www.saltstrong....
We have often heard people say that a $30 YETI is rip-off because you could just buy a $.75 foam koozie and keep your beer (or any cold beverage) just as cold...
But when asked, no one could prove any evidence that a YETI Colster was any better or worse than an inexpensive koozie. So we set out to do the ultimate test by putting a cold beer in the following three situations for a full "99 minutes" and took temperatures at certain increments (because quite honestly, who takes 99 minutes to drink a beer...)
1) A "Naked" can beer with no koozie
2) A beer in a traditional foam koozie
3) A beer in a YETI Rambler Colster
What we found was that the YETI Rambler Colster definitely kept beer much cooler than both the traditional foam koozie and "naked beer".
You'll have to watch the full video or check out the blog to see all of the final numbers in this cold beer challenge.

Me: You can’t keep my beer cold for 99 minutes. Yeti Koozie: Hold my beer while I hold your beer.
@k.tanaka1866
@k.tanaka1866 2 года назад
the challenge is that you have to hold the beer to get real results (your hand will transfer the heat to the beer can much faster) and limit the timer to 5 minutes.

Great review! The Colster really works. Especially if your like me and set your beer down get sidetracked, then come back to it later its still cold. That alone its worth the investment. Works with bottles too!

I used my buddys and i was surprised, out here in south Texas if you don't drink your beer in 5 minutes its gonna start getting hot, but from the first to the last gulp of that delicious beer, it was cold and very refreshing

I'm anything but cheap. I have expensive taste but I don't waste money either. I saw a similar version of this yeti at Walmart the other day and it looked identical and seemed to be of great quality but it was only $9.99. If they both function the same why would I buy the yeti? My self worth isn't determined by the name brand on my stuff.
@ddyoder
@ddyoder 8 лет назад
you speak true- the Ozark (walmart brand) or RTIC brand varieties work just about as well for much cheaper. I have a Yeti 20oz rambler that I love but my brother has an Ozark that works just as well and his was 1/3 the price

My buddy has the Yeti colster and it really works. The only time I see it coming in handy is when you're working in your shop and get busy and forgot you opened a beer 10-15 minutes ago. Otherwise a dang foam koozie is the way to go.

Dude the YETI is a life changer, just get one and you're all set. I've noticed a beer in a basic koozie will still get warmesque after even 5-10min, the YETI solves this problem for good, America chills the beer to catch the game between sips, no more storage chilled drink immediately mid-touchdown

I got 99 problems, but cold beer ain't one! Love my yeti colster, even if it isn't any better than a foam coozie in 15 minutes!

At about 15 minutes you can see that the foam coozie, which you probably have 10 of at home, is keeping that beer about maybe 1-2 degrees warmer than 30 dollar Colster. Is it worth it? Only you can decide. Not for me, cause that beer is gone by now.

There's an Ozark Trail koozie at Walmart that is pretty much identical to the Yeti for around 8 bucks. I have both, they're the same thing!

It would have been nice if you had one of the thin neoprene ones in addition to the older thicker foam coozies. They seem to be most common nowadays.

I have the Yeti Colster... Where you really notice it is when you get down to very little liquid in the can or bottle. It is still cold compared to the other option. It does work very well for normal use.
@hack169
@hack169 8 лет назад
I'd throw the Yeti in the fridge or cooler until ready to use. That way it doesn't transfer heat to the drink while cooling down to the drinks level but that's just me being OCD
@SumDumGy
@SumDumGy 8 лет назад
I don't think that helps you any at all, really. Not in any measurable sense. It's the vacuum between the two stainless layers that prevents temperature transfer so your only gain is that the inner layer of stainless and the copper layer just outside of that are cold ahead of time. Might give you an extra degree of satisfaction, but nothing lost by doing so!

Before you load a can, put a few ice cubes on the colster and give it a shake and you're good to go. Only the inner layer transfers heat

Now try a Yeti v Yeti competition: put the Colster v Rambler (with the lid on). I'll bet the completely encased Rambler outperforms as the Colster has about 20% of the can exposed to the elements. You'll have to make sure that each Yeti is the same temp before starting as this would affect final results.
@SumDumGy
@SumDumGy 8 лет назад
That year would only be comparable of the Rambler was filled to capacity, not with just a single can. The Rambler performance scale dips with less liquid.

using a small thin koozie is still a good idea. your hand would warm up the beer if touching it directly, so a koozie helps diminish that effect.

the only time ive ever had it be useful is when you are day drinking on a river trip and you get a beer out of your mesh river beer bag that is in tow and put it in the yeti koozie to open later. then when you open it, it's still cold.

I went to a casino that gave you $25 to spend gambling or at one of their shops after a while of gambling. I used my money on. Yeti Colster and honestly if it wasnt for me being able to buy it so dirt cheap I wouldn't have bought it. If you drink a lot of beers it becomes annoying having to replace your beer.
