They made 2 attemps at making shows in America. The first time (2015), they gave up because they knew the end product would be shit before they started filming. They scrubbed that pilot from the website and don't want it circulated. The second time, they were making an international version of Stories From Norway with stories from around the world. They were 2 years into making it and had over 40 songs written but then the network scrapped the show. They're unable to talk abt the show or release any of the music because the network owns all of it.

You should react to the series Alt for Norge (Everything for Norway), where 10-12 Norwegian-Americans are invited to Norway to learn about Norwegian culture, and win a meeting with their Norwegian relatives. In season 2, episode 5, you get an insight into the colorful language in Northern Norway (that is, swearing). Season 1-4 are available with English subtitles.

Norwegians are very fluent in English but due to the law of jante (you shall not think that you are better than others) we all have collectively agreed our English is bad 😂

Our accent is generally thought of as not very pleasant to the ears as well, so I think many think Norwegian accsent=not great English (Norwegian standards)

I have read about the reason why Ylvis isn't in the US. Not everyone dreams of the United States at the expense of their own artistic freedom. Ylvis was invited to USA after the Fox song went to the top in Europe and North America. They were very popular and appeared on many talk shows as well. They were also offered contact. But Ylvis did not like that their work was being commercialized and adapted to the American market, and that they were going to lose control over some of their work. They believed that all this meant that they would lose the joy of doing what they do, and in addition lose their freedom. Ylvisbrødre has integrity, likes freedom to express themselves and have artistic freedom of expression. In the US, much of their work would be censored as americans are very sensitive to many things, except guns and violence. Ylvis are not the only ones. A-Ha were also very popular in the USA, but after a while they didn't like the American values in the music industry. They thrived in London and South America and especially Brazil because of different types of values than in the USA. Aurora has also been popular in the USA and has appeared on the Oscars and many talk shows. When she was asked questions by American journalists, her face showed that she was clearly bored and didn't like stupid questions. There are several Norwegian artists who do well in the USA, but they prefer to live in London than in the USA.

I'm swedish however i would say norwegians and swedes have about the same english skills. For me and I would say the majority of people under the age of fifty, would not have a problem understanding what is said. We are completely fluid in understanding this type of english content. Accents that could be a problem is possibly Scottish or Irish😂

Norwegian and older than 50. I have no problem understanding this. Or reading Charles Dickens or James Joyce (just as examples). I think all of scandinavia understands most of it (even my parents are quiet fluid). We sound a bit strange and foreign, of course, but by having a lot of english/american on tv, with subtitles - not overdubs, helps a lot. In my family we also like to have english subtitles instead of norwegian. To get the real gist of it, not just the norwegian translation. That helps. My guess is that most norwegian 80 years or younger can understand most of this.. But it's very easy to point out who is Swedish and who is Danish when we speak. At least for norwegians. I guess that goes for our fellows scandinavians as well... But we are working on it! One day...

Yes 🥰 We understand absolutely everything 😊 Most Norwegians are bilingual. Personally, I also speak with an American accent. I prefer to speak American English instead of British English..... ❤ (I'm Norwegian) 🇳🇴

I thought this part of the show was so cool when I first watched it(and still think so), the song is so catchy too lol Also, I don't think Norwegian humor goes super well with American humor. British humor I think is closer to Norwegian since America tends to be a bit literal. This is just a generalization ofc, but It's why Taskmaster('Kongen Befaler' in Norwegian) did pretty well in Norway and was awful in America.

Ah, yes! It was kind of perfect by justsomeguy to just drop that beautiful piece of art with no explanation 😂 To answer some of your questions: Most norwegian under the age of 60 speaks English somewhat fluent. We got so much English and American tv shows and music. When it comes to cursing, it depends on what part of norway one come from. Down south is called "bibel beltet", and it's the extra religious part of norway. And the rest of us make fun of them for not cursing 😅 The further north you get, the more cursing you get. And US ain't got nothing on our level of cursing! I bet we got 20 words for every American curseword 🙈😅 Back to Ylvis. They did actually go to america after the fox, but people over there wanted a saying in everything they did. And they don't accept that, so they left. It's a reason why they got their own production company. They need to be in charge. And I totally get that! They have also said that they prefer to be on top in norway, then mediocre anywhere else. Oh, and I think you would really enjoy watching their mini series "swahiliwood". It's kind of the same concept as "big in kirgisistan", but they go to Africa to be actors in swahiliwood 😁👌

Yeah, you can't really overestimate the amount of swearing is tied to the northerners' language 😂

Most Norwegians are fairly good in English. As for swearing some people from northern Norway brings it to the next level. It becomes almost like an art form. There is a recording that was made probably 30 years ago of a man that tries to repair a washing machine. His son knew what was coming so he put a tape recorder in the room and recorded the whole seance. The repair was not going as planned and for more than five minutes this guy was talking to him self and swearing nonstop hardly repeating one word. Those that swear in English don’t seem to have the same vocabulary and repeat the f word to often. Amateurs.😂😂😂

2:30 So yeas, 99% of Norwegians are 90% fluent, and a ton of Norwegians are more or less 100% fluent in English. So no Norwegian should have any trouble understanding this.
