In 1978 I took this album to an electronics store in Buffalo to take some speakers for a test drive. Parallels for the bass range, Wonderous Stories and Turn of the Century for the vocals, and Awaken for how the quieter parts sounded. In the end I bought a pair of bookshelf JBLs that I still have. Refoamed a few times. By the time I left half the sales staff had become Yes fans. Been a Yes fan for over 50 years and their old stuff is still on my regular rotation. Great reaction Dan and Sifa!

Awesome band Toby! Got into them in the early 80's and have been listening to their music ever since. Saw them twice and besides RUSH they were second to none.

Very good song from an excellent band, however their peak years were 1971-1974. "I've seen all the good people", "Starship Trooper", "The Fish", "Siberian Kathru", "And You and I", "Gates of Delirium", "Roundabout"... Some of the real gems on their catalog.

From their eighth studio album, 'Going for the One,' it reached No. 7 on the UK singles chart. The album topped the UK album charts in the summer of 1977 and received positive reviews from critics. It is considered a classic in the Yes discography. Going for the One, recorded after a three-year hiatus and with Wakeman back, is a celebratory, crisply recorded return. The uptempo sections rock as hard as their finest moments, while the more quiet interludes again demonstrate the beautiful subtleties and complexities that Yes had effortlessly poured out before. - The Rolling Stone Record Guide

A great song! Not my favourite YES period but there's no denying the quality here. They're going for a more commercial sound but they don't sacrifice their integrity one bit. Well done to Chaz for the initial request.

70s Yes, the Best! Amazing musical talent all of them. I saw this tour (Going For the One) in 1977, I was 16 and my first rock concert! My personal favorite is the Album Close to the Edge. Three musical Masterpieces!

This song is from the "Going for the One" album, and that is a really spectacular album, not a single "ok" song on it. Every song is a masterpiece. This album is also the first album where Rick Wakeman had returned after leaving the band after the "Tales from the Topographic Oceans." The previous album, "Relayer" had Patrick Moraz playing keyboards for Yes. A great example of a later version of Yes is the song "Homeworld" from the album "The Ladder." You can find a live version if you search YT, and it's well worth watching! "The Ladder" had yet a different keyboardist, Igor Korochev, and he was really amazing on that album as well.

I just find this to be a beautiful song. So glad SAD digs it! I recently read that when Yes went into record the Going For The One album that Patrick Moraz was still their keyboardist and that this was a fully formed song before they sacked Moraz and brought Rick Wakeman back. I would love to hear the original with Moraz, but have never been able to find it. Ive seen these guys a bunch of times. First time 1976 JFK Stadium Philadelphia with Peter Frampton, Gary Wright, The Poucette Dart Band and the fucking Mummers. Patrick Moraz was still in the band then. But still, what a beautiful song!

Steve Howe has claimed he was playing a Portuguese guitar that his sister gave him on this track (as well as "Your Move"), but it's actually a Spanish laúd (lute) on both songs.

Yes has been my favorite band since 1976. Check out Yours is No Disgrace, A Venture, Starship Trooper, And you and I, then hit Close to the Edge, and always listen first to the studio version before doing live, as it was long ago and the audio and video quality is lacking in some of the old songs.

"A Venture" is a song that doesn't get anywhere near the respect it deserves... If you haven't heard it, on the Steven Wilson remix of "The Yes Album," has an extended version of "A Venture" that adds more than a minute of experimental jamming and a different ending that the original album just used to fade out.

my favourite Yes song. Saw them twice. Second time with all original line up. Yes, they were wondrous. p.s they didn't have a support band (I mean, like, who?) what they did have were the most hilarious Bugs Bunny cartoons I have ever seen. We laughed so hard we hurt (but we were extremely high). I have watched them since and they are still hilarious ("Kill de wabbit, kill de wabbit") Wagner's ring Cycle a la Elmer Fudd.

My favorite prog. Rock band. I was lucky enough to see them at MSG back in 1979 with my brother The classic lineup played, Jon, Alan Chris, Steve, and Rick ! This was a light and happy tube. Chris Squire was and all time great bass player and the backbone. Try listening to Roundabout and Heart of The Sunrise which will blow your mind!

From the same album you should react to "Awaken". Singer Jon Anderson cites it as the best thing Yes ever recorded. Enough said! It's an absolutely monstrously beautiful, innovative, inventive song that will take your breath away.

Hey Dan have you ever played a Portuguese acoustic guitar? Lol...I didn't even they had one .anyway Steve Howe can play any guitar masterfully and Rick Wakeman did his usual phenomenal job on keyboards. The late Chris Squire is dope on bass all the time.😊

If you listen to parallels from the same album as wonderous stories made in 76 released in 77 parallels is an anti drug song listen to the opening verse. The entire album GOING FOR THE ONE is Yes at their most perfect.

I know you guys have great musical knowledge and are open-minded. I could gush about Yes but I know you already know what great musicians they are. Their best attribute is they are endlessly creative and innovative in their experimentation with composing totally unique works. They have created numerous songs that sound like nothing anyone has ever manifested. My suggestions for you are Close to the Edge and Gates of Delirium, two stand-alone masterpieces. But be warned , they are both extremely long compositions, but they are totally worth the effort. Enjoy

I really need to educate you guys on the members of Yes on this album, "Fragile, " and this song, "Long Distance, " are: Jon Anderson >lead vocals; Bass guitar > Chris Squire; Steve Howe > guitars; Rick Wakeman > keyboards; Bill Bruford > drums and percussion.
