it definitely did. i heavily dislike "dominant hot women" characters so obviously created with the purpose of being attractive for the male straight audience with nothing interesting to set them appart from all the other thousands based on the same archetype. her companion story gave her depth and didnt feel like a silly date. almost made me pull for her, but i must stay strong for jinhsi and her weapon.
Why do you think a character with this personality wouldn't want to be dressed sexy? Perhaps she has inclinations that she does not talk about directly. just let's imagine that this is not an anime game... but life, where people can have different sides of their character... even hidden and contradictory ones... For example, in Honkai Impact there is a character (Moebius) who acts sexually to gain favor with people, even though it does not suit her worldview. It fits an undercover agent like a Yinlin
Honestly Yinlin felt the most real character to me after her companion story. She treats you as an equal, whereas you'd do the same thing in her position. Her rough childhood makes sense why she wouldn't want to trust others, and her motivations guided by her sense of justice with her background of an undercover investigator is a great choice. Yinlin is genuine and doesn't force you into her problems, and when she did that smile in the end, that sealed it, she's a real sweetheart
I like how she's a Neutral Good character. Like, she may let someone get hurt just to succeed in doing her mission, but deep down, she's a good person. I even read somewhere that when Yinlin "betrayed them"(according to their own words), they lost interest in her even if the betrayal was just for show. 😂
I don't really think Betrayal was just for show. Rather, it was to gain trust of the Dollmaker. She didn't bother informing Rover before that the Betrayal wasn't personal towards Rover. That's why it annoyed a lot of people. She probably didn't think it was safe to trust a stranger with her plan so early. It annoyed me too, but well, the last part redeemed it for me. So I don't dislike her. But she certainly isn't for me. (Personality wise, Gameplay wise: Amazing!)
Is her outfit her typical wear? Part of her story is she's "on vacation" from the federation. She ends up using that to keep the other patrollers off of her back. Her wearing a Qipao makes sense for a vacation to a Chinese inspired locale. Hopefully we get a skin for her. I'd love to see her off the job, unless she's always working.
wait...it was pretty clear she wasn't from Jinzhou, at least she doesn't operate there. The fact that she was a patroler is true, but she wasn't recognized as a patroler from Jinzhou. jinzhou is not the only city in huanglong

@@AsterWi Very possible. Danjin was crazy before, that's pretty much gone. Them changing stuff isn't unheard of. Yinlin's first design was more menacing, especially her expression. That to me says they had different plans for her originally. Different but related, Sanhua attacked rover before the story rewrite, that was removed. Chixia was briefly hostile to rover when they met and that was removed too. They're clearly cautious of having any character be hostile in any way to rover, which I don't think is a great idea personally. I'm actually not sure which community compained about these things, but a lot of people clearly weren't happy with their self insert mc not being loved by everyone immediately. Probably the china peeps? Idk. I'm surprised they let Yinlin "betray" and kidnap rover in her companion quest. Though they made sure to reassure the player that rover let it all happen and was never actually in danger at all. Anyways, they seem to be a lot less willing to do certain things character and story wise, than they are willing to do in PGR. Having a sadomasochistic character have their way with rover definitely doesn't seem like something they're willing to do. All of that is very long winded for no reason, I actually do like how Yinlin turned out, but these are just my observations.
I thought she's a typical dominating type of woman and a Vera-like character as a first impression, too. But as I listened to her JP voice and played through her Companion quest, she's not that at all and in fact, despite all her teasing and flirtiness you expect from femme fatale archetype, she is actually pretty kind and gentle that actually look out to other she trusted and possibly empathized. She also have sense of justice and want to uphold it in her own way as a spy. Even in the beginning, she didn't want to hurt Rover and rope them to the organization, but didn't have a choice as she didn't want to cause suspicion to the Dollmaster and betray him yet. Even though she did threaten and betrayed Rover, she already show that she has no intention of harming him and actually want him to trust her and help expose Dollmaster. Also, a nitpick I noticed that in JP, she's more honest and direct about being grateful toward Rover compare to the English script where she tend to say along the line "I suppose I should thank you"
She looks so similar to Vera, especially comparing her to garnet's standard coating, so I expected Kuro to make her similar. Give something for their og fans, while changing a bit to give her more mass appeal. But that's definitely not what happened. I was excited for more Vera, but Yinlin is very much her own thing. After experiencing her companion story, I'm actually glad that's the case. In a lot of ways, they're actually kind of opposites beyond the surface level stuff. When I was talking to my friends about it, I compared them roses with thorns, because that's an obvious comparison to make. Vera is like a rose with tons of thorns you can see, and no matter how you handle it, your hand's gonna come out cut and bloody. Yinlin is more like a rose that looks like it has some thorns, but you come to realize they're not prickly in the least once you reach out. I think that's apt.
I have the same sentiments. I also liked her cause she's like Vera on the surface but I'm glad they decided to make her her own character. It's no wonder they didn't get the same VA to voice her (in JP, not sure about the EN dub)
I still can't get over how amazing her attack strings (heh) are. I have NEVER seen meteor hammer moves in a game like this before. It's legitimately so cool.
Even better, the said character spins VERTICALLY in the fucking air. ALSO, you can move her while she is spinning in the air, gravity defying technology shit.
the red hair definitely threw some people off, especially PGR players who expected Vera 2.0. me? i'm happy that she's Yinlin and not somebody else. her companion story also made me love her a little bit more. the soft vocal fry on her speaking voice also adds a whole dimension to her. it adds a touch of character that no accent, appearance, manner of speaking, or behavior can. and the least that i expected the most, and i highly appreciate, is that her PV and ascension mats were actually tied to her companion story. usually a PV is just a character showcase. but nope, Kuro decided to spoil us without us realizing, and it was perfect! PS. in the end, Yinlin was like "you're lonely, i'm lonely. it's nice to know i'm not the only one". and i was like girl both of us don't have to be lonely you know. 😂
I like that she tries to relate to Rover rather than use Rover and praise him for his uniqueness. While she does kind of use him/her, she tells you many times you don't have to do said thing. Which made me like her. Because she's not just saying go help us or join us like everyone else. She genuinely wants you to think about joining her and shows appreciation for it. Which was so awesome and made me love her. Not that's she bad looking either 😝 So far besides Camellya and Scar, she's my favorite 😤❤️
@@whatamess8894 yeah, but we know she entirely in the mindset Rover will/must help due to the prophecy. It's more so a illusion of choice. She fully believes in the prophecy. So in her mind Rover would always choose to help. It's not really a choice if someone knows your next move. However, I'm imagining later in the story we will be making a choice that maybe doesn't follow her plan.

