The Yeti 160E eMTB made some serious waves when it was released a couple of years ago, and for good reason. It was the brand's first electrified mountain bike in their 35 year history, 5 of which were spent developing this bike with CIA-like levels of secrecy and precision. Yeti ensured no corners were cut while trying to create the best eMTB possible, and that is abundantly evident when you ride and experience this bike. The 160E has been out on the trails for a couple of years now and the question remains: is it still one of the best eMTBs out there? We've been putting this bike to the test, so tune in and find out if it cuts the mustard or if it cuts the cheese.

Why Did you flag my comment? Just because I said E-Bikes are for 70 year olds or people with health issues(I mean no offense to either of those people)? Or was it because I asked whats happened to people wanting the lung busting,leg burning climbs? Or was it the cost of E-Bikes and that you could get a dirt bike that has so much more for less? I see teenagers riding E-Bikes and electric scooters.We are getting so lazy....

E bikes in general are amazing, instead of a 15 miles ride, I usually get in 24ish, same work out level in fact I would say I ride harder on my E than my penny farthing. I do still enjoy my banjo but the effort is not equal to the reward as appose to my E.

I picked one up when it was released. Still on her and absolutely love it. I've since installed a coil on the rear, installed Sram Transmission, TRP DHR EVO brakes, and some other upgrades. This bike will handle anything - I ride 90% of the time in Laguna on all the gnar trails and this thing just takes everything. This is my 4th Yeti (SB66c, SB6c, SB165 - which I still have - and then the 160E) and I can't say enough about how well their bikes are put together and ride.

Was against the whole e-bike thing for years! Always wanted to earn my rides. Been lucky enough to have been riding yetis since 1993! They fit me perfectly have always been very good to me! But between age and injuries,plus the sale late summer and a pending retirement I thought why not. Didn’t demo one, just bought one. Of course I fractured 3 ribs the day the bike showed up at my local shop…but this thing has been so much fun! Nice to climb like I was 25 again! Nice to keep up with my fit wife and not feel worked! Haven’t played around with the motor yet and going over 20mph would be nice. The battery life has been very good. I have been nothing but happy with this bike!!!! Off the thing for 6 weeks with a shoulder surgery but once cleared it’s been back to an everyday thing! Probably something that wouldn’t have happened with just a “normal” bike! One of the best purchases I’ve made!! Turq for life🤘

I haven't experienced any issues with Specialized latest version of Brose motor. No clunks, no issue with internal belts, nothing. I think all the issues have been addressed. Turbo Levo.. Been riding it for over a year. Up fork to 170 Zeb, cascade long stroke link w/ custom tuned EXT Storia.. dude! it's so good

I noted today the big flaw of this bike is that you need to dismount the motor just to get diagnostic port out or to install light wire. That design the frame covers the motor port and suck to get all that work just for a plug

I got a 160e last month and haven't stopped smiling since the first ride. The only negative is that it cuts off at 19 MPH. Is there a way to get over 20 MPH without voiding the warranty?

If you have a 23 or older Yeti with the EP8, not the EP801, the NLS Speedi works. You just need to make sure NLS has a unit that fits your particular hub. If your bike came with DT 240 or 350 hubs, 100% the Speedi works.

@@jimr3179 not sure what you're issue is with my comment....? If you dont have anything constructive to say then maybe you should keep your comments to yourself. Judging from your other comments below, you may want to do some research on eBikes and how it compares to an analog bike in terms of heart rate, fun factor, miles travelled, etc. To each his own, enjoy your ride!

