Retrospective content isn't my personal thing, but I would be damned if I didn't support these versions of it. The amount of time and effort is honestly impressive, and I support it with a sub simply for that.

regarding the Splitting fingers: i can actually see a niche case argument for them: "I need a high input speed, but i cannot afford to use a direct neural link or jack, and must maintain an airgap to the system", the splitting fingers would let him enter data/hack/whatever fair fast, while the cybereyes would also let him visually see data fair fast as well, perhaps? all while mainting an airgab to a hostile, or virus infected system(or machine, or corpse, whatever)

Yeah that's a fair point. I still feel that they'd find a more efficient solution to that problem than just having loads and loads of fingers somehow, but yeah there's definitely an argument for them. Anyway the shot does do a good job of adding visual interest and making the guy look uncanny, threatening (and cool!) Thanks for watching.

My friend and writing mentor wrote the English version of this films which she adapted from the original Japanese. She's personally behind The Puppet Masters speech and I'm amazed she wrote this stuff when she was actually quite young. Awesome analysis! I'm really enjoying your videos on films. Looking forward to seeing more. Cheers!

okay now I finished the video, great work and synthesis by bringing in other perspectives to it. I look forward to your other videos. Also good to know Mamoru is from North England, small world.

That ambivalence is also my favorite part, if not just because it's a more mature (imo) way of thinking about technology than the almost comically-negative view western media tends to take. Ghost in the Shell is the signpost that Japanese discussion of AI refers back to, the west's is....Terminator. As for the gender thing, I always feel like Shiro is at least touching on certain ideas, but from outside the western (and certainly outside the _current_ western) context. Even America felt very differently about gender back then, and Japan was even more traditional. That being said, it's alluded to in Stand Alone Complex that no one in Section 9 knows what the Major's birth sex was, and it's treated as a curiosity

first time i see motoko , i think it back in 1989 Aug young megazine .. i guess, she is in her last 40s (47-49) and every time i see her again she is a bit younger every time (Arise about 19-20) this is so funny. this series come a long way since the early story Apple Seed (story about biomechanics is the future. and we must surrender to biomechanics Ai 3 of them to rule this world) to GITS, one of artificial life forms want to merge with normal human, yes .. just one of it.

I’ve given this flick a couple tries now and, I dunno, I can’t get on board with it. I recognise its merits and the influence it’s had on cinema but I can’t connect. Which is strange because I loved Angel’s Egg which is esoteric as hell. Maybe it’s because I’ve seen the dub and not the original Japanese version Nice to see some John Gray appreciation. Don’t agree with everything the man says but I enjoy how he says it

Please, define "humanity". And when does it stop? What's the difference between Ai created intentionally and Ai created by evolutionary accident? Besides us feeling "special" in comparison to others because it's more comfortable that way.
