Have you heard Tom Macdonald "No Lives Matter" it in 2 days went to number 1 on itunes ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t86ClLM3ZGY.html
In truth, one of my least favorite YES tracks. I was big with their progressive 1970s works. Second concert I ever saw was on their "Tourmato" tour (Led Zep was 1st). When this came out around 1984 it seemed more of a pop track or at least basically structured in contrast to their previous works. Kind of a cool sound, but more commercial than I was used to. being more pop-styled, naturally it was more popular with the masses. I'm more of a "Perpetual Change", "Awaken" or "Gates Of Delirium" kind of YES fan. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-59feSG8U5EQ.html Whatever is up, let the music play! Peace to all!
Wow. As a older Black man...Im amazed. Its good to see a brother into this music. In the 70s and 80s, I got chastized and ostracized in my hood for listening to Yes, ELP and Zappa and other Prog/Fusion music. Brothers hated the philosophy in it, and Sistas complained you cant dance to it, because they kept changing the beat. But I kept listening. Still listening. Great video.
I live in a ranch in mexico where most people listen to is old mexican rancheras. And i too get critizised for listening to this kind of music. but that's the problem; The people who don't have an open mind of cultural experience. Stay open to the good stuff.
DLX I'm with you on this, as a matter of fact JUST last week, my sister and I (both mid 60's) were telling my 45 year old niece how we had to literally be rock closet cases, because this just wasn't acceptable in our 'hood. Don't get me wrong we loved our 70's and 80's funk and R&B...but we hard rockers as well.
Trevor Horn (former bassist and singer for The Buggles: Video Killed The Radio Star) was the producer and largely responsible for the way this song turned out. He had to do a lot of arguing and convincing of the musicians involved to use samples, programming, tight drum sound and a more "tech" approach. The guitar solo was recorded, then cut into samples, then the samples were patched together over the solo track. Horn was a genius.
YES , YES , YES ,YES ,YES !!! And yes they are all musical geniouses , the first incarnation especially , all the members were formally trained if memory serves me correctly , ck out some of the stories regarding songs Starship troopers and the like .
Man, you are the only "true" reactionary who appreciates the music. Everyone else only does so for the clicks and it shows with their obvious overreactions.
Lost in Vegas. They don't BS. If they're not fans, they'll try to work out what's good but clarify what they don't like. If they like it, you know it. If they love it, they show it.
There are two things happening here. Classic music that has defined their various genres and Jamel-Jamal who defines what it is to be a great human being. What a pleasure it is to watch you dig this music that you didn't grow up with. What an open mind you have. Love who are and what you do :-)
@Mellissa Boomer of the Night one of my great sadness is never being able to see Led Zepplin in concert. I was born 7 years after they broke up. My parents were lucky enough to see them in concert.
I have always said and still contend that the eighties had the absolute hands down best music. My friends used to tease me for being the whitest black guy because of the range of music I have. I just love and appreciate good music doesn't matter who does it. Just like this guy!
@@arrowbflight5082 I'll have to strongly disagree. Prince - Kiss, Aerosmith/Run DMC-Walk this way, Madonna's True Blue album, Jody Watley, Whitney Houston's second album debut at No.1, Janet Jackson- what have you done for me lately/when I think of you both hits , Tina Turner released her second album th follow up to her huge comeback album, an unknown school teacher named Anita Baker released her first hit, etc. I think you have it backwards, there were lots of one hit wonders from '85 on but there were numerous songs that were hits just in 86 alone. I became a DJ in 84 and have been one ever since, maybe a lot wasn't your taste, but there was a lot of fun good music.
"Be yourself! Give your free will a chance. You've got to WANT to succeed." If you need motivation, or to give yourself a swift kick in the butt, this is it.
This is the song that made me a fan. Loved the unique voice of Anderson and the harmony - just wow. It also made me listen to the older stuff like Roundabout (awesome by the way). The live version of Roundabout is the best
@ I am well aware who came first though Tony was timid about using the synthesizer and that is when they chose Rick, who was in The Strawbs , to replace Tony with his genius synths playing!
You're the only reaction video channel that actually appreciates the music many of us grew up with in the 80's. You always have something of substance to share in breaking down the message of the music. That's refreshing.
This was a great reaction. Thank you for reminding me how great this song was after not having heard it for a couple of decades. Jamel--just want to tell you that your personal motto got me through this entire election season. I was getting stress to the point that it was physically painful between COVID-19 keeping everyone socially isolated and the twin hate-filled echo chambers that most of my friends were inhabiting on social media (I have large numbers of friends in both major political parties). When I would remind myself to be humble, be kind, and just be a good human, spreading peace, joy, and love, it was the only time I could decompress and it became something of a mantra to me. Thank you for being a little beacon of sanity in the social media landscape, sir. The work you do on this channel is far more important than you will ever know.
Well said DM watching this awesome man reacting like he does opened my eyes to the music I loved but haven't listened to for awhile and get to live as though it is the 1st time hearing it.