A phat phuck(110kg kitted, 240+lb) like me, what can I EXPECC for range on trail and boost? I have the feeling id get about 25km, which gives me them range anxiety vibes. I really wannada buy an ebike, but feel I cater towards the Bosch system + 750wh battery. Its between 160e C1 with factory upgrades for 8500usd or Orbea Wild M11 9k usd.
@kevinkmiller
@kevinkmiller 7 дней назад
Range anxiety is the worst! For what it's worth, I'm 81.6kg/180lbs and can easily get 4600'/1400m of climbing using a mix of Trail and Boost modes on the 160e. I should also mention that I absolutely love this bike, but if I was north of 200lbs, I would be looking at huge-battery bikes like the Norcos. The 750wh or even 1000wh should get you through a pretty big ride without dipping into Eco.
@erichbachman7363
@erichbachman7363 7 дней назад
@@kevinkmiller Appreciate your insight! I have been testing three different eBikes as of late, and in the process of testing one now. First off was a 2020/2022(last gen Orbea WIld FS) Has the same Bosch CX4 as the new one(I'm really considering the new Wild btw). However using mostly eMTB gives me about 30km, and 8-900m of elevation on a 625, so a 750 might give me 35-40km and about 1km of ascending. Then I tested a Spesh Turbo Levo, 700wh. Got about 32km, 950m of climb, and had about 15-20% left, so best range so far. Used mostly mode 2 and a bit of mode 3. Testing the Orbea Rise now, I think its either 5 or 600wh battery. Got 32km and 750 meters of climb. I ahve to use Turbo on the steeper climbs, and mostly used that mode. The Rise uses less power, as the motor is weaker, and in turbo it felt strong enough. The Rise was so much mor playful and fun to ride, and my trails lends itself best to 140-150mm travel bikes in all fairness, but I still want 170 and fox 38 or Zeb xD. All of these bikes I tested were the cheapest version, so crap suspension and brakes, and alloy frames. The Wild FS and Spesh Turbo defiantly felt heavier than the Rise. I have yet to properly try the ep801, but I might be able to do a proper demo. After what I gathered(might be wrong) but the ep801/ep8 uses about 10-15% more battery so on the Yeti with a 625wh and ep801 on Turbo or the second highest setting I really fear I wont get more than 25km of range and maybe 8-900m of climbing. I don't have to go and ride 50km every ride ofc, but I wont be able to do those "epic" long rides that I thought I could. Having an extra bike as backup and having something to smash the same downhills a Tuesday afternoon, after work would surely be great too, so I'll see what I do :)
@erichbachman7363
@erichbachman7363 7 дней назад
..and even though I didn't get used to it, I defiantly think the overrun on bosch is a nice touch. Makes it so much easier to half pedal through chunk without getting pedal strikes, but I did get yeeted out of the trails some times too :)

Shimano is good, but is very hard to find parts on amazon. I cant find em900 165mm cranks and not to manny after markets for ep8 cranks. Cant find extra battery cant find di2 derelaur, cant find spare for my battery latch, cant find an email to ask for any question on shimano ep8. Sram has better support and easier to find parts on amazon.

When there's access to a 35lb, "full power" bike available, I'm in. Batteries weigh too much. Ca n't be placed in a frame for optimal balance, (many) can't be swapped out on trail without tools and some can't be removed at all (SL models). Motors are too heavy as well. 15lbs is a lot of weight to shed, even for a human, but mechanicals don't have poor eating habits. In order for e-bicycles to be all they can be, I believe that frame design and suspension tech must be integrated into the design as a whole. Blank sheet. Longest dropper post and two water bottles is what every rider wants. The rest is up for grabs.
@sjaan7370
@sjaan7370 6 месяцев назад
Well considering most enduro race bikes weigh 35lbs+, I'd say things are looking pretty good for the future of emtb. To be reasonable having a 'full fat' enduro emtb weighing in at ~40lbs would not only be impressive, it would be entirely understandable comparing it's weight to a non e-powered enduro bike. I mean the Kellys THEOS F100 is pretty light for a 825w battery and even closer is the Trance X Advanced E+ Elite.... and it's only 2024 😉

Good review but I flatly refuse to believe that any of you rode the bike for a year. Everything was believable except that you flat out lied about being able to ride 30miles and 4000 feet switching between modes….40 miles, you’ve got to be kidding. Maybe in Eco, turned down further, on hard packed fire roads or paved roads. Seriously! I ride in trail using profile 2 and I have the settings turned down a bit and the range is in the low 20s with 3100-3200 feet of climbing (that’s being generous). I ride a lot and have the Yeti, a couple of Gen3 Levos, and the new Tazer Pro (which has the ep801). Most guys that ride an ebike understand what their range is.

Interesting, because I literally just rode my 160e for a 25 mile ride with 5k elevation gain, and ended around 30% battery (2 bars).
@thomassobelman8350
@thomassobelman8350 6 месяцев назад
What mode/settings and how much do you weigh? I’m not saying it didn’t happen but there’s gotta be a realistic reason. The most I’ve ever gotten on my Levo with a 700wh battery in Eco was 36 miles and 4k. I think I still had a tiny bit of battery….the battery finished the ride in the low teens, even after riding the bike with no power as much as I could, verified by the display. It was a long ride and I had a full pack, I weighed at least 215. On the EP8 2 bars could be 21%
@kevinkmiller
@kevinkmiller 6 месяцев назад
I have heard of other people who aren't getting the range they would expect out of their 160e, but that isn't me. I'm regularly going over 4k, and occasionally over 5. I weigh 180lbs and stick with trail mode 95% of the time (stock settings). That said, boost mode will drain the battery really quick! I have also noticed the battery usage is greatly affected by the steepness of the climbs. I recently drained the battery on a 36 mile/6300' day- using Eco and Trail. On another day I only got 5300', but that was only 25 miles with pretty steep climbing.
