reddit loves Jon Favreau now, I guess. By the way, r/moviescirclejerk is awful. / ymshighlights / adumplaze The Triggering of Shia: • The Triggering of Shia...
Dave Filoni did most of the work and knows more about SW than him, that’s for sure. With that said, Mandalorian is no masterpiece and it isn’t necessarily boring like Adum says, but it’s fun enough to disconnect your brain for like 30-40 minutes, it’s a decent and competent show that doesn’t look like garbage.
@@al112v4 Very true. It's only _good_ in comparison to the sequel trilogy... Which, while it's visually beautiful, was clearly written by people who have never matured past twelve. They don't know what lore is or the importance of it, and they clearly don't care. ... and somehow Disney kept giving them money...
@@ashkebora7262 The whole franchise was made by a guy who wanted to cater a younger audience so the '12 year old' there makes sense, even though adults happen to connect with the characters which is fine. With that said, I enjoyed some of the new movies over the pretentious crap of the Prequels, dudebros are so hard over Jon and Filoni mainly because they didn’t like it that another person that isn’t George Lucas (he clearly loved more the art than the money) 'ruined' their toy once again, I’m not surprised anymore and I just focus on what I like and don’t like peacefully acting like a mature person instead of harassing actors, directors and fans like a bunch of maniacs all over social media.
The reddit commenter at 8:37 mentioning that Jon Favreau “went through the metoo movement unscathed” was really strange. Should we really act like not being accused of sexual harassment/assault is some kind of accomplishment?
"Why didn't they consult the original directors?" Because they're animators. And according to Hollywood, if you're an animator you are easily disposable!
Even when they do they usually just do it for PR so that people will be like "omg the original people are on it" and then proceed to disregard all of their advice.
@@crunchii891 sort of? I don't really know the details but apparently they had "creative differences". This however was definitely the case with Shyamalanamanamanans version, they were a part of it but left halfway through when they realized where it was going (although imo trying to condense an entire season into 1 movie is bound to fail anyway but whatever).
At this point I just want a 26 hour review, it has to be longer than both the 13rw commentary tracks together to fit all the stuff wrong with the movie
At first I thought he said that bc he basically has every shot of Lion King memorized by now, but then I realized he meant bc if there was a shot focused on Mufasa’s ass he would preserve it for his wank bank... tbh it could go either way but the 2nd one’s prolly more likely lol
Had to come back to say this but at 18:45 in the animated version Simba has his ears pinned back. This is a REAL THING that lions/lion cubs do to demonstrate fear and discomfort. The fact that apparently the people working on the 2019 version did not know this really shows how little they gave a shit. Really hammers home the point you made about body language not even being considered in this film.
What blows my mind every time I think of this movie is, maybe the new animators don't know a lot about lions, but did none of them ever have a friggin' cat? Or seen one? 'Cuz you can apply most cat mannerisms to a lion model and it would look accurate. They even sit in boxes in captivity.
1:46 "They not only stripped the film of facial expressions, they also stripped it of body language." _THANK YOU!_ The first time I watched this film, I noticed this almost immediately. I couldn't believe that these people were going for photo-realism, but couldn't be bothered to commit to _realistic_ body movement. Just take the ears for example. The animators who worked on the original had studied lions and it showed; when any lion snarled, their ears would be pulled back. When they were happy/relaxed, their ears would perk up, or when Simba displayed submission (18:00), his ears would fold down, ya know, like a cat! In the remake, there's *none* of this! (26:28) As a result, every character seems expressionless, but body language is very much a form of expression! FFS.
I can't lie when Adam showed off the reddit posts praising Jon Favreau I kinda cringed at the images and wording. They radiate so much normie energy it's hard to take it humorously. But on the bright side it reminded me why I don't go to reddit at all.
It's normie stuff because it's a 'default' subreddit (the ones always in r/all and recommended when you first sign on). When I'm on Reddit I only see posts from specific communities, like my hobbies or shitposting/circlejerks. I don't go on r/all or any subreddits that are based around politics or over 2 million subscribers. You can easily avoid people like this even on Reddit. Unfortunately masturbatory mods are completely unavoidable.