I'm glad he appreciates good songs, I remember buying this as a 12"single, back in the day, loved Yes, LZ were my all time favs tho, must be over 30yrs since I last heard this , wonderful memories . Keep playing these classic songs!! X
So eloquently and insightfully written. Jamel IS, indeed, a beacon of hope, sanity, love and humanity for so many of his listeners. He's the guy, at least I can honestly say, with whom I would be good friends if we worked together. He reminds me of many rays of sunshine I've had the pleasure and privilege of knowing & befriending in my life. What a great human! Stay strong and be safe. ✌❤😊🎶

This is the first album Trevor Rabin did with Yes. He is a musical genius. Aside from his rock career and music writing. Those guitar tones were new for the time, no one else was doing that. He also wrote the musical scores for dozens of movies, including "Armageddon", "Bad Boys II", "National Treasure", "Gone in 60 Seconds", and many others. He brought new life to Yes. I happen to love both Classic Yes (Pre Trevor) and the re-energized Yes.
YES is why I play music and why I've been a Professional Guitar Repairman for 44 years. Specifically, the YES song that made me hear music was the song Roundabout off the YES FRAGILE album. I will never forget hearing that the first time.
I cannot tell you enough what an absolute joy it is to go on these musical journeys with you and how cool it is to see you discovering the music I grew up on or making those full-circle connections with the music you remember from your own childhood! In fact my co-worker and I discovered tonight at work that we are both huge fans of yours!! (Hey Christina!! ) I knew you would love this song!
From this same album, check out "Leave It". At the time, YES had just got back together from a hiatus and had newly hired guitarist Trevor Rabin, who wrote alot of the music and had helped breathe new life into the band.
The secret weapon behind the resurgence of Yes was the addition of South African guitarist and composer Trevor Rabin. The man is brilliant. He started out with 70’s rock group Rabbitt... here’s a link to their version of Jethto Tull’s Locomotive Breath: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UdVYPzO9hUQ.html
The group "Yes" always had a very uplifting and wholesome outlook throughout their work. It's no wonder that their music meshes so well with your positive upbeat personality.
I would love to see yo react to "I've Seen All Good People." BTW, the lead singer is a true tenor. No matter how high the notes, he's singing naturally, not using falsetto.
I want to share with you two songs you might not have heard or were aware of that Jon guested on. This one I was going through the radio stations when I came upon a Christian channel and heard this. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xry2mUM0e4c.html And Moonlight Desires with Lawerence Gowan ( keyboardist for STYX ) who he somehow convinced to spend a ton of cash on this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ERgQ4KjSahg.html
This reaction is so pure! Great band. Great song. Sometimes it feels like they really crafted a song back in the day. Like every detail was thought about to maximize smooth feelings. So good.
I've been working from home for eight months now. Some days that last hour long stretch I feel like I'm not gonna make it. I put my headphones on, put your reactions on and you help me get through to the end of the day. Thanks for the love.
Jamal, you would make a great musical, life giving, psychotherapist. You catch on to the lyrics in the songs and then relate real life experiences. What a gift you are to your audience! May you continue your journey as we continue ours - with the universal language of music.
The love they lyric this song has. "You got to want to suceed" is such a great line. A owner with a lonely heart has never had love but has the chance to love and find someone while someone with a broken heart had love for a fleating moment but now has no love and is lonely without one. Has a great message. "Dont deceive your free will at all" is also a great line.
Song "Roundabout" is one of my favorite by the group "Yes." I remember I even had my teenage son's listening to that group, and I'm talking my son's we're teenagers in 2005 they liked them that much,.. Even though the group "Yes" was from their moms time from her teenage years!
Jamel, YES... we had never heard anything like them before or since. They redefined Music and took it to another plane, another level. Awesome is not a good enough word for them!
wow! owner!! at last reacted to by someone who truly appreciates it jamal, well done man great reaction, one of my favourite 80s songs ever. blew me away when i heard this when i was only fifteen great music and life lesson rolled into one .keep up the great reactions ; )
I was lucky to see Jon Anderson's solo act just before his big health problems started, at Gatineau Quebec about 10 years ago. He was fabulous and had many amusing stories about Vangelis.
As new elements of the music reveal themselves, he appreciates and has the vocabulary to explain why. Form and content. I remember how much fun this was to dance to!
The fist time I heard this I was driving to work and it came on the radio. I had to pull off the road and sit and listen. Thanks for sharing your reaction.
HOLY COW, MAN!!!!! This song came out the year after I graduated HIGH SCHOOL in 1982, and I *NEVER* noticed the cow bell until you just now mentioned it!!!!! LOL
Jon Anderson has that voice, what a voice!!! YES is a beautiful group, all their songs are filled with esoteric wisdom, imagine being a teenager and listening to this!! (I did and was!!) and then watching them LIVE in the Civic Arena, in Pittsburgh, Pa...what a concert, think it was 1973 or 1972 but either way, unforgettable!!! Love them to this day!! Lyrics are insanely inspirational!! Jamel, you are so cool! Keep up the great work, telling the world about all this groovy and great music!!! xx :-)
@@p0rridge to me, the music is better. It's more complex. It has more depth. That's why I like Prog Rock over Pop Rock, because there's more structure to it and it's not formula rock
They are so awesome...life lessons in lyrics... uplifting, you can follow each instrument flow...just such a pleasure to listen to them. Also, the Messenger is about Bob Marley, who was an inspiration to Ian Anderson, lead singer,
There are times when a musical group just seems to mesh, when every note from every instrument is just so spot on that it carries you away. This song is one of those.
Hey Jamel, I've been away for a while, just have to say that I like your new "studio." On the philosophical side, you have truly ascended to the lofty world of the "Prog Rocker" Keep climbing my brother, there is much to hear and ponder.
Seen other reaction to this, and ALWAYS a smile when the cowbell comes in. It defines the rhythm, especially for people who are really sensitive to it.
