Yes you can bind ExpressLRS without flashing firmware even though it doesn't have a bind button

@@Cre8ionz. assuming someone writes the code for it, then yeah sure! It's an open source project, so features only come about if someone donates some time to write it, and so far no one has really focused on LBT.

Thank you for putting in the work so this could be possible, I just used it to bind my first 5 inch and was it worked flawlessly!

@@MCsCreations my crossfire came assembled and binds to crossfire recievers without building a lewis script for binding purposes.

I bought the iFlight Commando 8 and the Bardwell edition of the QAV-S but I’m having issues binding and finding proper steps on how to bind. Any advice? Thanks!

No, it changes nothing at all.

Watch out the stores are full of botched up returned hacked parts . 85% of the recievers i bought are not binding .

That's usually only a problem with the receiver specified UART I think, moving to a different UART (if available) often corrects the problem.

Sounds like the same problem I have with an EP1 connected to the succex-e F4 board.

Also had that problem on a Tinyhawk 2 freestyle. Kinda sucks having it lying around after buying spare parts, etc

So do i press the micro module button 3 times to bind or just the nano module 3 times? I long press and the oled module screen says " binding...." But never binds . It is new and never flashed or upgraded . It is version 1.0.0

@@chrisnoren777 After i bought NANO module on the tx and NANO rx on the drone . No flashing or firmware updatig . They come with the same firmware . But 915mhz is hard to find it seems now . Beta fpv brand works out of box nano tx nano rx

@@chrisnoren777 Beta fpv brand nano tx and beta fpv nano rx bind ready out of the box. The bigger square beta fpv micro module binds with beta fpv brand lite recievers . Ep1 and ep2 are names of different antennas the lite recievers come with .

@@chrisnoren777 Yes i got one nano 915mhz reciever to bind out of 6 . The other 5 act like they just do not bind . I tried for a week . Each reciever . The one that did bind works great . But 5 out of 6 don't work . You could buy a crossfire module and 3 tbs recievers for the cost of those 6 recievers .

The number one reason is, your radio doesn't have an ELRS module. Like, if you accidentally bought the 4-in-1 version of the radio. Number two reason is, in Model Setup screen, you don't have CRSF selected for the internal or external module (whichever one your ELRS radio is on).

What controller are you using? Some controllers can only store one bind at a time.

Factory firmware nanotx and nano rx are supposed to match without flashing or lua script . But if you buy one it might be a used broken one . Open source is fixing something that is not broken and ending up with a swamp of ruined parts all flashed with " different" versions of firmware anybody can write in . My guess is people return the broken recievers after flashing open source programming on them with flakey noisy home computer and the stores wipe them off and sell them to you next

If you have flashed the receiver with a binding phrase, the RX won't ender bind mode. Also if the version of OpenTX on the receiver doesn't match the RX then they won't bind.

@@JoshuaBardwell Thank you for replying, I meant to say I haven’t yet flashed any firmware what ever firmware that’s on the tx and rx is from the factory. I have windows 7 still lol I need to upgrade my computer to run the configurator .

I'm curious but how does the receiver know how long to count when it's unpowered? Is there a capacitor that just barely keeps the chips on for long enough?

If using this method, binding phrase doesn't matter.

The complexity of keeping up with an open source project and flashing firmware has always been one of the main downsides of ELRS. I'm not sure where you heard it was "easy to use". I disagree with that claim. It's not hard to use if you have a little technical know-how, and of course I have made tutorials for lots of it. To answer your question, you do not have to flash any ELRS receiver. You can bind them to the radio as I show in this video and treat them like any other receiver and never update the firmware ever. But you will be missing out on a ton of new features that the ELRS devs are constantly adding, which many people feel is an appeal of the project.

New modules and new recievers are version 1 and can bind with just button pressing .

Some radios / controllers that come with ELRS built in don't have the ability to have a binding phase, and therefore will not bind to an RX if the said RX has a binding phase.

Using a binding phrase makes it to complicated

In desperation i pressed the button and powered it on and held it 10 seconds and it simulated bind solid blue . But i think it went into wifi update blinking fast .

I had no problem with any of my 900mhz receivers but just bought 2 FLYWOO 2.4ghz receivers and cant get them to bind either

Did you long press the module button after getting the reciever into bind mode by powering it 3 times so that it double blinks double blinks double blinks ? Or if you have a nano module did you try pressing the module button 3 times to bind ?

@@gregorydahl Hi Gregory. What Module are you talking about? The actual receiver or the module on the back of the TX16S?

@@gregorydahl I tried everything. Tried to bind with Tango 2, Full Xfire Module, different firmware. All in all I think I spent a whole day. Threw it out!

@@classics967 i spent about 18 hours . I tried the red plastic frsky r9m system too and it did not work either . It is back in storage . My crossfire binds without lua script . But it has low rssi warnings . I put a $9 2.4ghz radio control signal booster on a syma x5c toy drone once and matched the distance range . I'm going to try to bind the express lrs 915mhz again tonight .
