so much for the good holiday vibes, sadly we aren’t heading your way we are a few states down in Virginia. Maybe one day! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
I’m not sure what happened, but the comment I left on your vlog a few minutes ago is gone. I live a bit north of Orlando, and there’s a wonderful fabric store called the Sewing Studio in our area. They have so much fabric that you wouldn’t find in the bigger chain stores. Have a fun trip over here!
Hi and so sorry RU-vid did something mysterious to your comment! We aren't going to Florida this time we are heading to Virginia but I know the store you mean! I met Grace and Deb there in March and we had a good old shop. I have also been there with Jen and Trish, you are right, it is a fabulous place. Maybe I will meet you then when I next visit 😊. Thanks so much for watching 🧵😊
Hi there. I made the Fran Top a year ago and talked about it in my Friday sees dated 28th Sept. Hope you can find it! It's titled Tale of 2 Style Arc tops and I talked about the Sunny as well. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Hey Carole. I have an extra copy (new) of NL 6344 if you cannot find yours. Will have to wait until all my things get delivered from CA and unpacked before I can get my hands on it and send it to you. If you still can't find your pattern within the next month or so, let me know and I will send a copy to you via "happy mail". Enjoy your holiday!!! xx Dori
Hi Dori! Thanks so much for the offer of a 6344, I will have a proper look when I get back...looking in every single envelope and I will get back to you. No rush to make any more Summer tops after this holiday anyway! Thanks so much for the positive holiday vibes, we are very excited. Have a good weekend 🧵😊xxx
Why can’t you still make the jacket but as you said use the blue side if the original pattern has cuffs etc the flowers would look nice. It doesn’t always rain if you need a jacket or coat I don’t know what part of England you live in 😂
Ha ha I have a tendency to always be cautious in my coat choice! What I mean is, a coat like that without a hood really has limited use for a certain type of weather, dry and crisp autumn or spring days. Plus it's more suited to shopping or going out somewhere. My outdoor time tends to only be walking in the countryside 😆 I don't sew anything I'm not going to make good use of so making a gilet out of it will get far more wear I agree though, turned back flowery cuffs would have been perfect! Thanks for watching and your comment 🧵😊.
