Another thrifter walks by a bargain! Tag along with Ph.D. Antiques Appraiser Dr. Lori as she goes #shopping for #treasure at the Goodwill Thrift shop in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Watch as she continues to dispel the myth that items at thrift stores are overpriced. See a newly made ceramic Portuguese pitcher, hand painted plates and a glass table that are all bargains.
Dr. Lori also finds Blue White Staffordshire England transferware, Homer Laughlin and Limoges plates that are underpriced. She shows you the marks too. Plus, see a piece of Bassett furniture that could easily be restored with a #diy project. Listen to Dr. Lori's suggestions on the piece.

I am a 30 year old guy who collects Limoges porcelain, trust me…we younger folk can be serious collectors of antiques too. I have driven hours to acquire pieces and paid good money. Everything I know about it I’ve learned from Dr.Lori!! She has renewed my love of antiques and I’m so happy to have found her channel a few years ago. Keep being amazing!! We all love you and your incredible knowledge 💝

See my post. I totally understand your enthusiasm. I'm 70 and have a love of antiques, antique porcelain and glassware since I was 12 or 13 yrs old. Love Fenton. I love furniture as well. My father bought and sold antiques, so I guess I was born into it. I am fortunate to have some wonderful family heirlooms. None of which I can bear to part with. I agree, Dr Lori is a terrific, knowledgeable resource. If you chose wisely, what you have will only increase in value. Antiques are our history, and ultimately our legacy to those we love.

As crazy as it sounds, my middle daughter and I have actually gone into a store and place alike items together on shelves to assist people finding them all at once instead of having to search the shelves for them. We know how frustrating it is to have to hunt for the other pieces to sets when the stockers are to lazy to put them together on the shelves.

Dr. Lori, Just love the Good Will shopping video's. My daughter has just graduated college and is furnishing her first real apartment. She loves all things traditional mixed with MCM styling. The idea of setting a table with China/Candles/Silver/beautiful table clothes is exactly what she and her friends love. They enjoy having cocktails in beautiful glasses and whiskey in the decanters is right in line with her taste. Brass is back as well as jewel moody colors. She is getting married and I am throwing her a Hi Tea Shower, of course. So i agree China/porcelain is on trend with young people today. They love the vintage quality of the pieces.

I have a few of those beautiful glass/brass tables late 70's early 80's the glass was broken on one and the other one the glass was missing- took to a stone place and they made beautiful marble tops for me- it was marble left over from another job- so I got a great price- I left the tables with them and they made the tops and beveled the edges cost me less than 125.00 for a coffee table and an end table

Hey Dr. Lori, thanks for the video. I picked up Villaroy and Boch Basket pattern plates and three rice bowls at my local Goodwill the other day. The rice bowls turned out to be insanely rare, and I was able to resell them even with the utensil marks on the inside. It's always fun to rummage around the glass and china sections of my local Goodwills.

The "German Trying To Look Like Limoges" plates are pretty ---- would look nice with some Belleek serving pieces I think. At 5:45 when you're showing the lovely rose and gilded plate I see "Mikasa Annette" cups in the background. That was my wedding china (for everyday use) from 35 years ago and I have a TON of it!!! It's actually all wrapped up and stored in a cupboard in the garage in lieu of Corelle (which is also lighter weight) because my husband is a "breaker!!!" and that type of Mikasa dishware is fairly easy to chip or break. I just couldn't bear it (all those lovely people who spent good money - and it wasn't cheap, even in 1989) buying us our chosen china --- now I have mint-condition dinnerware I never see or use. That 70s Basset Dry Sink would make a stupendous changing station for a baby! You wouldn't feel that bad about altering it a bit and it's SO sturdy and strong.
@janethowe8812
@janethowe8812 5 месяцев назад
Mikasa makes absolutely beautiful dinnerware. I'm so sorry you have yours packed away. My partner had a set of 4 (bachelor) Corelle dinner plates when I moved in with him. I replaced them with my stoneware. Fortunately, I didn't have a "breaker," but instead, someone who thought my dishes were "too heavy." He also didn't like my good set of Oneida flatware. The forks were "too heavy." Sometimes you just can't win. LOL.

Dr. Laura, remind us occasionally during thrifting, whe you say " you could buy this pitcher for $1, but sell it for $40, where dear can we consider good places to sell? The same for picture, aka artwork, buy a painting for $10 but bcuz of a, b, c criteria market value is about $200, again ideas on where to best sell this particular item might be, where? Thanks Dr. Laura!❤

I have a Haviland Limoges tea set that I acquired when I was a young teen. I'm now 70. So you can see how long I've been a lover of Limoges. This is a set of 8 cups, saucers and small plates. The cups are very thin, very small. I was told when I was a kid, by an in-the-know great- great auntie, that this particular factory in France had likely been destroyed during WW2. It has a delicate flower motif with gold trim. As I said, the cups and saucers are extremely thin (almost transparent) porcelain. It almost looks too small for an adult tea cup. Unless that was the fashion of the Brits, etc, during the 1800s. I'm thinking it may have been a child's tea set. I know that more affluent families may have purchased fine china play tea sets for their daughters, around late 1800s. I have no idea the value of this set, but would love to find out. Does anyone know of online resources that I might use to research these? I don't think it has a pattern name on the bottom, but I could certainly make a match visually. I'm not so concerned about the value of it. Curious, but I probably could never part with it. Unless, of course, I could retire to the Bahamas on it. Then I might consider it. Lol. I just thought this might be a good place to get some suggestions from others, since I don't know sites to research. Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated. Ty.