Elf is a fun, enjoyable movie. Iron Man is a fun, enjoyable movie. The Mandalorian is a fun, enjoyable show. Also, it's written and mostly directed by other people. Jon isn't terrible, but he's not a director who stands out in any way.
saying jon favreau gets little to no media attention is the equivalent of saying "oh yeah, i listen to pretty weird kinda outsider music... like you ever heard of radiohead? or arctic monkeys? dude they are soooo underrated... pretty crazy how like nobody knows about them"
Seriously though. An amazing takedown of misinformation that has persisted for way too long. Unironically, he's made a better movie out of that topic than many movies in existence out there.
I can't believe Jon Favreau has a fan following now... Even before all this Lion King stuff, I thought the internet consensus on him was that he makes decent-to-mediocre films, whose saving grace is they're so generic that general audiences gobble em up. But I guess Baby Yoda is all it takes to turn opinions these days.
Left reddit last year, and never looked back. And whenever I see people like YMS delve back into it, it makes me happy I'm gone. Everything is a meme, for better or for worse. The hive mind just seems to randomly select things to love and hate, and 90% of the time dissenting opinions are deemed unacceptable.
I actually have always like his movies. Made is hilarious, Cowboys and Aliens is alot of fun.Iron Man speaks for itself. Chef is good. Even Jungle Book isnt that bad. And The Mandolorian has been a joy to watch.
Dave Filoni did most of the work, not him lol, besides the Mandalorian show is fine and decently executed, and way more competent than TLK remake for sure. Main reason why dudebros all the sudden like him so much it’s because their precious childish franchise got screwed ‘so bad' they forgot that George did it first.
Michael Strong oh yeah the remade version is hot garbage especially since Be Prepared is the best song in the movie (I feel like that’s fair to say tbh)
2022 release. Adum will have outsourced the rest to someone else, while he himself is in therapy from the stress and other personal strain he suffered while attempting to finish this monstrosity.
@MachuNoel also an album release. I like alot of Adum's side work so I don't feel deprived. It is funny how long it's been, but I also appreciate that Adum cares about the quality of his videos and making sure his opinions are clear and well thought out/represented. It's easy to see how much he loves the original on a critical and personal level.
Dude so true I argued about lion king being something he can do 'shitty' and I got back how big it's box office was so that means Jon comes out on top... Like what a weak lacklustre argument.
@@stevenmontana4783 Yeah. Iron man was a success because it was a marvel superhero movie. I've never even heard of the elf one. Mandalorian owes its success to the star wars franchise and the lion king to its predecessor. Dude did nothing extraordinary in any of them.
Best thumbnail. Really sums up the mood for a Lion King Highlights vid XD Also: It is really weird to see the great lengths they went to to hide genital's "to the point they are altering the tail size" yet in the stampede they were just like "Here ya go Everybody! Simba's big fat black puckered asshole!"
When Mufasa barks "Simba!" before scolding him, I think the easiest way animate that scene would have Simba jump with a start upon hearing his name. Anyone who's owned a cat has most likely seen their cat get scared while asleep or something. When they hop straight up, tail fluffed out and ears slicked back. You don't need to see their face to know how they're feeling in that moment. Even if you don't want facial expressions, there are obvious ways to communicate such basic emotions with animals. Especially with felines due to how expressive their bodies can be.
Sorry, but copying someone elses superior work and making it somehow worse and longer should disqualify someone to being, as they said, an "absolute unit" or "next level."
that next level sub is full of Chinese propaganda too. There's like a whole genre of state produced videos where master craftsmen make things as Chinese music plays in the background.
Synecdoche series will be finished before Lion King review. Adum is going to sit down and watch all of Lion Guard and the Timon & Pumbaa cartoon just to be sure.
Well definitely, like the OT it's a group effort for sure, it went to lucas' head but he didn't make the OT great, new hope was saved in the edit and he didn't make empire or jedi (but did add the ewoks) But Favreau and filoni contribute a lot to it It's more like, Favreau didn't give a fuck about lion king He shit it out for the studio and made a movie for kids As soon as it wrapped, he probably moved on and didn't think about it ever again haha I agree with adams points but I don't really care that the lion king remake is shitty And I don't think it necessarily detracts from his other projects
Cowboys and aliens.. That's an Alex Kurtzman script, one of the shittiest writers out there, so we can't really blame that on Favreau haha But he's definitely made bad ones, like zathura
I hate how people think Jon was the one who started the MCU. Yeah, he directed the franchise's very first film, but he didn't come up with the "shared universe" idea.