@@whatamess8894 sure she has doubt but it's not enough to make her waiver either. Thus, why I said in the future Rover will probably make a choice not in the prophecy. Which will be the turning point for her, probably. I could be completely wrong but that's my thoughts. 😁
Yinlin is everything I want in a woman minus the multiple identities. Yeah, Yinlin is very misunderstood at first glance. But her character I've find myself liking more and more.
The difference between her seem by the fans/marketing and the story was a real shock when i did her story… if i hadn’t heard the « marketing » meme imaginary side of her, i would have think she’s just a totally normal character honestly
Id like to see a premium skin where she changes disguises, standard being the agent for example and as skill, ult, intro outro cast showing different disguises.
I expected a "Dommy Mommy" when doing her character quest, but boy was I in a surprise; a good one. I was in awe with how the quest ended. Really amazed how she showed her thanks to the Rover
I thought i was the only one who found her ult animation painful (now i literally close my eyes for a bit when that part comes out), but when I ask any of my friends what they thought abt the ult animation they js said "nah i'd get hard"

I must admit, seeing her resonance liberation for the first time. Without any context, I thought she would be a straight out villain. But after much research and playing her companion quest, she's more of an antihero. Although I was hoping her quest would be longer and we get to do more undercover spy stuff. Still, she grows on me. And I really love having her on my team.
Well voice actor is Ami Koshimizu and i been hearing her voice as Holo in the remake for weeks now. You also know her as Beidou in genshin and she also voiced blade Perun in Xenoblade ch. 2 + Agnes Oblige from BD and Ryuko Matoi from Killa la Kill. @@BullminatorI see, that's why. I didn't know her name (and never bothered to look) but I can recognise her voice most of the time like I can recognise Sawashiro Miyuki or Aoi Yuuki. Guess I go new favourite.
one thing I like from the character side is how like you pointed out, she looks like a femme fatale but is actually a kind woman underneath, sort of a twist to the trope. in terms of gameplay, I like it on how she basically does everything except healing. She can be your On Field DPS, Off Field DPS, Support and Buffer. Any role you put her in, Yinlin will excel in them.
At first, I was interested in Yinlin because of her resemblance to Vera. I liked her interlude in PGR. However, as I saw Yinlin’s ultimate, I thought she was a letdown, just a seductive character and nothing more. But the story did her some justice, and yes, her English voice is amazing. So now I have changed my opinion of her.
We would be lying if we said that she doesn't have that seductive dominating side to her. But that's not her main personality. Her main personality is actually of a Lonely girl, who fights alone for Justice. She usually handles undercover dirty works. And her story was majorly tied to puppets and strings them. We realise that we acted as her Puppet in accomplishing her goal. But we also realise later that she also is used to being a puppet because of the Dollmaker. Through out the story she learns to finally break the strings and be free but Lonely. While Rover promotes from being her puppet to an ally, or more over, a true friend. Which she never felt like she had before. That said, she is kind, but not that observant of other's situations. She usually only cares for the people she likes or knows, or people who end up serving a purpose for her. It would be weird if she was like Jinhsi, who is well minded about other's situations. So it suits her personality. And when she gets a little closer to someone, she becomes a bit more playful, free and teasing. Overall, great character with good depth. Not really my type though. But I appreciate a deep character.
my favorite thing about her is how she came home on my first 10 pull while also giving me her weapon in the immediate next 10 pull then 2 days later gave me 2 of her in the same 10 pull. i was in the middle of class and i almost screamed when i got the double
You really down bad for her. I can fully understand your reasoning. There is more than fanservice too Yinlin and the rest of Kuro Games chars. Personality goes a long way and I like the fact that this playful yet professional type chars is nice. I remember back then playing PGR thinking Rosetta was a villian but turned out to be the my most favourite character due her personality and hopeful attitude in the PGR world.
I also really like her voice. Like someone might say it's sultry. But it doesn't sound like she's trying to sex me up. She sounds like she is, she's had a hard life and she's been doing Yelan things behind the scenes. She really is red electro yelan.
Ami Koshimzu voices her in Japanese. (Holo from Spice & Wolf, Demon Lord from Mayou, Charlotte Yaeger from Strike Witches) and she does a great job as well
I got Yinlin while pulling for Taoqi (yeah, I know, I just like parry characters) and I was not very thrilled. I'm not a fan of extreme fanservice characters and even less so of the 'dommy mommy' aesthetic. Yet, after completing her story, I truly felt for Yinlin. Really glad you made this video for those who skipped through or didn't pay attention, because Yinlin (due to her story) easily became one of my favorites in the game (behind Chixia).
She also met my expectations as far as combat and appearance. However her story could have used some more fleshing as it felt a bit rushed and was confusing to start. I'm hoping in the future yinlin gets more spotlight to express what she evolves into after meeting rover.
I love how Instead of trying to prove she's a good person, she uses her cover to stay in the shadows where she can do good for others completely unchecked by Jinshi and the patrollers, and unnoticed by people like scar. She tried to "use" rover but when she found out rover was as interested in straight up doing good as she was, she quickly dropped the act. I want to say the "sexy" approach is not as good as the "badass" approach but also, she's gorgeous and STILL badass so i simply cannot complain 😵💫My favorite part about her in-game is that she's like a better and more striaght-forward encore, who i would use a lot more if they were as good and seamless as yinlin lol So happy i got verdant summit, jiyan AND yinlin bc of all the compensations, love u kuro 💜