@@michaelstrong5383 yeah if that was the case we would’ve seen his name on more projects he was just a director for Iron man 1 and 2 and after that all he was was a cast member/occasional consultant. The MCU 100% would’ve existed without him. Honestly RDJ is more responsible for the MCU than Favreau is
that and the fanservice are the only reasons people are praising the show that much. the writing is almost as bad as the sequels but hey, it doesn't shit on the old characters and makes them bad-asses so people turn a blind eye to it.
@@domingosjunior6805 no it’s not, episode 3 and 6 aren’t great but the are way better than Mandalorian. I’d say it’s about as good as episode 1 and 2. It’s better than the sequels but that’s not saying much. I think you’re vastly overestimating it’s quality.
Even as someone that genuinely likes a lot of faverau's films, even before he was getting all this praise with the mandalorian, it doesn't change the fact that i still don't understand how he made a shit film like this remake.
@@alfredokusuma9511 I didn't even know Jon directed that movie, my father loves western movies, and he really enjoyed it, but he doesn't like sci fi tho...
I am ready to take the hate but I am 6 episodes into the Mandalorian and it has a more cliché formulaic baby-ish storyline than Ducktails 2017. It is so...simplified and dumbed down and SLOW. My God. Literally EVERYTHING I thought would happen happened with 0 twists or thrill. There is even a line when they are about to get this assassin where (instead of just killing the assassin) they say "NOT SOOO FAAAAAAAST!) Making the whole sneaking part obsolete. And this is not even TOUCHING on the "We dug a tiny 6 by 6 foot hole in the ground for a robot to somehow trip in AND IT DID fiasco..Props to the Prop team "even though they are sparingly used it seems" but ya...so far not impressed.
the writing for the show is garbage and the only reason people praise it so much is because it's not quite as bad as the sequels and the fanservice(i am including baby yoda in the fanservice category)
@@666FallenShadow YES! I agree! It was like pulling teeth every 2 min on average. And last night I could not sleep and found out what "mammalorians" are and now I am scarred for life! Every SINGLE EPISODE is "Mando is stupid and does a side task with 0 resistance. Side quester turns on him/something happens that does not matter to the actual plot, and someone tries to steal the stupid baby while the baby does NOTHING to help and causes conflict." And all this with plot holes so big the universe could fall inside and still have room for Jon Favreau! This is like every single episode without fail. Rinse and repeat ad nauseum forevermore. ugh...just ugh.
I've never interacted with a Favreau stan who wasn't doing it simply because they were born in the 80s and like the Mandalorian. It's like a whole personality for them, it's REALLY weird.
I'd say Favreau is the weakest element about The Mandalorian, all he contributes is nostalgia bait wanking off the original trilogy and "boy playing with action figures" fight scenes that would make George Lucas blush. The show is at its best when he's not involved in it, it's allowed to breathe and have a style, and I hope he stays away more.
okay I'm sure Adam's been asked this hundreds of times, and for that reason I've been restraining myself and hoping it comes up in one of these highlight videos, but now I finally have to ask: What the FUCK does he do with his mouse every few moments so god damn often??????? Please answer me YMS Highlights, you're the only person that will likely see this comment.
Thinking about the lack of body language thing, animals mostly communicate through body language whether it be towards each other, other animals, or to humans if they live in a human based environment. Cats and their bigger cousins, have tons of body expressions you can see from their ears to their tail to even their eyes. So the lack of body language and expression makes no sense!!
I mean I like a lot of Jon's movies and Mando, but he ain't like in my top 10 directors. And I have NO CLUE why Reddit is stanning him. I don't hate him but he isn't PERFECT
Not to mention people act as if it was passion project he wanted to make (which on a fairly note, was the case with Iron Man) instead of just a blockbuster studio movie he was hired to direct.
@@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747 I was gonna say, saying Jon "decides to make" a superhero movie or Star Wars show or Christmas movie is bending the truth a little bit.
Some of the reddit replies to the people pointing out tlk 2019 being a bad movie have the same “but it sold alot sooo..” because we all know, best selling = good
As an MCU junkie, I can tell you right off the bat that Favreau does not deserve credit for the MCU being so good (minus Captain Marvel, Incredible Hulk, Thor: The Dark World, etc.). That honor goes to Kevin Feige.
As bad as Lion King sucked, I'm not gonna knock people for praising Jon Favreau after The Mandalorian. The fact that it managed to reinvigorate Star Wars after TLJ and TROS was an utter miracle.
When the video directly cut from "The Triggering of Shia" to Adam saying "What a stupid idea!", I thought he was referring to that particular clip, not TLK 2019 lmao.
Adum's accounts, all of them even those completely unrelated to his current content, gets purged from youtube completely and a guy dressed as Mickey the Mouse and a squad of black clad men barge into Adum's house and spirits him away.
The scene with Mufasa and simba talking about the stars makes me bawl like a bitch everytime. The music, the love between father and son, the brilliant transistion from serious to playful and the lifelessons Mufasa is teaching his son here is so heartbreakingly beautiful. It's so perfectly mirrored later when simba talks to his father in the clouds. The longing and grief. God. I used to hide under the coffee table when we watched the lion king when I was a kid. The emotions that movie made me feel were too private for me to share with my parents and siblings.
loving these highlights i cant wait to see the finished project.. but patience is a virtue and we know Adum is going to do a awesome job esp as its something he loves. he will make it 10/10 ...
I'm not surprised to see a reddit post act like Lion King: Documentary Edition making money somehow is a response to the moving being bad. That's how quality works. McDonald's is some of the best food ever made because it makes tons of money guys. Lion King: DE made money because the original was good. The original's legacy carried the entire thing. Same with every Disney remake that made money. That's why Dumbo flopped, nobody talks about the original Dumbo, other than to call it racist. People don't even talk about the remake because nobody really cares about Dumbo to the same level as things like Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid... I don't get why people still use this "well it made money" argument. Especially without adjusting for inflation, the original still made more when adjusting for inflation. Roughly $200 million more. But Hollywood can't break as many records if you adjusted for inflation... and apparently people enjoy falsehoods, and half truths.
I play a game called WolfQuest and it is basically a game that simulates wolf behavior, anatomy and how wolves survive accurately. You have a variety of emotes you can choose from to communicate with other wolves. it’s funny how this game that portrays wolf ecology as accurately as possible has more expression in facial and body language then the Lion King 2019.
Elf was mediocre verging on being straight bad. I remember watching it in school on two separate occasions, didn’t laugh once. It was pretty boring and could hardly keep my attention. Keep in mind I’ve been known to be entertained by dumb comedies like The Do-over.
I personally love the Mandalorian but that's because Star Wars has a special place in my heart, but it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth to have Jon Favreau as the director.
I’m so late but the person who commented that Jon is “silently releasing bangers with little to no media attention” is PSYCHOTIC 😂😂 all he makes is big budget, hyped corporate schlock
Check out the interview with Werner Herzog (I think it was Variety) before the first season of The Mandalorian came out. The interviewer asks Herzog if he felt any pressure working with such a successful director like Jon Favreau and Herzog just bluntly says "I haven't seen any of his films". Like, yeah, I'm sure the guy who travels to some of the most inhospitable places on earth to make films felt intimidated working with the guy who made Elf.
I mean you have to understand the people on Reddit a little. Jon Favreau has made the only (non animated) half way decent (imo not even that great) Star wars in decades. A franchise these people thought was dead. So they think he's Jesus now. Of course doesn't mean that the lion king 2019 isn't shit.
Even as someone who felt choked at the hallway scene in Mandalorian, everything preceding it was just okay. Glad my childhood franchise is looking up, but overrall the standard for Star Wars is still 6/10
I would actually like to see Adam review Manalorian, I feel like there are way to many people ignoring the faults with the show just because it’s Original Trilogy, has Luke and Boba in it. I’d just liked to see a more fair review.
14:39 Honestly I gotta go with Jon. Don't forget he starred in Rocky Marciano and probably still knows how to fight even if he's doubled in weight since then.
Maybe I'm wrong, but the various star wars subreddits I frequent seem to praise David Filoni far more than Jon Favreau when talking about the Mandolorian.