The companion story is like the Star wars prequel. You see the heart, but there is terrible execution. I hate the delivery, but the heart of the story, is beautiful.

I just finished Yinlin's companion story last night and I really think she is so cool and I agree that the game would make you care more for her. It was a surprise for me (in a good way) about what is really her true personality and how she is being genuine only to Rover. I am happy that they didn't made her similar to Vera's personality tho she had that Vera vibes from the start. I want more of her story cause I can relate to her personal past story and how the game showed her adaptability as life goes on. I also agree that Kuro made all the women characters strong. Let's go girl power! Btw, I always love your content vids especially when sharing your own personal thoughts on Kuro games :)
5:07 Yes it’s fanservice, yes it’s hot, and *YES* it’s still a wayyy better animation for an ult than the original. Her kicking the doll is cool and all, but I think it fits better in her regular combat animations which is where it ended up. The current ult is just kinda iconic now it’s her signature pose from the trailer.
Just like Vera, they're both deceptively human. Yes they're naturally scheming and calculated, coming off as cold, but deep down that strong independent badassery lies a very kind person.

Mixing sexy with cool and cold blooded with kindness is really unique as far as gacha personalites go. I am honest here...saying I dont care about her more sexy side at all would be a lie. Of course I do appreciate a bit of fanservice. BUT it gets bad real fast if its everything a character has to offer. Yinlin does this while being just awesome even beyond that. I also like her animations and playstile. I love sup DPS.
Fun fact: When Yinlin shows her various disguised, in her disguise as a miner, we can see that her abs are not refined, showing that even though she may change her persona and appearance, it’s still her
She's voiced by Ami Koshimizu for JP. If you're not familiar, her most notable rolls have been Holo from Spice and Wolf, as well as Ryuko from Kill la Kill. She pulls way more on how she sounds voicing Holo, which made me do a 180 on wanting her. Originally planned to skip, but now have her with her sig 😅

i started playing wuwa for jiyan because i thought he looked cool. before the game launched i watched the gameplay of the existing characters and as soon as i saw yinlin i fell in love with her. she is pretty yet so strong and i love to play her in a team with calcharo or jenhsi
I love the huskiness in her voice. As much as I love seductive and domineering mommy characters and a voice to match, the huskiness just exudes maturity. So Yinlin's current voice just hits different, and it really does make her standout from others.
As a non-native English speaker I have a different thought about Yinlin voice, since I've been watching animes with Japanese voices for the past 20 years, for me Yinlin English VA doesn't fit at all. Probably when they design the character, the first priority is to find a JP VA, using Japanese Stars like Toshiyuki Morikawa that voices Seppiroth from Final Fantasy and basically replay his role as Calcharo. Perhaps native English speakers have a different impression about this mater. And this is not a criticism, it's just a perception from a foreigner. And btw, I also love Yinlin, but got a Verina instead of her 😪
